Snapshot Sunday: Sweet Gifts
It’s been nearly three weeks.
Three weeks since that beautiful night that we traipsed around at dusk, pretending to be superheroes, cheerleaders, cowboys and Egyptian queens. Giggling and running down the street, plastic jack o’ lanterns, Target bags and Yoda robes flapping in the wind as we raced to be the one to press the next doorbell. To hold out our hands for all the sweet gifts we could carry.
It’s been nearly three weeks.
Three weeks of “She got the only bag of Gobstoppers!”
Three weeks of “Who ate my last Butterfinger?!” (Dad!)
Three weeks of “My Reeses have disappeared!” (not Dad)
Three weeks of “I don’t know what happened to my lollipop!”
I do.
Among the many things I’ll give thanks for this week, there is this gift:
the Halloween candy is almost gone.
Hallelujah!
But the really sweet gifts? The kind that don’t come in bright crinkly wrappers?
Those are the gifts I am truly thankful for.
Those are the gifts that never run out.
Wishing you a week full of thanks and hearts held out for all the sweet gifts you can carry.

Snapshot Sundays are my attempt to recapture Sundays as a day of rest. Feel free to participate (read more here)…or just rest.

Beautifully written. I still can’t believe Halloween was three weeks ago, Thanksgiving is just about 3 days away and Christmas is quickly approaching. I am so thankful for so many things but it keeps ringing through to me this year just how thankful I am for my life, as last year I spent the entire week of Thanksgiving in the hospital fighting for my life (seriously, I just didn’t know HOW much I was). This year I get to spend my first Thanksgiving in 4 or 5 years with my family and I’m HEALTHY! So much to be truly thankful for.
P.S. I hope you were able to get that lollipop out of her hair.
What a gift that you are able to give gratitude in a situation that could have left you angry and bitter. He wasn’t done with you! I hope this Thanksgiving is a special, healing time full of appreciation and love for you and your family!
Oh for the love of hair. I hope that ended better than it looks in the photo.
Ha! Yes, it came out easy peasy. The hard part was convincing her not to keep eating it.
Oh thank you. This was what I needed. I know it isn’t a crazy inspirationally intended post (maybe?) but that last sentence was just right. It’s been a rough week. So thank you for your wonderful presence in this world and transferring it to us through your blog. All the best and peace to you and your adorable family.
Thank you, Lia. I try to always share things with intention now. I am glad that it helped you. Next week is bound to better!
hahaha, I’m glad you stretched it three weeks because that means they didn’t just pound a ton of candy so….way to go mom!
Love the popsicle in hair pic. hahahaha, so cute.
Hi Sarah,
I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. I actually went to the library specifially for One Thousand Gifts after you recommended it. I am amazed and inspired by this book.
The funny thing is Ann Voskamp lives in my area! It’s so incredible how your outlook can really change your life. I’m learning to thank The Lord in all things. Eucharisteo is my challenge.
Thanks again for such great posts and recommendations.
peace
You’re speaking my language, Erin. Thanks for your sweet comment. I am definitely giving out copies of One Thousand Gifts for Christmas! Enjoy your week, friend.
hahah that hair picture is too funny! hope you have a good thanksgiving too!
That photo of the lollipop stick in the hair brought back memories of when my children were little. Those were fun times and I sure wish I had my camera out more to capture those everyday moments. Life is good!
For future reference, is there an easy way to remove sticky candy from hair without chopping it out? Wonderful post – I hope you & your family enjoy a week of many more sweet gifts!
It actually just came right out. But for gum in hair, peanut butter works like a charm! Hope you have a great week too, Heidi!
Adrienne didn’t get any of her candy. But somehow, it’s almost gone, too. Weird how that happened.
I’m grateful for you! <3
Right. Back. To YOU.
I love that you took a picture of the lost sucker.
Best Halloween night EVER.
You guys are at the top of my list when it comes to thankfulness, just so ya know!
I was just telling Chris the same thing. Seriously. Can’t wait for our date tomorrow. I’m bringing pen and paper for that bucket list. Don’t let me forget to add making gingerbread men ornaments!
Super, super random question: where did you and your family stay when you went to the Grand Canyon? I remember it looked really nice but can’t seem to find the post on the blog anymore (I’m considering a trip, not just a weird stalker).
Thanks!
Not random at all! We actually were talking about that trip just today. Sadly, we didn’t make it to the GC. We stayed in Phoenix, at the Tapatio Cliffs Hilton, and tried to drive to the Canyon, but got stuck in the snow and had to turn around. We did see Sedona, though, which was absolutely gorgeous. Although Gigi thought we said we were going for “Somedonuts” and was sadly disappointed. Hope that helps!
Happy snapshot Sunday friend.
And happy start to Thanksgiving week!!!!!!
Time always moves so quickly this time of year. I have to remember to slow down and soak it all in.
So elegantly said.
I just love snapshot Sundays
Happy Thanksgiving!
Yikes – Hopefully that lollipop wasnt too hard to get out of that pretty hair!
haha, my mom just bought me a bag of mini reese’s pb cups this weekend because i mentioned how we didn’t have any during halloween!
Sweet!
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!!!
You are just too sweet!
I wish our huge candy bag was emptier, there was just so much this year. I am about to start baking with some of it! So grateful my kids get to enjoy things like that though, and that I get to read this beautiful blog.
