Everyday Eats: Sugar Cookie Smoothie

It’s about to get cheeky in here.

I’ve been working hard to get in bikini shape before we go to Hawaii right after the New Year.

Really hard.

So hard in fact that I let a friend talk me out of buying my usual safe, skirted swimsuit bottoms and into something just a tad less modest.

I thought skirted bottoms were retro.  Turns out they might just be a bit more coverage than what I need.  But what a deal!  Twice the fabric for the same price.

Despite his love of a bargain, Pea Daddy has been highly supportive of less material.

That is until my “new” swimsuit bottoms arrived last night.

It took me about two seconds to realize that there’d been a mistake, as I opened the envelope and pulled out what can only be described as string.  And not even a lot of string.  I barely could tie a bow.

This is not an issue of self-esteem or of body acceptance.  This is an issue of not getting arrested on a public beach.  Or worse yet, putting on the thing and not being able to find it again.  Ever.

Pea Daddy’s eyes danced, trying to figure out the right thing to say.  Something between, “Oh, hell no!” and “I love you.  Please don’t hurt me.”

I sighed loudly, and shoved the string back in the envelope where it could do no visual, emotional, bodily or legal harm.

“Ugh. This is so frustrating!” I admitted.  Pea Daddy finally exhaled.  That was a close one.

Lulu stuck her hand on her hip and wagged her finger at me.  “You get what you get and you don’t get upset!”

Now she chooses to listen to me.

No, Lu, what I get is a refund.  And a cookie.

Kind of.

Sugar Cookie Smoothie

Makes 1 large smoothie

Print this recipe!

  • 2 Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride Tea Bags*
  • 1 1/2 c. unsweetened vanilla almond milk, divided
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder**
  • 2 T. old fashioned oats
  • 7-9 ice cubes
  • 1/2 t. vanilla extract***
  • 1/2 t. xanthan gum (optional, for thickening)
  • pinch of salt
  • stevia to taste

*I buy this tea at Fred Meyer/Kroger and Whole Foods.  If you can’t find it, feel free to substitute vanilla chai tea, eggnog tea or even peppermint tea.

**For info on the protein powder I use, see this post.

**To make an eggnog version of this shake, use 1/2 t. rum extract and add 1/2 t. freshly grated nutmeg.

IMG_5544

IMG_5541

Heat 1 cup of almond milk until nearly boiling and add 2 tea bags.  Allow tea to steep for as long as desired.  I like to simply stick the tea in the fridge overnight.

IMG_5561

When tea is fully steeped (or the next morning), remove tea bags and add tea, additional almond milk, protein powder, oats, ice, vanilla, xanthan gum (if using), salt and stevia in a blender.

IMG_5562

Blend until smooth, thick and creamy.

IMG_5564

Pour in a tall glass and serve.

IMG_5581

So it’s not a sugar cookie.  But high holy heck, this is good.

You know those extra thick vanilla milkshakes you used to get and dip your French fries into?

Um, yeah.  That good.

IMG_5576

Only there’s no “shake” around here.

2011-11-29_1446

And no pesky cookie crumbs to get stuck in your teeth.

But if that does become an issue, I’ve got some floss I’d be happy to send your way.

Depending on how tiny your mouth is.

Protein Trail Mix Cookies

  1. michelle says:

    i love lulu

  2. Haha oh man what a bikini mixup! Thankfully you’ve got some time for them to send you a new one before your vacation! I hope you have the best time in Hawaii, I can’t wait to go back!

And that smoothie looks amazing!! I’m so excited that its healthy and tastes like a dessert! I can’t wait to try it!

  3. Sarah U. says:

Oh my…that looks heavenly. I have 6 months longer to get swim suit ready but this is definitely on my new diet plan ;)

    • MamaPea says:

Why we picked January to get married in, I’ll never know :)

      • Sarah U. says:

My brother got married in January too….coldest day of the year….they had to tho…2 children out of wedlock would have just been sinful…even for a Lutheran ;)

        • MamaPea says:

You are crackin’ me up. Mostly because I’m Lutheran. :)

          • Sarah U. says:

We were raised Catholic but seen how much more fun the Lutherans had…so we converted.

            • Sarah U. says:

and I am only sort of kidding about that. We love the new church. Have been going for about 5 years now. Started with my niece being enrolled in their daycare. The people there are really such wonderful people. I haven’t converted and am not a member of the church there…but my brother and his family are members.

              • MamaPea says:

We LOVE our church to pieces. It’s all the way across town from us, but we drive every week. We’ll never move to another state because we can’t leave our church! We’ve gone for almost 15 years but just became members recently. It’s always felt like home, though.

  4. Ahh… I’ve missed you! :) Trying to catch up! I’m making this in about 5 minutes because I have an unopened box of eggnog tea staring me in the face and a growling stomach. You just saved the day (not the first time).
I happen to have one of those bathing suits stuffed in a drawer somewhere. One of these days I need to throw it out. OR make Kitty try it on. It might actually fit him. Thnaks for brightening my day. It was a rough one around here. Cyber hugs! :)

  5. Darien says:

This looks to die for. My question is- what would you recxommend doing to get the same flavor without the protein powder, gums, and gluten free? I know that is a lot of changes to ask, but I would super appreciate it. (ps, I ADORE the pumpkin smoothie.)

    • MamaPea says:

You could leave out the protein powder all together, leave out the gums and I’d add more gluten free oats…maybe 1/3 c. total? It would help with the thickening. If you do tofu, you could also add some silken. I’d just add a bit more vanilla and sweetener too, to make up for what’s in the protein powder.

  6. Oh this sounds delicious! Just the name of it has my mouth watering!
Love the bikini story. Hawaii will be so fun that time of year! Hope you guys have a blast!

  7. That cookie smoothie looks amazing! It reminds me of how much I like sugar cookie candles, but better because this you can drink and well hot wax is not as appetizing. :) Thanks for the recipe!

  8. Walking to the kitchen right now to make that!

  9. lindsay says:

i love that tea. too bad its not totally GF> but i think the pumpkin spice is nice too. I think you should do a snickerdoodle pumpkin spice one next!

  10. I was wondering where this recipe was going. I like where it went. Genius I tell you. Even in your string bikini.

  11. Oh wow, I’m so glad I read this tonight because you’ve just helped me decide on breakfast tomorrow! And on the bikini front, I’ve had a similar ‘stringy’ experience. I’ve come to learn that I just can’t buy swim suits from a catalogue!

  12. Oh Lulu, such wise words :)

Love the sugar cookie tea and their gingerbread man tea too… They’re like dessert in a cup steeped in soymilk.

  13. Lauren says:

This sounds delicious. I never really thought to put tea into a smoothie but I guess it’s no different than a frozen chai.

  14. Haha- love the floss reference! That smoothie looks so tasty! :)

  15. I will definitely be looking for that tea on my next trip to the store. It sounds delicious!

  16. Kath says:

Holy heck is right – that looks SO good!

  17. bitt says:

i hadn’t even heard of that tea! they’ll make anything into tea these days. i’ve even heard of chocolate tea. hope the new suit comes in time for the trip. hawaii sounds like a lot of fun.

  18. Emily says:

My grandma would call those bottoms “dental floss”
I used to be obsessed with that Sugar Cookie tea. I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy this summer and noticed the tea is made out of roasted barley (as is the gingerbread)! Sad day. Any ideas for gluten free similar-tasting tea?

    • MamaPea says:

Bummer! You could try a different vanilla tea, or even just trying the vanilla almond milk and adding more vanilla extract. The oats help give it that cookie flavor too…so maybe that would do it?

  19. Jenni says:

Definitely going to try this! Which protein powder did you use for this one out of the choices you provided in the other link? I have Sun Warrior vanilla at home so I will use that, but was curious if it will affect how good it tastes!
P.S. I made your cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving. Best I’ve ever had, hands down. And to think my plan was to buy the kind that farts when it comes out of the can :) You saying you’d never forgive me was the extra kick I needed to just make that easy peasy recipeasy! I will make it again for sure!

  20. You never cease to make me drool. Good luck ordering a new “string!” You’re a hot Mama Pea, I’m sure it’ll look fabulous. :-)

  21. Maren says:

I’m making this for breakfast tomorrow….already got my tea steeping. My old roomie’s parents used to live RIGHT by the celestial hq, so she went on tours when she’d go home and bring back so many awesome flavors!

p.s. Do you think my sub-par blender is going to grind up the oats well enough? I don’t want it to be gritty.

  22. If I could actually FIND this tea I would be all over this smoothie. I’ve seriously been looking for it for 2 years now in every grocery store around me and no one ever has it! So bizarre.

  23. allison says:

I use to tell the little girl i babysat that all the time:)

I dont like the sugar cookie tea by itself (im a fan of really really really strong tea) but in a shake it would be delicious!!!!

  24. You are too funny. Ordering swim wear is so hard. I did that a couple years ago and had to send it back. The top had more padding then my pillow. I am pretty small so it isn’t like it would have been a bad idea. Except when you get out of the water, can’t imagine all the water it might have retained. We are going to Hawaii in couple months and I am just going to buy one when we get there. Ha ha.

  25. I love this idea! I need to try using brewed-and-cooled tea in a smoothie.

  26. Janetha says:

Someone took her funny pills today! Hahaha depending how small my mouth is. I have had a horrible afternoon.. Thanks for making me smile. I’m in the parking lot of smiths right now (Kroger) and plan to get some tea. Just did legs so that helped cheer me… And this post was the icing on the cake.. Er, cookie.

    • MamaPea says:

Oh no! I’m sorry you had a rotten day. Big hugs, sister. I’d make you a shake if you were here. Maybe in May. Let me know if there’s anything I can do.

  27. Syndie says:

OMG…..Yum!! Why don’t I have a grocery store that delivers?? P.S. the bathing suits that come in envelopes..ran small for me this year too :( . Boo!!

  28. Um, I fink I just died a little bit. Between your bathing suit story and the smoothie…omg. Now I want some fries. #justkidding #notreallykidding #getmesomefriesbetch

  29. Lys R says:

Sugar cookie smoothie is pure genius! I can’t wait to try this! And girl, you got nothing to worry about! You are a true example of eating a plant based diet and looking great!

…said in a non-hitting on you way. Seriously trying not to be a creeper. :)

  30. Jaymee says:

Oo what island are you going to? I live on Oahu! tell pea daddy there is a Tommy Bahama outlet on this island :)

  31. Are you guys taking the girls? Or just the two of you? A little jealous, I must admit.

  32. This looks awesome! I am in the midst of eggnog photo editing. I have more eggnog on my screen than I want.

Because what I want is YOUR smoothie! Sugar cookies and that tea is great…and love that you put actual oats in it. I bet that adds a great little flavor touch and texture, too.

And the swimsuit…well…hey, that’s what return policies are for. Mail order and swimsuits (or jeans or shoes) are beyond hard!

  33. Krista says:

Oh my, this looks fantastic!!! I’ve been looking for they tea since last year but can’t seem to find it here. Booo! But I’m going to look and see if there is something similar at our store that sells loose leaf!
Good luck with finding a new suit!!!

  34. Okay I mean this in no perverted way at all, but I can’t imagine you not looking good in a bathing suit. I’m sure it looks wonderful!

Although if getting bikini ready means drinking this smoothie, I could do that.

  35. Tiffany says:

Oh my that looks delicious!!! I must make this!

Whenever i try to bring almond milk to a boil it gets a bit clumpy and burnt smelling…have you had this problem? I usually just simmer it then take it off the heat, but i was curious if others also have this problem?

  36. Laura says:

This sounds really good, could you run to the store and pick up some tea for me so I can make myself one now, my daughter is sleeping and you know it’s frowned upon to leave kids unattended! Mmmmm, will make one soon!

  37. I need to find that tea! Sounds wonderful.

  38. this post made me laugh so many times- and i can NOT find that tea anywhere grrr, i’ll have to check whole foods when i go back. and get rum extract while i’m at it.
i have been enjoying the peppermint tea though.. and making protein shakes that taste exactly like egg nog. love the vita mix!!

  39. mmMMm this cookie shake is JUST what i’m craving :P

  40. Mmmm…this smoothie beats any bikini, hands down. And I think skirted suits are cute!!

  41. Emily says:

toooooo funny! I could never wear a bathing suit like that, even if i looked like Gisele. Nooo thank ya. I almost spit up my dinner when I saw this post because I just bought that tea yesterday…this will be made ASAP!!!

  42. lisampls says:

i thought it couldn’t get any better than the Cake Batter Smoothie!?!? i’m so happy to be wrong!! xo

  43. Katie says:

OH MY that smoothie looks delicious! If I drink a bunch of those, maybe I’ll feel comfortable in a bikini! …not one like yours though.

  44. Sherrie says:

Is it really necessary to heat the milk first if you are going to soak the tea bags overnight? (I’m guessing you tried the alternative.) Can’t wait to try this!

  45. THIS LOOKS SO GOOD. I can’t get over how creamy and rich it looks! And I love that you used that sugar cookie tea! Its a fave of mine! Smells so heavenly.

  46. oh have fun!!! how exciting. Too funny about bathing suit, I do not know who could really pull something like that off, I know not me.

And I love that smoothie idea, using the tea to flavor it! Love it!! Love thick and creamy smoothies!!

  47. Ali says:

Aww, Booerns for bathing suits! They can suck big time. Also, online shopping for clothes is always a gamble! I am glad that you consoled yourself with this shake though, because it means that all of us get to do the same! I think you look bangin’, just as an aside, Mama Pea.

  48. Hahaha kids chose to listen at the funniest moments ;)

  49. Eek! on the bathing suit. I wonder how many people actually like wearing, well, string?

That tea looks outstanding. The smoothie even more so! I like the idea of doing it with peppermint tea too…lots of possibilities :)

  50. Jacqui says:

this looks so good I had to go put some tea in the fridge for the night so I can have this in the morning! I am using gingerbread spice tea and coconut milk. I can’t wait for morning!! :)

I am definitely going to keep an eye out for that tea!

  51. Brady loves that I laugh out loud when reading your posts when I’m reading blogs and hes watching Bball. Then I try to explain like ” but Mama Pea got this string bikini and then she made a cookie shake, but not real cookies…and then” haha.
Love the shake idea – I just added more tea to my grocery list.

  52. Laura Ann says:

I’m not even kidding when I tell you that I’m literally sitting here sipping on that exact sugar cookie tea. It’s soooo good – excited to have it in smoothie form!

  53. i don’t love the tea, but i would definitely drink the smoothie! good for you for putting it away…i’ll be honest here, in front of the whole world wide web, and say that i would at least have tried the bottoms on. you know, just to say i’d done it :)

  54. Ang says:

My giggling has turned into bellows of laughter and a reprimand from “J” to keep it down a bit. If he only knew:) Maybe I should yell, String Bikini! And see how fast he runs in here. That’s cruel, I know. I need to go to bed….

  55. Tara says:

    Hey, Mama Pea!
I clicked on the link to the post about what type of protein you use, and I use True Protein as well! However, I thought you’d like to be alerted about the nutrition info… you write that 2TB = 1 serving of 25 grams of protein. I’m assuming that’s because you tried converting the serving size of 30 grams. Since grams are a weight measurement and cups/tablespoons are a volume measurement, it doesn’t compute. The actual serving size for True Protein is 1/3 cup = 1 serving of 25 grams of protein.

    From True Protein’s FAQ:
Does your protein come with a scoop?
No, but you can order one from our site for 0.50 cents or you can use a 1/3 of a cup measuring scoop which is the same size as our standard 70cc scoop. All protein/supplements shipped in jugs, receive a free scoop per jug.

I don’t mean to sound as though I’m trying to correct you, but I thought you’d like to know in case you’re calculating your daily protein or something.

    • MamaPea says:

Thank you, Tara! Good to know! I actually have a scoop that I use…I never actually measured it, but it does seem like a lot more than 2 T. Thanks for the clarification–I really appreciate it!

  56. Mmmm sugar cookie smoothie! I think this is breakfast tomorrow.

Thankfully no bikini for me, but I’m working my way back into my skinny jeans haha. Almost there :D

  57. momma b says:

Haha I’m laughing out loud…..you needed your GPS….poor Randy asked what was so funny….it just doesn’t ‘pass on’ to men real well!
Thanks for making us laugh today!
    Love you!
    xo

  58. Carley says:

HAHAHA your blog is the only one that can literally get me to laugh hysterically. I feel ya on the ordering of swimsuits… still trying to figure out how I’m going to finangle my way into my honeymoon suit…

  59. Nixie says:

Hi, great recipe! Totally making these this winter, especially after my workout. :) I have a strawberry “Juvo” powder (raw organic whole foods shake) that would taste great in a smoothie.

Question: What website do you use to compute your nutrition and get the cool label? I would love to do this for my recipes!

    Thanks!

    • MamaPea says:

I use MyPlate to calculate and then I just take a screenshot of the label.

      http://www.livestrong.com/myplate/

      • Lauren Z. says:

Ok, apparently I am suffering from mid-week brain malfunction…I canNOT for the life of me get the MyPlate thing to cooperate! I just see in the middle of the page “What did you eat?” and I entered for example “oatmeal.” But where it says “How much?” I click the drop down and nothing is there for me to select. :( Plus, I am wondering how you enter in all the ingredients for your recipes. Do you have to have an account? Any help you can provide would be appreciated! I hope I’m not the only one having this problem. LOL. :) I was laughing the whole way through this post (as I do with many others).

        • MamaPea says:

I do have an account. I just type in the ingredients and then enter the amounts. It’s pretty straight forward. For example, if you type in “oats” about 20 kinds should come up. Select the one you use and then enter the amount (i.e “1/2″ and the select “cup” from the drop down). Hope that helps!

  60. Lou says:

In Australia we call men’s bathing suits “budgie smugglers”. Don’t think you’d be able to smuggle much in those teeny tiny bottoms! Wish we could get sugar cookie tea down under, sounds delish :)

  61. Katie says:

I love it sooooo much when I have all the ingredients I need for your delicious recipes already in my fridge. I can’t even wait.

  62. Sarah says:

I am all over a cookie based smoothie! I’ll have to leave out the oats (oat intolerant, oh the annoyance!) but yummy! I love that tea too – don’t have any yet but grocery shopping today :D

    • MamaPea says:

I didn’t know you were oat intolerant! Wait, maybe I did. Oh gosh, I can’t keep all your food allergies straight :)

      • Sarah says:

WHO CAN? :D No actual allergies, just intolerances. Gluten, oats, red food dye, who knows what else. Blargh. I miss oats. On the up side, I can no longer eat an entire box of Lucy’s cookies, so, that’s good. Anyway. The store didn’t have the tea! I’ll have to keep looking.

  63. Katie says:

Simple answer as I said, you rock the thong, pea daddy wears bright neon green speedos like Borat did in the movie, lol!

I could or would never want to rock a thong, I understand how you feel, haha! Just don’t think its my style !

Oh but the sugar cookie smoothie, thats my style for sure!

    xoxo <3

  64. That sugar cookie tea is one of my favorite holiday items!

  65. Christine says:

I wish that was sitting next to me on my desk right now. I didn’t have time for breakfast and the coffee I’ve had isn’t sitting that well…

The bikini…well, I think it is a testament to how good of shape you are in that you even ordered it. I look at that and KNOW it will be a cold day in you know where before I ever look good in something like that. :-)

(I have spent MONTHS pushing your recipeas on a vegetarian coworker and she finally crumbled and ordered your book yesterday. Success.)

  66. DONE! Totally making this for my afternoon snack today. Then I am trying my gingerbread tea with the same recipe tomorrow. Great idea!

  67. This looks fabulous. I too have looked for this tea for the past 2 years. Agh…i’m about to take the Amazon plunge. I think this deserves sprinkles on top!

  68. Rebecca says:

I get so excited about holiday teas! I love that this smoothie looks so bad but is really so good. Kind of like you in that swimsuit ;)

  69. HAHA the part about lulu was a literal lol :D
And perhaps might be the most exciting part of my med school rest cramming day today.

  70. Kristy says:

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but could you use chia seeds instead of xantham gum? Would it thicken as well?

  71. Cait's Plate says:

Gah! This whole post just made me so excited for Christmas!! LOVE the first picture :)

  72. LOL! This post made my morning!

I get so frustrated with the whole swimsuit selection. I ended up giving the bikini I had purchsed from VS (why I did this, I can’t be so sure) to my 13 year old niece. It fits her and she’s a twig.

I say.. bring on the smoothies!! And a few cookies!

  73. Trailmomma says:

This sounds yummy! Although I *believe* the Sugar Cookie tea is actually not gluten free, can you believe that!? But I like your suggested replacements. Might have to give this a try … if I can ever stop having that Pumpkin Pie Smoothie! :)

I think I know what fitness program you’ve been doing and I plan to start that after my marathon this Sunday … well, when I can walk again without pain. Mind if I email you a question about it? Mostly how you are following the nutritional portion of the plan/program being vegan.

  74. Anything with sugar cookies sounds good to me and add in smoothie and its even better!

  75. Rum extract? You are just saying that to make your blog PG21, right? As in, I should go ahead and put real rum in to make an egg nog version?

  76. Amber K says:

C’mon you don’t feel like getting arrested for some sort of public disturbance? Nudity? Clearly I have no idea what exactly the charge would be, but I’ll gladly sit back and sip this smoothie while watching whatever goes down.

  77. It looks so Christmasy! And, like a milk shake. Minus the milk and the shake :)

Good luck on the bathing suit front!

  78. This is such a wonderful idea but I’m getting seriously depressed about the fact that Celestial Seasonings don’t sell their Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride here in Canada :( !!!

  79. How about I skip the rum extract on the eggnog version and just use rum? It is the holidays, after all, and I don’t need to squeeze into a swimsuit for months!

  80. ohhh i bought this tea yesterday at target and fell in love with it – can’t wait to make this smoothie with it! especially since it’s a little too warm in cali to be making tea :) thanks for sharing!

  81. Theresa says:

Yay, another recipe that uses protein powder. I had bought some awhile ago and then didn’t really know what to do with it. So I have really been enjoying all of your smoothie recipes that use the vanilla protein powder. :)

  82. Kids choose to remember things at the darndest times. I do have to say that the smoothie is a great way to ease the pain of a bikini that fits more like dental floss.

  83. Amy S. says:

Had this smoothie for breakfast this morning and it was delicious! I threw in some spinach because that’s the only way the hubby will eat it :)

I made your protein berry snack cake earlier this week, and the cake ended up turning a weird shade of green… It was delicious just funny looking. I was going to email you and ask why that is, but this morning when I made the smoothie and added the protein powder, it started to turn that same weird shade of green! Answers my question :)

Also, what program do you use to figure out the nutritional stats?

  84. This is a sin…but I don’t hate it ;)

  85. Celeste says:

So I definitely didn’t have sugar cookie tea bags, but it sure is divine with gingerbread spice celestial seasonings tea bags….

  86. brandi says:

well….i’m pretty sure what my evening snack and/or breakfast will be tomorrow!

  87. I remember long, long ago Deb made a smoothie with the Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride tea and I wanted to try it then but totally forgot, so I certainly appreciate bringing this wonderful idea back into the forefront of my mind! :D

  88. Ashley says:

Yumm. I plan on buying lots of that tea when I get back to the States!!!

  89. Brigid says:

You had me at Cookie! I love these teas. I go nuts every year looking for the holiday collection. I am especially appreciative of the link to your protein powder post. The information there will really help me. I am on a pretty strict weight loss plan and venturing in to a vegan diet gradually. (Dairy is gone! Go healthy cows!)

  90. Hehe, Lulu is such a cutie. And this smoothie sounds fabulous!

  91. Jess Kelly says:

I don’t have the Sugar Cookie Celestial Seasonings Tea but I have Cinnamon Apple Spice Celestial Seasonings Tea and am SO going to try this smoothie for my snack tonight – thanks!!

  92. Laura says:

Long time reader, but first time commenter. I love the blog and am hoping to find your book under my Christmas tree. One question – what dessert would you recommend for a first time vegan baker? It’s my turn to make the birthday cake for my dairy-free co-worker and I want to make something the whole office will enjoy.

  93. Tamar says:

Made the smoothie tonight for dessert. You are a genius. Made a second one for the boyfriend when he got home from work (he needed a pick me up!)

I’m looking forward to the new doughball recipe.

  94. Verlin says:

Wear the string!!! It’s not like you’re at the neighbourhood pool … you’ll be in Hawaii. And you’re only 33 (or 34), not 56 (as Lulu claims), so go for it! I wear bikinis in resort locations that I would NOT wear anywhere close to my residence. When in Rome ….

  95. Marie says:

I was just wondering, what brand of blender do you have? I’m currently in the market for a new one since the discount one I purchased is terrible. It won’t even crush ice! Who knew there were blender’s out there that don’t actually blend anything, lol.

    • MamaPea says:

I have a VitaMix. I saved for a long time to afford it, but it has been such a good investment. I use it multiple times daily! Check Costco or even vitamix.com for refurbished machines at a discount!

Looks delicious! Does this tea not get bitter from leaving it seeping for so long, or do you think the sweetness from the vanilla and the almond milk cancel it out?

  97. Sarah says:

This looks delicious, since Celestial Seasonings is a half hour away from us, we have a great selection at our grocery store (yep, bragging a little ;) ). The sugar cookie and candy cane lane teas mark the beginning of the holiday season for me!

  98. Jenny says:

This is amazing!! I feel like I got to eat a cookie for breakfast today, plus it’s lunch time but I’m still full of my healthy treat!! To save money since the protein powder is pricey, I just got it out of the bulk bin and paid less than half the price of the boxed powders.

We LOVE your book and use it often. Please keep the yummy recipes coming and the stories too!

  99. Jenny says:

Oh by the way, I just threw everything into my blender since I was short on time and it still was amazing!!

Oh by the way, I just threw everything into my blender since I was short on time and it still was still great!!

  101. Two things:

    1. I NEED that tea!!! And the smoothie :)
    2. I’m so glad to hear you dipped french fries into milkshakes/ice cream!!! People look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them I used to do that!!

  102. Sierra says:

I made this for breakfast this morning, but added spinach and almond butter for some extra staying power. No words can describe how amazing it is. Thanks for the recipe!

  103. Lesley says:

Today was my “lucky day”. Your cookbook was available through Mult. County Library’s “Lucky Day Books”–Hot Titles available without putting them on reserve! My sweetie has the appetite/metabolism of a teenage boy, yet he’s 38 (we’d all be so lucky!). Referencing many of your recipes to satiate the hungry man in my life!! Thank you.

  104. Candice says:

Best.Tea.Ever. Thanks for introducing me. Just made some with coconut milk and a splash of agave. Tasted like cookies in a cup.

  105. RH says:

I made this and was disappointed in the lack of flavor. It tasted like drinking raw liquid oats. I can see it working with a tea that has more personality and strength, but this tea just isn’t good for a recipe like this.

  106. Dawn says:

Just slurped one of these down. I usually steep that tea in almond milk.. Loved the idea of making it into a smoothie. The oatmeal added such an amazing flavor.. Not going to lie.. I added more oatmeal. yum!

  107. Cara says:

I’m totally stocking up on more of this tea! I have the gingerbread variety too and I bet it would be great with that as well.

    • Beth says:

I have the gingerbread tea as well and am steeping it as we speak. I’m using maple syrup as the sweetener and added extra vanilla. Wish I had some fresh ginger to steep in there as well. Yum – can’t wait!

  108. Renae says:

I just made this smoothie – gulping it down as I type! SO good! I found the tea at Super Target and I used Spiru-tein (vanilla). I couldn’t stand the idea of waiting until tomorrow so I only let the tea steep for about 30 minutes. I cannot believe how much it tastes like a sugar cookie! This is officially my new addiction. I’m thinking about adding a handful of spinach and 1/2 of a banana next time. Thanks so much!

  109. Jessica says:

I made this tonight-OMG. This is FANTASTIC. I was worried I wouldn’t get a good texture since all I have is a Magic Bullet, but it was perfect. This will be a regular treat for me! Loved how it masked the taste of the cheap not-so-tasty protein powder I have. I am going to go back to the store and buy a TON of this tea while it is in season!

  110. Elle says:

I went on a serious mission to find this tea- like 5 different stores that their website said carried it in my area. I had no luck, so I enlisted the help of my mom, who loves a good challenge. She went to her local Safeway store and talked to the manager, who said they didn’t have any in stock but took her info and would let her know if it came in. Wouldn’t you know it, the next day they called her and said they found some boxes hidden in the stockroom! I got a text from her saying, “Just got you the last three boxes in Arizona…I didn’t know you even LIKED tea!” I was jumping for joy and told her that typically no, I don’t like tea- but Sugar Cookie Smoothies on the other hand, I LOVE :)

  111. Leah says:

Love this. Just tried it with a frozen banana instead of most of the ice tonight and it made it even more decadent! I think the barley in the tea gives it a “malted” taste :) Also, the first ingredient in the tea (milk thistle) is great for your liver, double bonus.

Wow, how have I not found your blog until now?! So excited to try your many delicious recipes, especially this one!
