Notes From a Monday
Pea Daddy and I had our first “date” in over a month tonight. We didn’t go out. We stayed home and ate our dinner of homemade veggie burgers in front of 60 Minutes. Because there is nothing sexier than Andy Rooney along side a healthy serving of beans. We couldn’t decide if we wanted to share a Werther’s or a bowl of prunes for dessert. I told him Pea Daddy he could choose if he’d volunteer to be the one to clap off the TV when... Read More
Breakfast Advent-ures
Ahh, the advent calendar. The calendar o’ chocolate is the main reason why the girls jump out of bed in the morning. I’d also put money on it being the reason why we found Lulu downstairs in the middle of the night, climbing to reach the mantle. Technically, opening it wouldn’t have been cheating, but at 3 a.m. I wasn’t in the mood to deal with technicalities or Lulu. She asks every morning, without fail, to open each and every door. “But... Recipeas Worth Repeating: Anytime Cookies
One of the chief complaints Pea Daddy has about being married to me, aside from the constant broccoli and hairspray fumes, is that since I am always creating new recipes, I rarely revisit the old ones. And if Pea Daddy has proven anything by his closet, it’s that he’s loyal to his favorites. If I’ve proven anything by my ever-changing hairstyles and hair colors, it’s that I’m not loyal to mine. Except for hairspray. I’ll never leave... Read More
A Break in the Baking
Man cannot live on Christmas cookies alone. No offense, Santa. We’ve certainly been trying to live on cookies around here. Dinner has pretty much just been something just to get through to get to dessert. I have absolutely no business having so many treats in my fridge right now: Dough balls of every flavor. Pumpkin bread pudding. Gingerbread cookie dough waiting to have life breathed into it. And three hidden Tupperware containers full... Read More
Having a Ball
I’m not going to beat around the bush: today was not the greatest. Gigi’s still sick. I’ve lost my garage door opener and can’t leave the house anyway. It rained so hard last night, it woke me up and made somebody wet their bed. And then it rained all day too. We read book after book. We did crafts and puzzles. I hate puzzles. We played dress up. We cleaned out the Tupperware drawer. I hate Tupperware. I got rid of every bottom... Read More
Just Your Typical Morning
No one could ever say our breakfasts are boring. I usually head out for a run or to lift weights pretty early, but I like to make sure the fort is held down before I leave. Today that included breakfast appetizers. There’s always time for a quick warm up with the old Cheerios toss. It may be a choking hazard. It may entail eating dropped cereal off the floor. It may not be teaching “good manners.” But it sure is fun. After... Read More
Old, New, Borrowed, Blue
I truly can’t remember if on my wedding day I had “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue…” This post has a bit of everything to make up for it. It also is a good opportunity to congratulate both Janetha and Kalin on their nuptials this past weekend. Love you, girls! I’m not exactly traditional, so I’m going to start with the borrowed. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,... Read More
Lots of Estrogen Up in Here
Am I talking about my soy intake or my company for the day? Guess you’ll have to read on to see. I woke up this morning and spent time with this lovely lady and her six-pack. The Body for Life weight workout can be found here. While it’s a great workout for use at the gym, I’m currently shying away from doing it at home because it is based on increasing/decreasing your weight with each set. I only have your basic dumbbells with... Read More
Joining the Sisterhood
As I’ve mentioned before, I wasn’t in a sorority in college. I just found I was so busy with school, playing basketball and trying to change my frat boy boyfriend that I never committed to becoming a sister. Yet I envied their rituals, their friendships, their sense of being a part of something bigger than themselves and the fact that at least one day a week they didn’t have to worry about what they wore, threw on a Hanes sweatshirt... Hitting P-Town
Or Pea-Town. Or Pee-Town…as the case may be. We took the girls to Portland today to stimulate the economy. Shopping with kids is a necessary evil. If I didn’t just suck up the fact that 85% of our time in the store would be spent pulling Lulu out from underneath her clothes-rounder sweat lodge or explaining to Gigi that yes, pink sequined mini dresses are pretty but not everyday mommywear, well, I’d still be wearing maternity... Helping Hands
You know how some people say, “I could use another set of hands”? Not me. In fact, sometimes I wish I had two less sets of hands. I have all the helping hands I need. This morning Slim Shady helped me hide my stash…of empty nut butter jars. I came in from my workout and found two near empty jars of peanut butter that I’d been hiding in the back of the cupboard set out on the counter to go in the recycling. Whoever did... Read More
The Bright Side
When life hands you lemons… make Lemon Rosemary Roasted Chickpeas! Nothing about the last 24 hours really went as expected. Still, no one wants to hear me whine, so I’m simply going to relate them to you in the most annoyingly positive way possible! I didn’t even need my alarm to wake up Friday morning and was even able to pay a visit to my general practitioner to test out my new health insurance! I was happy to let McDreamy... Read More
Back Asswards
Today’s been like Anne Heche’s relationship history: completely bizarre and to be blamed on daddy issues. In our case, Pea Daddy had an arbitration early this morning, followed by a meeting tonight (or so he says…), so our whole day was kind of thrown off. Every morning my workout time is from 6:30 to 8 a.m. each morning, but since Pea Daddy had to leave early, I had to get up a half hour earlier than usual. That half hour... Read More
The Fast and the…Mildly Disappointed
Wow! Thank you guys so much for all the feedback on the Dressgavagantza. It was surprising to me how much of you liked the dress that Gigi and my mom liked best (the purple Diane Von Furstenberg), and how many of you liked the dress Pea Daddy liked best (the orange Herve, shocking!). What was most surprising to me of all though, was how many of you said things along the lines of, “Please don’t choose the ____ dress!!!” I can... Read More
Fear and Loafing
Since last we talked, we’ve been having an open ended discussion about “fear” in our house. This was spawned by Pea Daddy’s announcement that we were going to find out what color our car truly was underneath the dirt, grime and “Wash Me”s by going through the “Cutie the Elephant” car wash. How could you be afraid of Cutie, the Blue Elephant? I guess if Tyra can be afraid of dolphins, Gigi’s... Read More
