My Favorite Recipeas and Big News! (GIVEAWAY)

I have a little news to share with you.  I’m dying to tell you.

But as a part of this week’s festivities, I promised to share with you which of the recipeas on our site and in our book are my very personal favorites.

News or no news, I keep my promises.  Which also explains why today, I took my two children, as promised, to the absolute worst theme park in the history of theme parks.  And they had a blast.

I predict listing out my favorite foods will be a lot more fun, and involve a lot less time sitting through the most interesting theatrical reenactment of “Little Red Riding Hood” I’ve ever borne witness too.  I wanted to offer myself up to the Big Bad Wolf as a sacrifice three minutes into his sweaty off-key song and dance number.  But both he and you should eat these things instead:

Favorite Breakfast

Book:  Pumpkin Cream Pie Oat Bran—as fun as this summer has been, I’m ready for fall.  And this creamy, pumpkin breakfast gets me in the mood. (For fall.  Cool your jets, Pea Daddy.)

Blog:  Creamy Protein Porridge—I know, more oats.  But honestly, I love this power packed porridge for breakfast.  It’s filling and delicious and has lots of muscle-building protein.

Favorite Soup:

Book:  Carrot Ginger Soup—this soup is like hot, sweet liquid gold.  I once gave a container to my girlfriend Deb to take home for her family, and she’d drank the whole thing by the time she got home.  She lives two blocks away.  And now she doesn’t want to be my friend anymore because I told you that.

Blog:  Spicy African Peanut Stew—I plan on making this a lot this football season.  Not that I’ll be watching any football. (Cool your jets, Pea Daddy).

Favorite Salad:

2.24

Book:  Thai Crunch Salad—I don’t think I’d ever say buying a book would be worth it for one single recipe.  Okay, I lied.  Buying a book would be worth it for this recipe.

Blog:  Kale Sunshine Salad—this tangy salad is totally craveable, and I never knew I could crave kale.  You will too.

Favorite Snack:

Book:  My KIND of Bar—this is ‘”kind” of cheating, because this delicious crunchy, salty sweet bar is on the blog too.  Don’t say I never gave you anything.

Blog:  2 way tie:  Cake Batter Green Smoothie and Chocolate Protein Ice Cream:  I eat these daily.  They are cold.  They are creamy.  They are awesome.

Favorite Dinner:

Book:  Teriyaki Tofu—you will love the sweet, gingery sauce on this oven-broiled crispy tofu.  Even Gigi begs for it.  That’s right, my first grader begs for tofu.

Blog:  Tempeh Tamale Pie—I think I once said, “This is so good you will die.  And then you will be sad, because dead people can’t go back for seconds.”  I just said it again.

Favorite Dessert:

Book:  Carrot Cake with Cream “Cheese” Icing—the trick is the technique. This moist cake that is the most delicious carrot cake you will ever eat.  I promise you that.

Blog:  Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls—if you’ve made them, you know why they are my favorite.  And if you haven’t made them, I am sorry.

Now to that news.

The book has been selling great and I am having a lot of fun doing all of the press and publicity, and really living out our dream.

But as of last week, I hadn’t yet reached all the goals I had for myself, and as someone who is a bit of a control freak, it was a tough feeling realizing that I had to let go and let you–the readers, and God–the big boss, do what you all want.

I had to give up control.

So exactly ten days ago, I wrote my goal up on our dry-erase board and let it be.

IMG_1358

And today…it be.

We did it!  We made the New York Times Best Sellers List!!!

I don’t even know what to do to express my gratitude.

Except to say thank you, sincerely.  You bought the book,  you spread the word, you did it.  And though it can never be enough, I’d like to give you one of my favorite desserts.

IMG_8748

I will pick three winners at random from the comments section to receive a batch of Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls and an autographed copy of the New York Times Best Seller, Peas and Thank You.

Sorry, I just wanted to say it.

To enter, just leave a comment on this post telling me…anything you want!  I’m giving up control.  For tonight anyway.  I’ll leave the giveaway open until Friday at midnight EST.

Thanks again, friends.  You did this.  And I am so grateful.

    Mama Pea,
My best friend has renamed me stalker pea because I sent her a book and now it is all I want to talk about it..
(and she loves you too, just not in the order of protection moght be needed way..lol)
I have eaten and breathed and slept the book and lifestyle for the last month.
I have ordered 5 copies, most as gifts and the last being my “pristine” copy that was not bent and battered..
but as I looked at it, still in the shiny amazon shrink wrap, just one thing is missing.. I told my friend yesterday
“What would make this perfect is her autograph on it. I might just frame it in a shadow box shrine.”
so I shall wait, with my hammer and nail….;)
    :)

  41. Jess says:

  52. Christy says:

Congrats on hitting the big time!! Love the blog and the book!! I made the gluten free peanut butter dough balls for my cousin at our family reunion in July. She wouldn’t share (luckily I had already pilfered some) and ate about 40 of them on her own in the two days we were there. She’s scared to make them herself but asked me to make her another batch ;)

  53. Dana says:

Bravo Peas and Thank You! I love this cookbook. As a vegan-leaning vegetarian mom with 2 vegetarian daughters and a flexitarian triathlete husband I feel like this book was written just for us. My girls are always excited to try new recipes from Gigi and Lulu’s cookbook (granola bars, brownies, carrot cake) and my husband loves the protein rich, delicious dinners (Pasta with Sausage and Peppers, Chipotle Tempeh Tacos). And I’m just so relieved to have a guidebook for the week’s meals! Thank you!!!

  54. Julia says:

I just bought your book last weekend- making gnocchi tonight! Thanks!

  56. erika bryant says:

Thank you for the recipe/comic book. I loved the recipes and I a specially love the stories and the realness that you brought through the pages. Don’t you love what the girls come up with sometimes. I laugh so hard at my youngest of 4. She did tell me before we went to church that she didn’t need to go anymore because she already knew Jesus. Love it! She also calls here bikini, Kennie. Thank you and congrats on your success.

  57. Chelsea says:

    That’s incredible congrats!!

  58. FoodCents says:

I said it before, but will say it again: in a time when people get patted on the back for selling their souls, it’s nice to see someone get the pat on the back they deserve, for pouring their heart into something. You did well, kiddo.

I feel like a Dr. Suess quote would be appropriate here, but can’t decide which one…..

  59. Congrats Sarah! That is awesome! You definitely deserve to brag.

  60. Vanessa says:

I want to make everything I see on your website but I am too lazy. Maybe receiving a pre-made batch of cookies will motivate me. After all, isn’t it what this is all about? Motivating people to eat better for themselves and their families. You inspire me everytime I go to your site so thanks!

  61. Leslie says:

Congratulations!!! Here’s to you for letting go!

  62. Congrats Sarah!!! That is absolutely amazing, and you deseve it. You have inspired me to move back to a mostly plant based diet and your meals leave me feeling healthy and happy! I can’t wait to see what else you’ve got for us. Congrats again!

  63. HollyH says:

I’m not a Mom! I’m a 43-year old with a passion for delish and healthy food. I just found your site TODAY and was immediately hooked. I can’t decide what to try first.

Even though we don’t have any kiddos in the house, my “kiddo” husband of 20 years will love this stuff.

    A cookbook? You go girl.

  64. Lucy says:

You are one amazing woman, Sarah! You make your dreams happen and I so admire that! I would LOVE this giveaway with all of my heart and feel so lucky to get it! I would even save you shipping and pick it up myself :) (I live in Troutdale)! How about it?

  65. Genevieve says:

Congratulations Mama Pea! And I also should say thank you, sincerely, for opening me to a whole new way of feeding my family with wholesome and nutrient dense food. I will never look at “processed” food the same way again (and I am a food scientist).

  72. Dee says:

    First off… congrats!

But most important, in the spirit of gratitude, I want to say THANK YOU for all you have done. Blogging, writing a book, being hilarious, making my work days workable (reading this blog always puts a smile on my face). I was a meat-eater, ready to go vegetarian, waiting for divine intervention. This blog was that last kick in the behind I needed, and I am so much happier for it. Even my boyfriend knows who you are, and the week leading up to your book release involved a lot of patience on his (and my) part : ) And now we are both much healthier, happier people. I’ve never been so excited about garbanzo beans in my life.

    So, thank you again!!!

  73. Brian says:

This is my first time commenting. I’m doing this for my wife– she would love your book. She’s a vegan and I claim to be an 80% vegan because she’s a pretty great cook. She uses your recipes all the time– they’re pretty great. Congrats.

  74. Katie says:

YOU know I am SO damn proud of you! I knew this book would be on the NY Best Selling List, as soon as I bought it and looked through it, I KNEW it was a winner! CONGRATS again! Love you!

    Barbara

  78. kasey w says:

    Mama Pea-
You are flat out……….. awesome. I became totally obsessed with your blog. Ashley (Edible Perspec.), and Kath (KERF!) have practically forced me onto your blog; it seems you are mentioned at least once a day between the two (I am also obsessed with their blogs, smile.) 87. Vanessa says:

Every time I am on your blog, I want to make all the food but I am too lazy. :) Maybe receiving some pre-made yummies and your book will do the trick. Isn’t that what this is all about? Finding the motivation to feed ourselves and our families the right way. Thank you for all you do, I am inspired daily!

  88. Bonnie says:

WOW! I am stunned! And yet not – somehow, with your readership and loyal fans (myself included!), I’m not surprised. ;) As I was reading your post this morning I said to my husband, “Guess whose book maid the NYT best sellers list?” He turned around from his work and said, “Mama Pea?” :) You know it!

I will say that I have made multiple recipes from the book (in the week that I have had it) – to include croutons (my husband LOVES), balsamic vinagrette dressing (so good), black bean burgers (TOTALLY YUM), blueberry scones, and spaghetti sauce and lentil meatballs. We love everything – thanks for helping change my families opinion of meatless!

  96. MzSlyde says:

Holy Veggie Delight. CONGRATULATIONS on NYT Bestseller List – I have read your blog for awhile now and know that you deserve it.
“I WOULD DIE” if I won this giveaway. No really, I WOULD. First of all because I have a husband that refuses to let me buy any type of Vegetarian or Vegan cookbooks. So I have to get all my recipes (that I cook for myself for lunch’s or breakfast for work) on all the lovely ladies blogs – You included. SO I would love to read your book and try out some recipes on the hubs and am hoping that I get the response you have gotten with your family. PEA DADDY your the greatest. PEA KIDDIES and PEA KITTY too.
I am sure those cookies would be very much enjoyed as well.

  99. Congratulations!!!! I bought the book and absolutely love it. You deserve to be on that list!! Oh–and I have a sort of fun side story with your fave recipeas. I made the spicy african peanut stew over the summer and my mom loved it so much that she texted me during work to tell me. My mother rarely texts and when she does it usually has so many typos that you can barely read it. She texted about that stew, though. And might I add–very few typos in it, too! lol

Congratulations! I LOVE your website! I just discovered it a little while ago and I am very inspired to keep eating healthy and trying new dishes. I have been a vegetarian for a few months now and I am finding myself repeating many meals and not being too adventurous. This is unfortunate because my husband has also been going along with not eating meat but I do not want him to be disappointed in the quality of my meals. I want him to see you can have absolutely delicious meals at home without meat. Your recipes looks delicious and I can’t wait to get a copy of your book to start making new meals and hopefully win over my husbands taste buds! Have a great weekend!!!

  111. Amy says:

I may have to buy the book solely to try and convince MY first grader to like tofu!!

  114. Margeaux says:

    That’s awesome, Mama Pea!
I’ve been exploring the idea of becoming vegan, but I haven’t actually taken the plunge…receiving a box of cookies and a cookbook might be just what I need to push me over the edge ;)

  115. Aidan says:

Congratulations!! I’m eager to get the book and make these delicious looking recipes!!

  116. Alisa says:

Congratulations! You are so worth it! I want to tell you that I kind of hate you for your peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough balls. They are not even fair. My husband says they’re like crack. I’ve never personally tried crack, but if it tastes like these I can totally understand junkies and feel badly for unfairly judging them for their addiction.
Now to roll myself off to the gym. Thanks. Thanks a lot.

  117. StephanieW says:

Came across your blog months ago and have read it daily since then. I purchased your book and have told anyone who will listen (and even those who don’t) that it was the best money I have ever spent on a cookbook. Every recipea I make is amazing. Thanks for doing what you do.

  118. Megan says:

  120. megan says:

OhhH! I really should make those cookies…cant have peanut butter but I can switch it out for almond butter?

    Will make! Congrats!!

Wow. So happy for you, Sarah. This is so well deserved. I meant to comment last week that one thing I very much appreciated was your post on how you got the book deal. It was so honest and shows all of us who may have similar dreams that it’s about hard work and not necessarily things just dropping in your lap.

I love every single recipe I’ve ever made from your site and book. Last week I made your tamale pie with a few minor changes and a good amount of Daiya pepperjack – for my best friends who recently lost their 9 month old baby. As you can imagine, all of their friends and family have been doing our best to support them and meal train is one of the things we set up. Anyway, they loved the meal (which was accompanied by a kale side salad) and I wanted you to know that your yummy recipe, in some small way, was a comfort to people who really need comforting.

  140. elise says:

Wow, what an amazing achievement! Really inspiring to see. :D

Your blog is witty, thought provoking and a whole lot of fun. You look like you are a fantastic mother and a great cook! 185. Jaime says:

How about I just tell you congratulations. That’s an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud, you should celebrate and you should tell Pea Daddy what he wants to hear (but not that, so more cooling of the jets). ;o) Seriously, congratulations.

  186. Michele says:

As a new “pea” follower, I want to say ‘Thank You’ for sharing your recipes, advice and thoughts on vegan eating. I’ve been on a food journey this past year to find the best option for myself and my family that will help us be healthy and satisfied while staying within our limited budget. I found your blog through the Kath Eats Real Food blog when she mentioned your new book. I have been hooked ever since and am working on switching my family over to at least 4 days out of 7 eating a plant based diet. I have already noticed changes in myself and have found recipes that my kids will actually eat (5 yrs and 1 yr). Thank you again for sharing your journey with us and helping us find the way on our own journey! Good luck with the book!

  187. Oh Sarah- I am just sooooo excited for you! Congratulations. From one busy mama to another. :) You’re my inspiration every day with all you’ve accomplished. Thanks for the link to the tamale pie too! I needed it for my tempeh. :) YOu are fabulous! Congrats! Congrats! Congrats!

  188. Kelly says:

Got your cookbook 2 weeks ago and have already made 5 recipes and love them all! You inspired me to read The China Study, which inspired me to go vegan, then give the book as a gift to my whole family who read it and all went vegan, and my dad’s blood pressure in the past 2 months has come down so much that he is about to go completely off his medication for it! If I win the autograhped copy I will donate my unautographed copy to my sister, so she can stop listening to me on the phone tell her about the recipe I just made and how good it is, and can start making the recipes herself!

  189. Ashley M. says:

Congrats! Your book is amazing and I can’t wait to try all of the recipeas!

  190. Dorothy says:

    Congratulations!
I’ve been stalking your book on amazon.com, my library’s website, target.com, trying to get myself to pull the trigger on a book that I fear I will love and my husband will refuse to try…
I’m glad that I’m clearly the only one with hesitation :)

  191. Liz says:

Congrats! Here’s to hoping I win the book and some dough balls too. At 18 weeks pregnant and feeling mighty snacky; I’m drooling over this list. Ashley’s pictures look amazing.

It was for the pb choc. chip cookie dough balls you mention in this giveaway, and let me just say: wahoo!
A whole party full of people (and lots of little people) enjoyed them. Please send me a free book, because I win the contest (and I deserve it, because I have a little tiny brand-new-baby pea at home to cook for … and not much money or time for shopping), and I promise I will spread the word about your blog and your book.
    Peace and thank *you*
    –Laurah

  217. butterandjelly says:

  221. Haley says:

I bought a copy of your book for my best friend as one of her hostess gifts since she hosted my family in her home. She loooooooves it! She’s a flexitarian, but goes meatless most of the time her husband is offshore each month. She told me that you’re a “genius” of a writer, and my response? “Duh.”

  222. Suzie says:

‘One more thing you will surly love…I told my 10 yr old son you made the new york times best seller list and he said “Doesn’t every book make that list? I said “no, only the the very best ones” and he says “like the wimpy kid book”
Not sure if your up on Wimpy Kid as you have sweet little girls, not 8ish-12ish yr old boys, but feel honored that in his mind you have reached the pinnacle of success by being “as good as the Wimpy kid”
PS, I have enjoyed your book much more then the wimpy kids series I was tortured through. :)

  223. eschie says:

You aren’t dissing “Enchanted Forest” are you? My girls love that place too. I hear you on the stage shows. Did you sit through the ‘Dancing Waters” show too?

  225. Kayla says:

Oh my gosh, that is HUGE! Congrats to my favorite Peas!

I made a triple batch of apple cinnamon pancakes, froze them and have been toasting them for super-quick, early morning breakfasts as I run out the door to catch my school bus! They are the BEST pancakes I have ever MADE and I’ve made a LOT of pancake recipes. It’s so funny because there’s no egg, no yogurt, no oil, yet they are the BEST pancakes ever!

  226. Virginia says:

I bought the Kindle version of the book and have made the carrot cake (delicious), enchiladas, curry in a hurry…I can’t even remember what all else right now, but your book is my new go-to for menu planning. I have still YET to make those dough balls but I keep meaning to…:)

  227. All I can say is I caught my meat eating man checking out your book last night. He may or may not have been reading the recipes but either way its a win. Congrats!

  228. Jamie says:

SO SO SO SO happy for you! Maybe if I win your actual book, I will quit drooling over your recipeas and whining about how my family and my man would never go vegan and just COOK SOMETHING! Regardless of the comments I get from the pea-nut gallery!

And you so deserve this! Because you’re not one of those people who let us just sit here and think that some pretty girls get all the breaks and trip and fall onto the NYT list, but you actually told us HOW you did it and all the hard work you put in. You shared the behind the scenes- so thank you for that as well.

    I am done now. :-)

  229. Courtney says:

I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of months now, but have never commented. I just wanted to say congratulations on making the best seller list! It is so well deserved! 243. tracey says:

Congrats Sarah and a big Amen! You are an inspiration! I love the book!
I made the “balls” and send them to my friend who just had a baby- I don’t know if she loved me for it or wanted to kick my butt for thwarting her post baby weight loss goals! When you live far away, say it with dough balls. Who wants a stinkin’ casserole anyway (well if you made I would)!

  244. Rachael says:

WOW!! Yay, congrats! You deserve it :)

  252. rose says:

i bought the book for my mom because she’s a velveeta lovin’ midwesterner and i knew that your book would make far more of an impact/be tons more approachable than a lot of the hippie vegan propaganda i send her way.

and get this… SHE ALSO BOUGHT IT FOR ME! total fluke! we had a darling little trading ceremony… now i’m just hoping that she trades that velveeta for mmmm sauce!

I got your book today and have enjoyed reading through the beginning. I have two little ones of my own and I share in your feelings as to not wanting them to eat processed food or “fake sugars”. I am trying to learn to cook well for our family and find you very inspiring. I left my full time job ( as a CPA) to stay home with the kids. I have not made the plunge into become a full time vegetarian but I am going to cook all of your recipes. As I read more and more I understand why you became vegan. Anyway, just wanted to say I find you to be inspiring and the recipes look amazing. I hope my kids will enjoy them too!

  275. Raya says:

WAHOOOOOO!!! I’m so excited!! I tell everyone who will listen (and some who won’t) about your book, because I seriously have loved every recipe I’ve made so far. If I won this giveaway, I would gift the copy I already have (kale stains and vegan worcestshire drips included) to someone else and selfishly keep the clean and pristine autographed copy for myself. Although I think it’s obvious that it won’t stay that way for long. :)

  276. Lisa says:

    Congrats Mama Pea!!

  277. Jessi says:

Congrats! You are an inspiration to me. About a year ago I started my own blog (and moved to Portland!) and have since referenced you and your pea family many many many times! It is great to see a woman successfully spread the word about the importance of eating fruits and veggies in a non-pushy, non-intimidating way! You rule!

  278. Kathryn says:

Congrats Mama Pea! I just counted and in the past 3 weeks, 23 of my meals came from your blog or cookbook. When are you starting the sequel?

  279. Allison says:

  285. A zucchini poem by George Shannon (an ode to your zucchini succotash quesadillas)

    It begins with…

    Zucchini
    Meeny
    Miney
    Moe.
    Plant a seed
    And watch it grow

    And ends with…

    Zucchini juice.
    Zucchini mouse.
    Zucchini jam and scone.
    Zucchini hash
    And succotash
    Zucchini
    Meeny
    Miney

    • MamaPea says:

Which Costco? We are available in the West Coast region of Costcos.

      • Dawn says:

Well I feel silly. When I saw that it was available at Costco I just thought it would be everywhere. I am in the Birmingham, AL area. But I am definitely getting your book, so maybe I will order it. Thanks for letting me know.

  291. Jen says:

Congratulations! I like to think I had a part in this, considering I bought the book on my Kindle. You might actually end up getting two buys from me, because I’m feeling the need for a hard copy so that I can see all the beautiful colors! The pictures in this post are gorgeous. I’ve been dying to make your KIND of bars. Now it just needs to be fall so that I can make that carrot soup…not that carrot soup should be restricted to a season!

  293. Rachel says:

Big congrats on making the best sellers list!

  297. Kathy says:

  311. Wow! Congratulations! That is seriously amazing/a dream come true. I just started work today at a really great food store -cough- WHOLE FOODS -cough- and they have a decent book section. They also have a comments box for any employee suggestions. When I heard that, I instantly thought of your book, and decided that I would suggest your book to them, considering their extreme friendliness to vegan/vegetarian lifestyles, and also because, quite obviously, I love your book! I’m so happy to hear your great news! Again, congrats!

  312. Kathy says:

Congrats! I bought this for my mom for her birthday, but am probably going to sneak it into my suitcase next time I go home to visit :) And the tempeh tamale pie is fantastic – luckily I didn’t die after eating it because I can’t eat enough of it.

  324. ande says:

I wish more people would ask themselves this.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life, and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it, and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water. In the first pot, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs and the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, “Tell me what do you see?” “Carrots, eggs, and coffee,” she replied. She brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they got soft. She then asked her to take the egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, she asked her to smell and sip the coffee. The daughter smiled, as she smelled and tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, “What’s the point, mother?”

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity- boiling water-but each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water they had changed the water. “Which are you?” she asked her daughter. “When trials and adversity knock on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?”

Oh how I would love some dough balls! I can’t believe how many people I have told about your book (and your blog). I have kept close watch at our local Costco (ok, I “might” have even travelled to a few others) in search of your book (unfortunately to no avail). Ironic that I’m hyping a book that I haven’t even read, based soley on delicious blog reci”peas”.
My patients are even listening to my advice (about reading your blog/book), not about doing their therapy unfortunately! Maybe I could. Ribe them to do their exercises with the dough balls?

  336. Sarah Holt says:

I just discovered your blog and am loving the recipes

  337. Jennifer says:

Congrats on making the New York Times Best Sellers list! It is such an awesome accomplishment. Your book is my favorite cookbook and has a permanent home in the kitchen because I use it everyday. I would love to win some dough balls. My husband informed me today that I had ‘ruined him’. Apparently after eating a healthy vegan diet including better for you treats he was grossed out by a snack bar that a co-worker brought in. He said it left a greasy ring on his plate and an icky feeling in his stomach. Poor guy…I guess I need to whip up a tasty treat from the book pronto (or win some ☺).

  338. Bliss Doubt says:

The NY Times best seller list, wowwwwwwww!!!! You deserve it Mama Pea. Of all the blogs I follow, only you post every single day, with new recipes, ideas, great photos of your beautiful family. What you have done to gather your crowd around you has been nothing less than dang hard work every blessed day. Congratulations.

  339. Angie says:

Congrats Mama Pea! My husband is the farthest thing from a vegetarian, so I would love a copy of your book to show him how wonderful meatless meals can be.

  346. Julia says:

Congratulations! I am a meat eater but have a dairy allergy. This is my favorite vegan blog because I’ve made a bunch of the recipes and all my meat and dairy loving friends have fawned over everyone one! The vegetarians and vegans are always blown away too. So THANK YOU for making something seemingly impossible totally…. possible!

  347. gwen says:

Since the whiteboard thing worked for you, maybe I should write “No more 100 + degree days”…we’re over 70 now and no relief in sight. Guess that’s a good excuse to stay inside and try more recipes from your cookbook!

  352. Meg says:

Mama Pea, your book arrived a few days ago and I am loving it. I haven’t made those dough balls because I know it will be trouble. But if I were gifted dough balls, well, I would eat them happily because gifts don’t contain calories! Congratulations on your amazing accomplishment.

  353. Diana says:

That’s so amazing!! I’m so proud!

It’s my second day of being a 5th grade teacher. And it’s going amazingly! I’m proud to be reaching my goals too! Now to achieve the goal of transitioning from veg to vegan. If only I was less lazy at the end of my day!

  354. Congrats x a million Mama Pea! You deserved this!

  355. What an accomplishment! Congrats!!

  356. TaraMM says:

Congratulations!!! An amazing accomplishment! Even though it is not my great news, it perks me up a little to read about someone realizing a dream. :) I would love to be picked for your giveaway, those peanut butter dough balls look so amazingly good! And a signed copy of your book would be a great ending to a challenging week. Reading your blog is always a great break for me!

  357. bookharlot says:

Congrats! I’ve never tried the cookies, but I’m blaming it on raging morning/all day sickness that prevents anything from looking appetizing. I plan on making them soon.

  358. ErIn says:

I love your book! I look forward to making these healthy and delicious recipes for my family! Made my first from the book this week and couldn’t get enough- never thought I would enjoy a salad so much! Thank you!

  359. Briana says:

Congratulations! I am a new, but dedicated, reader of your blog. I have been vegan for about 3 years and I have two girls (twins, 1 yr old). I spent my entire pregnancy obsessively filling my body with only the best, most nutrient-dense, animal-free foods to keep all 3 of us healthy and growing. I am so proud to say that it went beautifully! But since my twins were born and the insanity of caring for 2 newborns set in, I have entirely let my commitment to health and nutrition fall by the wayside. While still being vegan, my diet was packed with convenience foods and entirely lacking in nutrients. Since exploring your blog and reading your tips and advice for feeding an entire family delicious, easy, nutritious, plant-based foods, I am inspired! You really have helped reaffirm the values which made me choose veganism in the first place. Thank you!

  360. Julia says:

Congrats! I am a new reader so I have yet to try the dough balls… yet ;)

  361. i knew you’d make the list : ) i love your dough balls, but i have trouble eating them in moderation! they are tooooo good.

  362. Chinye says:

    Definitely a major accomplishment! Congratulations

  363. Amber says:

Woohoo! LOVE your book! I seriously overdosed on chocolate chip cookies with sea salt earlier this week.

  364. May says:

Congrats on making the NYT Bestseller List! Your photos and descriptions make your recipes sound so tasty and make being vegetarian / vegan seem so easy.

  365. RachelSD says:

YAY!! Congratulations! Really happy for you. I’ve been enjoying the reading… so glad others will find out about it via the NY Times’ list.

  366. Lacey says:

Double high five, NYT best selling author!

  367. Sarah says:

Earlier I said I was making Tempeh Tamale Pie to celebrate. However, my OB just put me on bed rest for my last few weeks of pregnancy! So…my dear, sweet, amazing husband is making the pie tonight while I get to simply enjoy eating it. I wonder if he would make me doughballs, too. :-)

  373. LindsayBell says:

Congratulations Mama Pea! You deserve every happiness that comes your way. I just made a batch of Mmm Sauce for the first time, and I always thought you were kidding when you said you’d drink the stuff if you could. I stand corrected, as I’m now trying to convince myself not to go back for a third (yes, third) serving, and instead make a “real” dinner. I see Mmm Sauce-drenched tofu in my future…

  374. Congrats Mama!!!!!!!!!!! You deserve everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why do I {N}{E}{E}{D} your cookies? Let me list the ways….

    1. I am 7th grade teacher
    2. I have started having PANIC attacks because the HUGE amount of stress I am under at my school
    4. I am starting to work on my Ph.D
    5. One of my class, I literally think I could hang myself from the tables!!!!!!!!! (Students are HORRIBLE)

best news of my whole day!
I’ve been home sick though – so my threshold for great news is pretty low.

    congrats mama pea!

  379. Congratulations! I know you have done a ton of promotion for the book and every bit of marketing counts, but when it comes down to it, the only way you could have gotten here was by putting out an excellent product. You should be incredibly proud of what you have done. This is a big win, not only for Peas and Thank You, but for the whole vegan community. I’m excited to see what is next for you!

  380. Marybeth says:

CONGRATULATIONS on achieving your goal! You are an inspiration. I started eating a vegan diet a little over a year ago when I was diagnosed with cancer, as I felt like it was the one thing I could do to help my body fight (along with praying!). Shortly after, I found peas and thank you, which gave me (and continues to give me) great ideas about how to ENJOY a vegan diet while nourishing my body. My 3 little boys (and I) love the chocolate chip cookie dough balls light, which I keep in the freezer. My husband has been surprised to find that he really likes some of the recipes, like the White Bean Basil Burgers. So, those are all the things I want to tell you, along with THANK YOU!!! P.S. – I am now cancer free!

  445. Ana says:

Your cookbook would be an ABSOLUTELY necessary addition to our new lifestyle!

    Thanks so much!

  449. Britt says:

  454. Kate says:

When I stumbled upon your blog, I was happy to see you had a book coming out. I browsed your recipeas. I waited. I looked for it at a bookstore to flip through the pages, take your culinary temperature. I don’t have kids, but I can be a bit of a picky eater, so I hoped they would talk to me. I wanted the recipeas to be adventurous enough to excite me, but healthy and not so far out that I would be afraid to try them. I also was a little worried about the possible tone of the book. Would you be too cutesy? Would you sneak in the healthy instead of convert people to it openly? Would every recipe be a variation on vegan chicken fingers?

When I opened the book I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was absolutely tone and flavor perfect (as I keep discovering as I cook a new recipea). Cute but hip, kid-friendly and adventurous at once, healthy yet indulgent (no hemp and brown rice sugarless oil-free brownies here!), vegan without being exclusive, I appreciate the care that went in to the crafting of this book every time I open it and every time I share a new meal from it.

Congratulations on your well-deserved ascension to the NYT Bestseller list! I look forward to new recipeas on the blog and to a new book someday. Soon, I hope. And if you need testers….

  455. Jennifer says:

Finally bought the book yesterday! Congratulations!

I have to be honest, I have been considering ‘migrating’ to the vegetarian camp recently, however my hubby and kids are meat eaters and not likely to give that up any time soon. So, I stopped at the bookstore a couple of weekends ago….picked up your book….thumbed through it….and ended up putting it back on the shelf. Be well!

  485. So happy for you! I actually just finished reading it last week and I too was the weirdo kid who ordered Daquiri Ice at Baskins. I think I chose it the first time because of its pretty turquise color, and then when my mom told me I wouldn’t like it because it was “too adult” I was determined to prove her wrong!

  486. Karen says:

Congrats, congrats, congrats….well deserved! I am enjoying your book immensely!

  487. Shannon says:

    Woohooo!!!!

SO awesome! Way to go Mama Pea! I think it’s time someone made YOU a batch of doughballs!! I am going to make at LEAST one of your favorites for our company tomorrow night! I really need to find a copy of your book. Oh the life of a poor student who can barely afford to buy her books for school. Scratch that. Can’t afford to buy her books for school…I get them from the library. Maybe I’ll have to add it to my Christmas Wish list, or keep commenting every time you offer to give one away praying that I may actually win one so I don’t have to wait until Christmas.

  501. Madeleine V says:

you should write normal books too!!!

I have a batch of peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough ball dough chilling in the fridge right now, and can’t decide what to make next. Just stumbled on your blog a week ago and then promptly went out and bought the book. I have a bit of a cookbook “fetish”, and your book is one of the loveliest that I own. The book is a feast for the eyes, soul and the belly. The recipes are simple, but more importantly, you use easy to find (and easy to read for that matter) ingredients. For someone who has been contemplating on becoming vegan and not knowing where to start – you are an angel. Thank you! Great work!

    C o n g r a t u l a t i o n s !!! I adore your recipeas and the fact that you’re living your dreams. :)

  797. Colleen Peterson says:

One month ago, I gave up eating meat. I was nervous — I love to cook and didn’t know if I could make delicious wholesome veggie meals that my husband would eat (we have been married six weeks, so I don’t want to scare him off… or starve him). However, that all changed two weeks ago when I came across Peas and Thank You at my local Costco. I deviated from our “normal route” through the store to search for a vegetarian cook book and was beyond thrilled to find one! Who could imagine that a cook book would be so fun to read that I couldn’t put it down — even through a new True Blood episode!

Now, let’s talk about the recipes… AMAZING, WONDERFUL and INCREDIBLE. So, I start telling my friends, family and co-workers about this book, “Go get it now, it’s at the Vancouver Costco!” I proclaim to all that will listen.

My parents, who happened to watch Mama Pea on Good Day Oregon are intrigued with the breakfast margharitas and liked MamaPea’s cute hair. But, instead of buying their own book they take mine. Seriously, this is an emergency. I don’t want to have to go all stealth-like for a B&E (that’s breaking and entering in case you were wondering) at my own mom and dad’s house to take it back, but they seem to plead the 5th everytime I bring up the cookbook that I’ve owned for just two weeks… So PLEASE PEA FAMILY may we have another copy?

  798. Cara says:

Thanks for reminding us of some of the delicious things already on the blog! I eat a lot of oats + protein powder already, but now I’m really looking forward to trying your cooking method.

  799. Amanda says:

i NEED some Pumpkin Cream Pie Oat Bran… right now. Please??? I’m loving your blog – it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside (and hungry). Congratulations on your book making it big!
