25 Vegan Recipes for Your Super Bowl Party
I had to make a mad dash to the store last night for pineapple rings for our very last photo shoot for the new book: Pineapple Upside Down Muffins. Only I forgot pineapple on my massive grocery run. And then again on my second massive grocery run. And then again on my mini-grocery run.
I am brilliant sometimes.
As I walked the aisles of the store, blurry-eyed, cranky and on a mission for perfectly round rings to top my muffins, an older man approached me and asked me if I knew the difference between Buffalo Wings and chicken wings. (Buffalo wings are chicken wings.)
Then he followed me to the next aisle and asked what kind of hot sauce is on Buffalo Wings. (Frank’s.)
Then he followed me to the next aisle and asked me what kind of dressing is served with Buffalo Wings. (Blue cheese.)
Had I been more patient, had I been less tired, had I not been afraid that somebody else was going to make a pineapple upside-down “something” and rob the last can from the shelf, I might have suggested that the man nix the Buffalo Wings and make something else.
Or a lot of something elses.
So here you go, Buffalo Wings man, in case you want an alternative. Or 25.

and to that I say- thanks!!! and goooo team!
both of them.
since I don’t even know who is involved. ..
I think Madonna is the halftime show… ???
They nixed Beyonce for the lip syncing?! YES!
you know what the best part is? when i do the whole “forgetting things on my list 8 times in a row thing” in real life with no excuses. sleep? got 8 hours. work? nope, it’s the weekend. list? yep, ’twas on the list.
brilliance at its best!
You have a really wonderful excuse. Me? Not so much.
I am FROM BUFFALO and I would gladly eat these 25 recipes over wings ANYDAY! Love your cooking mama pea!
Thanks, Kaila! I still have a few more tricks up my sleeve for the big game…
It’s Giants vs. Patriots (and where I am from that means you are a Giants fan unless you want to get shot)… which only makes the rebellious me want to cheer for the Patriots
Thanks for sharing all these great recipes… I am going to a Superbowl party with a huge chili cook-off and I am the only vegan there = translates into if I want something to eat I better bring it myself and I am totally intending to make all the carnivores super jealous !!!! [evil laugh]
I’m just bummed the Broncoes aren’t in it. But I guess I’m rooting for the Giants because I’m not a big Tom Brady fan. Hope you have a fun party!
MP, you are a Denver Broncos fan??? Now I love you even more! You would be the queen of tailgating at Mile High Stadium. Bring the family out for a game next season, and we’ll all do a Tebow pose together. Come out when the Steelers visit – Ben Roethlisberger is an even bigger jerk than Tom Brady, so we can can cheer for Good (Tebow) to prevail over Evil (Big Ben).
Indeed I am! I bought Pea D a Tebowing for Glory t-shirt for Christmas. And I Tebowed when I beat him (twice) at HORSE in Hawaii
Yeah, I’m no Roeethlisberger fan either. Ew.
He obviously didn’t know who he was talking to!
I have no plans to watch the super bowl (despise football) but I’ll still gladly partake in the day’s food celebrations
Sometimes it’s just easier to not say anything
I have no plans either, but now I want to make a big spread!
Darn you make me hungry. And you are making the transition to Vegan so easy. Thanks!
You are welcome! Hope you give one (or many) of these a try!
Great post mama pea! looking forward to trying Lulu’s favorite pickle fries!
I have 2 questions for you
1. Do you think i can make your Blueberry “Cheese”cake Muffins using all whole wheat pastry flour instead of 1/2 a cup of unbleached flour?
2. I want to try a new variation on your Raspberry Oat Bran Muffins….do you think I can substitute the oat bran for millet flour?
Thank you so much!!
Yes to both of those! Millet flour would be incredible in the Raspberry Oat Bran Muffins…in fact, I may give it a go myself!
Thank you! can’t wait to try them out! This is the reason I LOVE your recipes…you can always substitute ingredients based on what you have in your pantry and it always turns out delicious!!
Is there a reason that some recipes call for half whole wheat and half unbleached flour? Will baked goods be gummier if I use all whole wheat pastry flour
By the way I just ordered your book…it will be delivered next week! So excited!
I just think they have a lighter and yes, less gummy texture if you use a blend. For everyday snacks, like the Anytime Cookies, I like for them to be 100% whole grain, when possible, but for things like cupcakes and more “treats,” I prefer to use a blend. To each their own.
Thanks for ordering the book. I hope you’ll love it!
Thank you!
oh man–this combination of recipes looks amazing!!! Some good ones here for the guys’ poker nights…
But would the guys know they were vegan…?
Pineapple Upside-Down Muffins?! I’d buy the whole book just for that recipe … and although I won’t be having a Super Bowl Party anytime soon I will keep this page marked for the AFL Grand Final and other like events
They are really awesome! And Ashley’s photos of them are adorable!
You are amazing. Period. We dont have Superbowl here but we WILL have Philly “cheese” soft pretzel subs. STAT…yum. I’m off to do a third shop this week, we should by shares in the company!
Ooh, let me know what you think!
I’m so stink’n excited to try these recipes!! I’m definitely making some of these delicious desserts for my upcoming Valentine’s Day party!
Thanks, Mama Pea!
Hope they are a hit. You are absolutely welcome!
I want it all. Thanks for the reminders on some of these buried treasures…cookie dough dip, chex mix, cookie dough balls, yes…oh yes, it all looks awesome.
Sadly, I will not be throwing a party. I almost want to throw a party JUST so I can make tons of dips and desserts and party food!
Wow lady, take a step back and look at all those recipes you have created and are delicious. I myself am completely impressed! And you have also filled 2 cookbooks, what an accomplishment.
I hope you can have a moment to relax now that your shoot is done (right, with your 2 little girls?
).
Lulu has school tomorrow and I have a date with the gym, the grocery store and my kitchen for a new blog recipe! No rest for the…crazy?
I LOVE those basil burgs!! And so many others on this list!
Cookie Dough Dip! I haven’t made that in awhile. Thanks for the reminder!
mmm…I don’t even like football but I would watch the entire game to munch on these!
Pineapple upside down muffins?! Yum!
I’m planning making your Dill Pickle Fries and the Fire Roasted Salsa from the book for Sunday. I might have to make those Soft Pretzels with Nacho Mmm Sauce too though…
All fine choices. Enjoy!
Yum – your suggestions sound a bazillion times better than how buffalo wings look. (I’ve never had one!) Those white bean basil burgers have been on my list FOREVER – I am going to make these for the Superbowl. Although, I *should* splurge and make Mmmmm Sauce. Decisions…
I hope you found your pineapple rings – those muffins sound AH-MAZING. You’ve been burning the candle at both ends – I hope there is a break for you in the near future.
You can make both! Mmmm Sauce would be delicious on the burgers!
Somehow, I knew the two would end up going together.
It’s a plan!
Ooooh I need to make that cookie dough dip! Sounds like Mr Buffalo Wings wast trying to prep for the superbowl… but clearly has never been responsible for providing the snacks in the past!
everything is delicious that you make…
)
I am so happy for you that you are nearly done, and I really hope you can relax a bit afterwards (I mean, at least you don´t have to do cooking for a while
Surely that guy is reading your blog
I was planning on making a recipe for the blog today…is that wrong?
NO! That is plain RIGHT, bc is contributes us
I can´t wait for your new book, honestly.
Thanks for these ideas. I’ve been wondering what to do for the hubby this weekend. He likes to make potato skins and nachos, but recently found out he has high cholesterol, so I’m trying to drag him along on my vegan exploration. Maybe I’ll give those soft pretzels a go. I think the Mmm sauce would put them over the top! I’ve been baking the past few weekends in lieu of cleaning, so that should fit right in.
I have a “nacho-esque” recipe coming tonight, so don’t go shopping yet!
Awesosme line up of recipes, will give the dill pickle fries and bean basil burger a try this Sunday. Thanks, and get some sleep, woman!
Who needs sleep?!
This is great! Good reminder of some old favorites
I was thinking the other day “I need to figure out what we’re going to eat Sunday …” now I know
Mama Pea, I just made the Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie on friday night … SO GOOD!!! Who’da thunk, flax eggs and coconut oil!!! All your recipes are so good, tasty and filling. You have changed the way we eat!
Love your recipes and clearly Mr. Buffalo didn’t know he was taking to Mama Pea!
Thanks so much, Meghan. Glad you loved the pie!
I have a friend who is trying to be vegan for a two month test period, after watching Forks Over Knives. Being a big football fan, she will greatly appreciate this list and I might try a new recipe or two!
Wonderful! Thanks for passing us on, Erin!
Hahaha, aww that poor guy! Also, it looks like you have become a walking food encyclopaedia, and people can tell just by looking at you. Neat.
I must have just looked like I knew food
A weekend here is not complete without at LEAST 2 trips to the store, and I always have a list
Thanks for so many great ideas! It all looks so good.
Thanks for the great list! I think I’ll make at least 4 of these recipes this week! Thank you Thank you!!
Awesome! If you feel compelled to report back, I’d love to hear what you think!
Hi Sarah! I made 3 dishes from this list! LOVED the White bean basil burgers (but I forgot the basil! I bet its even better with basil:>). They were so easy to make, ready to cook in 2 minutes after the potato cooked in the microwave for 5 minutes. It helped I didn’t have my 4 1/2 year old and 1 1/2 old climbing on me – that makes a lot of things easier! I also made the Sweet Tator Tot casserole – wow, it was a hit! And, even better the next day for leftovers as the flavors really soaked in. For some reason, even though I just love sweets and especially chocolate, I just didn’t love the cookie dough dip – much too rich for me; I never knew that could happen to me! Oh well, I’ll keep cooking up your yummy recipes – Thank you!
Thanks for the great feedback…I’m glad you enjoyed so many of the recipes!
For the Philly cheesesteak subs is it really 10 c of water in the dough or did you mean 1 cup? I’d like to make these. Thanks
No, if you read the directions, the water is for boiling the rolls in! Hope that helps. Good luck!
I just saw up thurrr in the comments section that you are a Broncos fan…so, I propose you come out to Colorado and make me all 25 of these recipes and we can cheer for the Broncos and Tebow even though there season is over.
Yes! Gigi was upset that Ashley was leaving last night, so I promised her a trip to Colorado to visit! You supply Tebow, I’ll supply the snacks.
I spent all morning obsessing about Cookie Dough Dip – and now that I am eating it (I have no patience and no interest in football) all I can say is – YUM. Thanks!
I’m glad you gave it a go and that it was worth it
Great recipes. I plan on making several for a Super Bowl party including that vegan version of Chex Mix. As for the actual game, I’m totally pulling for the Giants because the Patriots knocked my team ( Ravens) out of contention and I hold a grudge.
Go Giants!!! And you’ll love the Chex Mix!
How fun, I love Portland! Papa Hydens and The Kennedy School are two must go to places as well,
Gah! Thank you for reminding me that I NEED that cookie dough dip in my life!!
I now have to go through each one I haven’t made and figure out exactly what all I have ingredients for. And you know…it’s all your fault! Or the fact that I’m starting to get hungry… You know, either one.
these look so good!
awesome list of recipes!! those pickle fries look sooo good!!
new to your site and really loving it! your girls are such cutie pies!! thanks for the superbowl ideas….think i’m gonna try out the 7 layer dip
Hi! Welcome! So happy to have you along for the fun.
Can I invite myself to your SB party???? (:
Sure, but I guess I’d have to be having one first.
Thanks Mama Pea! I was feeling uninspired, and this is absolutely perfect!
I just made the double chocolate brownies tonight (somehow I missed the recipe the first time around….that or it was so long ago I forgot so I’m really glad you included them here!), they are awesome!! Perfectly fudgy, you’d never know there is no oil/butter or egg, plus they took like 5 minutes to mix up. Great recipe!!
Thank you! I’m so happy you liked them!
Forget the Super Bowl…I think I just found my menu plan for next week! Love this. Thanks, Mama Pea!
You are welcome! Sounds like a delicious week!
I was just looking at your pretzel recipe (http://peasandthankyou.com/recipage/?recipe_id=6000478) and wanted to double check before I start them–10 cups of water???
That’s for boiling the pretzels in…you’ll see in the directions. Hope that helps!
Oh of course! Thanks!
Yes. It’s been pinned
Food is the one and only reason I go to super-bowl parties. What touchdown? I was too busy licking guacamole off my elbow!
Great compilation. I read through them the day you posted and kept thinking about the cookie dough dip. I think it’s going to be a big hit. Also planning on making your chex mix with an Indian spin. I’ll report back with the results. Have a feeling no one will even notice they’re vegan.
Ooh, I want to hear about that Chex Mix.
Best thing about the Super Bowl? The commercials. And these recipes. Can’t wait to make a few for the big game.
I was planning on doing brown sugar bars for the super bowl party (i’m doing a build-your-own-nachos spread as the entree!) but might have to switch it up with the cookie dough dip…or I’ll just make it tonight and enjoy the whole bowl. Who cares, right?
I like the way you party.
Here are a few more vegetarian recipes to consider for Super Bowl http://www.miratelinc.com/blog/meatless-monday-with-vegetarian-super-bowl-dshes/
Never mind we don’t get the superbowl action here in australia….I’m making superbowl snacks!!! I don’t think the family is going to complain either….dill pickle french fries sound too good to pass up
Yay! Great ideas!! Even though I’m just a “wannabe vegan” I host a vegan potluck (with one other couple) for the Superbowl each year. I have until Friday to come up with my part of the menu, and then have to discuss my ideas with the other wife who’s coming to make sure we don’t overlap. Really, I usually just end up making meatless versions of traditional football food. I think we’re doing snobby joes and chickpea cutlets this year, but I’m not sure what else. I was thumbing through your book the other night and put about 20 post-its on different pages for ideas.
I think some Mmmm sauce is definitely in order though- I’ve had your book since it came out, and I can’t believe I still haven’t made it!
I have one more awesome treat in store for tomorrow night/Friday’s post. This one you won’t want to miss!
Love this post. You have the most amazing recipes!!! My dad bought me a signed copy for your book for Christmas, and I have been cooking up a storm out of it!
That’s fantastic! And I think I really like your dad.
I am in love. A friend dropped by for tips on preparing tofu and mentioned your blog with the comment “and she’s vegan”. My friend a vegetarian for 20 years has been the recipient of my vegetarian cookbooks (50+) as I transition to vegan. I have only read 3 postings and have already done the “dance of joy” over some of your entries. Your cookbook is now in my Amazon cart. Can’t wait to read more.
Thank you so much, Jane. And please thank your friend for passing us on. Enjoy!
I just had the chili from your cookbook for lunch. I made up a batch a few weeks ago and froze it in single serve containers. What a delicious treat for a freezing cold Winter’s day! I think it would also be a great super bowl dish. I substituted regular Eden canned diced tomatoes & a little smoked paprika for the fire roasted because I have yet to find them in a BPA free can
I miss them! I am pregnant with a little baby girl, so I don’t want to take any chances. Enjoy your super bowl weekend! Rah, rah!
So happy you enjoyed the chili. Congratulations on your baby girl!
I loved the bbq black bean pita pizza. I made a few substitutions, I used a whole wheat tortilla shell and cheddar daiya because that’s what I had in the fridge. It was really good. Thank you!
Do you have a release date for your new book?
Glad you liked it, Kristy. The book won’t be out until next Spring, unfortunately. But I’ll still be here!
