Gnosis Chocolate Giveaway
My heart still hurts from Friday’s tragedy, as I’m sure yours does too. It just doesn’t feel natural for me to post like nothing happened. Because I haven’t stopped thinking about it. And frankly, I just don’t want to.
I want that constant ache. Every time that I instinctually want to snap at my child for fighting with her sister or drinking the bath water or forgetting her lunchbox. Every time I’m working with a “difficult” child in their class. Every time my children get to open their eyes in the morning and live.
As a friend said, “I want to keep pushing on that bruise in a way I ensure it never stops aching.”
Because when we feel that ache for someone else, we can only respond with love. We can only fight to make our own instinctual reaction to those in our lives be grace. We can only feel gratitude for our many, many gifts.
On that note, I have a few giveaways lined up in the coming weeks to show my gratitude for you.
So to start, here’s a little gift from Gnosis Chocolate and me.

This is some truly really decadent, super flavorful, holiday themed chocolate (which just happens to be raw and dairy free).
I’m giving away an Immunity bar, a 3-piece pack of CinnaPecan truffles, and the seasonal SugarPlum GingerBread bar.
I’ll announce the winner in my next post.
To enter, leave a comment telling me something that made you smile today.
For me, it was making “Reindeer Food” with Lulu’s kindergarten class. One little girl sitting next to me with huge dimples was joyfully dumping in glitter and oats and started shaking up her bag, forgetting to first seal the bag. Oats, along with gold, blue, silver, green and red glitter flew everywhere, covering us both from head to toe. I’m still totally sparkly. And totally smiling.
In addition, if you shop for any Gnosis chocolate, use the discount code PEAS&THANKYOU-10 for 10% off.
And thank you.
I am grateful for you.

The thing that made me smile today was the Christmas/star wars themed art work my son presented me with such pride.

I’m still finding myself in a teary puddle about three times a day. My 4 year old pranced around the house in her Bogs boots, thick tights, an old (very) jingly belly dancing scarf of mine as a tube dress/skirt and a purple penguin shirt. There was also an Easter bunny and a flower headband involved. She said she was an ornament as she belted out the same mixed up lines of “Jingle bells, batman smells” over and over. I am so blessed to have these experiences. So blessed.
I sang Christmas carols for families at a restaurant. We went table to table and it was amazing to see the beautiful families, all dressed up, celebrating the holidays together. My favorite was the little girl who sang Jingle Bells with us.
A friend dropped off a loaf of gumdrop bread at my house <3
Something that made me smile today was seeing the two beautiful children I nanny for, and giving them big hugs, and playing with them, and being so thankful for a job that truly warms my heart <3
For my gratefulness journal. Every morning as I finish up my Bible reading, I write at least 3 things in my gratefulness journal. It keeps my having great perspective.
A coworker visiting from another country proudly presenting me with a token from her country made me smile today.
Shopped with my kiddos today for the Toys for Tots program. Loved watching my almost 13 and almost 11 year old run around the toy store and pick out some of their favorites for those kids who may not have presents on Christmas. They make me feel so blessed always- but especially this week with emotions so raw!
I found one of my presents hidden in the closet
My son telling me how excited he is for Christmas while moving the mouse into the next pocket of his Advent calendar.

I am studying abroad in Valencia, Spain this semester and tonight was our closing ceremony. Although I said goodbye to so many new friends, we all smiled remembering our wonderful memories with unforgettable people in unforgettable places. I come home to the US tomorrow after the longest time I’ve ever spend away from my family. I smile thinking about hugging them as soon as I see them in the airport. I smile because although my suitcase is lighter coming home, I am filled with so much more than what I came here with – happiness, love, and excitement and gratitude to have had this exciting adventure!!!!
Today, my 4 yo nephew gave me a big hug, said he loved me and that I was the best Annie (our word for aunt) ever! Melting heart!
My son ran into my side and gave me a huge hug this morning because I said he could play with his new toy helicopter while I finished getting ready. Even though I had a crazy work day, my cats kept me company at the home office, which made me smile.
What made me smile today was going to training today. I hadn’t been in a while because I was so tired and sore, but I went today and had a great time. I just love realizing my limitations and pushing them. Call me crazy, but it’s what I really love about my day when I can go. And him telling me that I did a good job today really made me smile.
And spending a moment enjoying a treat of dates with a bit of almond butter also made me smile today.

I love working in a school and every morning when I see their smiling faces, book-bags bigger than their bodies and eager excitement for the day to begin I cannot help but smile!
Something that made me smile today: My almost one month old daughter smiling at me while I was feeding her. “Liquid gold” breast milk all over her little face – being wasted by spilling out of her mouth, down her face and under her chin. All I could think is how lucky and blessed I am to have been gifted to have her in my life.
I was at the dentist, and there was a sweet little girl in the next room and she just talked and talked the whole time to her hygienist. She said the silliest things and it was silent in my room just so we could listen to her!

When I asked my 2 year old what she wanted for Christmas, she told me that she “just needs Mommy for Christmas”. Melted my heart…
We are dogsitting for my parents’ dog, Maggie. I got some great snuggle time in this morning and just when she begins to tear on my nerves, she does something so endearing and caring that I knew she loves unconditionally. Like take my seat on the couch when I leave the room so I have to interact with her to get to my seat.

I’m an elementary PE teacher and the kindergarden students never fail in making me smile! they bring joy and laughter to each and every day!
Something that made me smile today was going shopping with two of my kids. I take kids individually to get presents for their siblings. We get a chance to talk one on one and we always get some sort of treat. By far this is one of my favorite traditions and I think it is one of theirs as well.

I smiled today because I had an awesome, relaxing afternoon going out to lunch with my best friend
Thank you for this post. I’ve been trying to push it away, because it’s just too sad. But you’re right; if we keep “pushing the bruise” (great analogy) we’ll act differently. And that’s what this world needs. We need people to start acting differently- acting with love for their fellow human being.
Something that made me smile today was seeing my friends at swim practice. They are a great bunch!

Running through the first sloppy snowfall of the year while looking at all of the Christmas lights in the neighborhood
A sweet puppy named Velvet at the humane society where I work. She happily spent like 15 minutes in my lap! And put her chin on my shoulder. So sweet.
Finishing my final!
I’m a medical student on my obstetrics rotation. Last night I delivered a baby for the first time, and for many hours I watched a husband lovingly encourage his wife. He looked so amazed and proud of her, but nothing made me smile more than when I put that baby on her tummy and saw them hold their baby boy for the first time. After such a tragedy on Friday, I couldn’t help but be thankful that he was ever so safe with his parents in that moment.
Beautiful.
Thinking of how last night my 7 yo daughter asked me to cuddle with her in bed for a bit. Instead of saying, “I have to get back to the laundry,” I said, “scoot over!”. It was the best 15 minute cuddle session ever. I have vowed to continue to push on that bruise as many times a day as necessary so I continue to love my 5 and 7 yo girls for every single second God blesses me with their presence.
Love this, Juli. When we press the bruise, it doesn’t make what happened make sense, but it makes the lives of those children continue to matter by give us intention, purpose and gratitude for our own.
When I came into the house this evening, and I got to see my boys’ beautiful smiling faces!
Making (and decorating) your sugar cookies with my boyfriend- to mail to his family!

It’s tradition. Merry Christmas to you and your sweet family.

One of my students–a high school senior–gave me a holiday gift today that totally made my day. It was a pretty little bracelet. And she said the reason she was giving it to me was because I have complimented her a few times on the bracelets I’ve seen her wearing and she thought I should have one, too. I thought that was so sweet and thoughtful. It definitely made my day!
The thing that made me smile today was my son. We both have been sick for days and he had a sneezing fit and snot went EVERYWHERE. He normally cries when this kind of thing happens, he’s not much for getting messy, especially of the bodily excretion varieties, but he just looked up at me and we both started laughing hysterically.
My husband and I made up a tune to the 12 days of Christmas – only it was about 12 things related to running that happened to us this year. It was funny – with the first day of Christmas being a popped rib!
Merry Christmas to you! Love your blog and humor.
my twin boys turning 2! they had more fun with the wrapping paper than the actual gifts we got them:)
I was taking my 15 yr old to the movies and while we were there waiting for her friend my 4 yr old was in the back seat in his car seat asking me if I could see him. He kept closing his eyes and making funny faces each time asking “can you see me now” and I would answer “no” and then he would said “now”….it was pretty priceless and definitely brought a smile to myself and my 15 yr old which is pretty hard to do these days!
Kissing my boyfriend for the first time in 6 months
Away at gradschool.

And reading all these other smile moments was heartwarming – much needed these days. Thank you for that unexpected gift!

I told a story about my mom and one of my students said in pure disbelief “you have a mom?”
My 2 1/2 year old dancing to Christmas music while eating breakfast. He was pretty into it.

Trying to get my 5 year old to do his homework is a daily battle, today I started poking him on his ribs with the eraser side of the pencil to get his attention, he went from whining to laughing, I decided to let go of frustration and not only smiled but laughed with him… and {homework} mission accomplished.
My kitty made me smile today. She was just laying on the bed not even trying to be cute but she just can’t help but make me melt.

It’s still just so fresh and horrible. I have to be really careful what parts of the news I watch and where I go online.
I smiled today when my husband came home because it just feels better when we’re together.
It really does make my heart ache so much. And I understand wanting the pain to hang around as that constant reminder; I just wish it didn’t have to.
I had a very child-like moment today. I went outside for a run and suddenly a few random flurries turned into a full on snow by the end of my 3 miles. I was laughing like a kid with a GIANT grin on my face while I was running. It was such a perfect moment.
I smiled today when I opened up a package from my friend’s mom, including a personalized gingerbread-woman donning my name and a t-shirt with the name of the organization I have volunteered with for the last 2 and half years, LIFT. (Check it out at liftcommunities.org) AND a sticker with Elf on it saying “Smiling’s my favorite!”. What a wonderful treat– it just goes to show how a mother’s love extends to her children’s friends (she made 16 of these little packages for her daughter’s friends during our finals at college).

My sweet little bulldogs made me smile today.
We had gotten dinner at a local grocery store and took our bulldog with us and let him wait for us in the car. We boxed up the leftovers and put them in the very back of the explorer and stopped for an errand on the way home. When we got out to the car we walked up to a little baby with potato soup all over his nose. As frustrated as I was, it was pretty darn cute and definitely made me smile. <3
Getting to eat dinner with my boyfriend. We just had a frozen meal as he won’t be finished with his law school finals until the end of this week, but there is always something special about sharing a meal with those you love.

Taking a bath with my nine-month old daughter tonight has left me smiling. She takes quick moments to rest her head on my shoulder or touch my face before going back to chewing on her tub toys or flipping through a bath book. This time with her is a special part of our day and I hope it never ends.
Waking up this morning to snow on the ground made me happy! That chocolate looks amazing.

I’m a college student and I student teach at an elementary school. This story didn’t happen in my classroom, but just hearing about it made me smile! My friend student teaches in a 1st grade classroom in the same school. It was her last day and the students were saying goodbye. The teacher said to the class: “She has to go back to college now. What do you think people do in college?” One of her students answered: “They find boyfriends!” I laughed so hard when my friend told me this. Certainly made me smile. Kids say the cutest things; I’m sure you know that from your little ones! (:
I delivered Christmas cookies to my precious neighbor, who always encourages me with her positive outlook on life and sweet spirit. Both her husband and daughter suffered unfortunate accidents and are confined to wheelchairs, but the entire family has a level of optimism that is simply infectious. I can’t help but smile when I’m around them.
to do a job i love (work with preschool children) there so wonderfull!
Shopping and seeing a little boy play with the “price checker”. As soon as he saw me he moved away, and I said “That’s ok, but thank you for letting me use it!” and I checked my items. As I walked away he shouted “Thank you!!!” with a big smile on his face. It’s amazing how when we show children a little love and kindness and respect how much they respond to that! His smile put a big smile on my face!!

A co-worker and I wore our Santa hats to work and got a little goofy at times.
We had to take a stray kitten who had been living in our backyard/the neighbor’s backyard to the Humane Society today. I contacted several local rescues, who are all full, and I tried to get friends to adopt him – I was even willing to drive Frye Guy (I named him that as we live off of a street called Frye, and I thought it was cute but not a “name” name) to Tucson or Flagstaff to find him a loving, warm home. But no one could or would take him, so we drove down and surrendered him.
I was crying the entire time.
Later, I told some friends via a Facebook group that I’d done so, and one of them responded telling me that I had done right to the kitten and that he WOULD find a home.
I so needed those kind words to make me smile today, and I am grateful for them.
My kinders doing their very first Christmas program for parents
Oh, Sarah!! I know. The whole thing just hot home. I have a kindergartner and I AM a kindergarten teacher. It made me want to kiss my babies a million times each. So what made me smile is only too fitting. First- my sweet now 4- yr old boy learned how to rhyme today!! It was amazing. Then my adorable Kindergartener daughter decided we should clap for each house of Christmas lights when we were out driving around looking at them. It was absolutely precious. Her smile was enough to light the whole town. Children are such a blessing!!
Something that made me smile today was shopping for Christmas presents for my family. I”m a poor college student and I don’t have a lot of money for Christmas parents but it feels so good to give to others, no matter how small. I work for a non-profit organization so I hear survivor stories all the time. Today was particularly sweet because the 4-year old little girl told me how thankful she was that I have a job that helps heal her special heart. Today my daughter found out that her very best friend is moving from kindergarten to first grade after the Christmas break. I felt bad for her and was worried she would be very upset, but instead she rushed to her desk after school and quickly got hard at work on countless crafts, cards, pictures, letters, etc. for her friend. She is going to make as much as she can over the next couple days, and put it all in a giant gift bag to give to her friend on Friday, which will be her last day in the kindergarten class. She wants to make her friend feel better about switching classes. I love that kid.
The first think that made me smile this morning after my alarm went off at 5:30 am as I was scrolling through FB with one eye open…. A shared post from my Pastor saying “The weather report for this week doesn’t look good…” with a picture of a mild storm during the week with Fireballs on Friday and a temp >1,000 and a blank on Saturday. Have you seen it? Mayan calendar? Ha!
I’m so grateful for you, Mama Pea, and your wonderful writing, insightful posts, and generous spirit, among many other things! Oh and your delicious recipes, of course. Something silly that made me smile – actually, made me crack up – today was when my dad accidentally said that Celiac disease is when you’re afraid of gluten, hahahaha. He knows exactly what Celiac disease is, so who knows why that’s what popped out of his mouth, but it had my mom, my sister, and me in fits of laughter. And I’m sure it will be quoted many times in the future. I’m thankful for silly moments like that with my family. Thanks for this nice giveaway, Mama Pea!
My son and I were driving home from school and saw a Bald Eagle flying right above us. He or she was a beautiful sight.

My supervisor at work brought me peanutbutter cups at the start of my shift because she knew I was stressed and that they are my favorite!

I hug him tight and thank the lord for every precious moment I’ve been blessed with my amazing child, every chance I get. We all should. Thank you Pea mamma, for so perfectly putting into words what our hearts are trying to say, even scream right now.
Spending time with my friend and get kids and making the little ones laugh.
The thing that made me smile today was a little boy, around four years old, coming in with one of our customers at work and declaring himself to be a super villain called “yuck man”. He went around turning everything into gobbledy gook!
Getting to see my family over Christmas break.
We received confirmation that our final document we had been waiting on and received the day before is correct – this document is the final piece of our Dossier
Now we turn it in and wait to bring our children home! I smiled and cried
Praise the Lord!
something that made my day was complimenting another person. you don’t always know how much a small, seemingly insignificant compliment to them, can change their world.
I’m an infant teacher at a child care center. The innocent faces of my precious babies in my class make me smile everyday.
I saw a father with his two boys at the library having a grand old time playing and reading. I couldn’t help but smile at such a happy looking family.
The surprise baby shower we through for a coworker and all the men in our group getting really into the baby shower games…hilarious!
Walking my dog
My little boy made me smile a LOT today- his impromptu dance moves, his “kisses”, grabbing my hand to show me something, leaning on me while he tries to figure things out…pure joy, that one.
I opened my email this morning to find a sweet note from my husband
It’s still early, but I smiled when watching Footloose on the treadmill this morning

Waking up and being 1 day away from going home for Christmas!
My husband made me laugh last night. (Okay, had to do last night, as it is 7 AM right now.)
Watching my 3 month-old son wake from his sleep this morning, open his eyes a crack, notice me looking down at him, and then flash the biggest, most beautiful toothless smile a new mama could ask for.
I smiled at a beautiful holiday card I received
I smiled almost all day yesterday, in spite of having a nice case of influenza, because my brother is home from college and spent the whole day with me, watching movies and being silly
My Meres in her pigtails. They are so cute, and they way up the mischief factor.
I smiled watching my newborn wake up and crack a smile of his own
thought this might bring some comfort.
twas’ 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven’s gate.
their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
they were filled with such joy, they didn’t know what to say.
they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
“where are we?” asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
“this is heaven.” declared a small boy. “we’re spending Christmas at God’s house.”
when what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus’ face.
and as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, “I’ll take care of mom and dad.”
then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
“Let My power and presence re-enter this land!”
“may this country be delivered from the hands of fools”
“I’m taking back my nation. I’m taking back my schools!”
then He and the children stood up without a sound.
“come now my children, let me show you around.”
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
and i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
“in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT.”

My sweet pets. I woke up unable to move because they were cuddling so close to me. That unconditional love would make anyone smile!
What made me smile today was the kind passenger on the bus getting on in front of me miraculously managed to have exact change for a $20 bill (I’m talking a 10, a 5, and 5 singles) so that I could ride the bus to work since I forgot my bus pass.
Starting a new Gospel Community with church friends tonight made my day!
I smiled today knowing time with my family is only a few days away.
I had some girlfriends over last night and put out some treats and snacks for them. My 6 year old then got out her note pad and started writing down the names of the food–”yummy mustard”, “pretzel chips”, and “treats” so that everything would be labeled for them in her words “in case they don’t know what the food is”. God bless her little heart. It made me smile and I’m still smiling…
My husband bought my 22 and 25 year old daughters each quote book on love and life. When I read what he wrote inside each book, (before I wrapped them), it made me smile and feel very lucky to have my family!!!

I’m grateful for the sound of my neice’s voice on the other end of the phone line. That at 2 feet or 200 miles she communicates her unconditional love for me with a simple ‘hi aunt lilly’. I’m so unworthy of her gift of love, of the blessing that she and my other neices and nephews are in my life…but she..they..really make me count my blessings and strive to be a better me. A me who makes the world a little safer, a little bit more of a happy place.

I feel so loved. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that.
I’m smiling over the peace I’m feeling this morning. The only light is the Christmas tree and I’m so grateful that God has given me all that I have and could ever need. Knowing that my 4 year old is sleeping upstairs fills me with joy. My heart aches for those families who lost their loved ones on Friday.
Beautiful words, Michele.
Waking up next to my husband this morning
I was baking cookies and goodies for my fiancés work party and I will admit I am not your best baker. I just don’t have the experience. I was trying to do something as simple as melt chocolate and it just was not working for me. I burnt my first batch, the second batch got too thick right away and then I spilled a bag of powdered sugar all over the counter. When I finally finished (it was as good as it was gonna get) the little perfectionist in me was very upset. I felt so defeated, by chocolate!! My fiancé ate what I had made, looked at me and just said “babe this is simply delicious” he just made me feel so much better and put a huge smile on my face. He knew I wanted it to be perfect and he told me the fact I was willing to bake for him and his co-workers was enough. Little moment like that mean the most!
This morning my 3 year old Elizabeth toasted me with her Orange Juice and my tea over french toast. We always say ‘aaaaa’ after a good cheers! LOL

Spending the evening with my best girlfriends. We buried one of their mother’s last week, far too soon, and we needed the release of our monthly Girls Night Out… we all did.
What made me smile today: My 3 year old woke up and called me. When I came in her room, she said, “Mommy, I’m really sorry, but I peed in my bed.” I reassured her it was okay and got her changed. I asked if she needed to use the toilet and she said yes, but when she tried, nothing came out. So she said, “Mommy, I think what happened is that all the pee came out in my bed.” Very silly, but it made both of us laugh hysterically.
I started a gratitude journal a few weeks ago, and I’m grateful for the practice.
It helps keep me grounded and remembering what is truly important.
Last night, as I watched my yoga class rest in savasana, I was moved by the thought that I love teaching yoga. I am so thankful that I get the opportunity to pass along something that means so much to me and I hope that I can bring that same love for the practice into my students. Not all my classes are great, but I’m glad for each and every one of them.

Oh, gosh. My friends and I are studying for finals in medical school, and every mneumonic that we have for every disease or bacteria is hilarious. “FLU FLU V” for which antifungals cross the blood-brain barrier, or “LUBE YOUR TUBES” for how Grisofulvin works, or “BBB BRAS!” for how to distinguish group A and B streptococcus.
It’s been a hard, but such a good semester, and studying is hard, but it cracks me up constantly. I am so happy.
My favorite thing that made me smile today was finally getting to see my dad. He lives 4 hours away from me, so yesterday after the end of my college semester I packed up and got in the car. Someone I don’t know well at work randomly gave me a Starbucks card.

I said the same thing by the way about not forgetting about the tragedy in Newtown. We cannot forget. I think about those families in every moment with my kids. Knowing I need to be happy that they are here for me to fight with with them about getting dressed for school.
My amazing clients. As a thank you, one of my clients (I’m a holistic nutritionist and yoga/pilates teacher) brought me a huge basket that she made filled with all kinds of gifts that she’s been collecting for me over the last 6 months. Your post made me smile today.
I don’t have children, but I have my cat, Mia, who is like my child. I believe I’d die if anything happened to her. Today, I caught her trying to stuff herself into three separate boxes simultaneously. She had her back leg and butt in the top of my mom’s velveeta cheese box, one front paw in the bottom of the velveeta box, and the other front paw in a ziplock baggie box. I wish we could upload photos because it was a sight to see! LOL
