My Favorite Recipeas and Big News! (GIVEAWAY)

I have a little news to share with you.  I’m dying to tell you.

But as a part of this week’s festivities, I promised to share with you which of the recipeas on our site and in our book are my very personal favorites.

News or no news, I keep my promises.  Which also explains why today, I took my two children, as promised, to the absolute worst theme park in the history of theme parks.  And they had a blast.

I predict listing out my favorite foods will be a lot more fun, and involve a lot less time sitting through the most interesting theatrical reenactment of “Little Red Riding Hood” I’ve ever borne witness too.  I wanted to offer myself up to the Big Bad Wolf as a sacrifice three minutes into his sweaty off-key song and dance number.  But both he and you should eat these things instead:

Favorite Breakfast

1.17

Book:  Pumpkin Cream Pie Oat Bran—as fun as this summer has been, I’m ready for fall.  And this creamy, pumpkin breakfast gets me in the mood. (For fall.  Cool your jets, Pea Daddy.)

IMG_5636

Blog:  Creamy Protein Porridge—I know, more oats.  But honestly, I love this power packed porridge for breakfast.  It’s filling and delicious and has lots of muscle-building protein.

Favorite Soup:

Book:  Carrot Ginger Soup—this soup is like hot, sweet liquid gold.  I once gave a container to my girlfriend Deb to take home for her family, and she’d drank the whole thing by the time she got home.  She lives two blocks away.  And now she doesn’t want to be my friend anymore because I told you that.

Blog:  Spicy African Peanut Stew—I plan on making this a lot this football season.  Not that I’ll be watching any football. (Cool your jets, Pea Daddy).

Favorite Salad:

2.24

Book:  Thai Crunch Salad—I don’t think I’d ever say buying a book would be worth it for one single recipe.  Okay, I lied.  Buying a book would be worth it for this recipe.

Blog:  Kale Sunshine Salad—this tangy salad is totally craveable, and I never knew I could crave kale.  You will too.

Favorite Snack:

3.2

Book:  My KIND of Bar—this is ‘”kind” of cheating, because this delicious crunchy, salty sweet bar is on the blog too.  Don’t say I never gave you anything.

IMG_7250IMG_7238

Blog:  2 way tie:  Cake Batter Green Smoothie and Chocolate Protein Ice Cream:  I eat these daily.  They are cold.  They are creamy.  They are awesome.

Favorite Dinner:

4.11

Book:  Teriyaki Tofu—you will love the sweet, gingery sauce on this oven-broiled crispy tofu.  Even Gigi begs for it.  That’s right, my first grader begs for tofu.

IMG_7324

Blog:  Tempeh Tamale Pie—I think I once said, “This is so good you will die.  And then you will be sad, because dead people can’t go back for seconds.”  I just said it again.

Favorite Dessert:

5.12

Book:  Carrot Cake with Cream “Cheese” Icing—the trick is the technique. This moist cake that is the most delicious carrot cake you will ever eat.  I promise you that.

Blog:  Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls—if you’ve made them, you know why they are my favorite.  And if you haven’t made them, I am sorry.

Now to that news.

The book has been selling great and I am having a lot of fun doing all of the press and publicity, and really living out our dream.

But as of last week, I hadn’t yet reached all the goals I had for myself, and as someone who is a bit of a control freak, it was a tough feeling realizing that I had to let go and let you–the readers, and God–the big boss, do what you all want.

I had to give up control.

So exactly ten days ago, I wrote my goal up on our dry-erase board and let it be.

IMG_1358

And today…it be.

We did it!  We made the New York Times Best Sellers List!!!

I don’t even know what to do to express my gratitude.

Except to say thank you, sincerely.  You bought the book,  you spread the word, you did it.  And though it can never be enough, I’d like to give you one of my favorite desserts.

IMG_8748

I will pick three winners at random from the comments section to receive a batch of Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls and an autographed copy of the New York Times Best Seller, Peas and Thank You.

Sorry, I just wanted to say it.

To enter, just leave a comment on this post telling me…anything you want!  I’m giving up control.  For tonight anyway.  I’ll leave the giveaway open until Friday at midnight EST.

Thanks again, friends.  You did this.  And I am so grateful.

  1. Carly says:

I just bought your book yesterday :)
    Congrats!!!

    • Krista says:

found your blog 2 days ago and made Spicy African Peanut Stew last night, it was life changing! I can’t wait to get my copy of your book so I can make that Thai salad. My youngest daughter looked over my shoulder and said “that salad is making my belly grumble, can we go buy the stuff?” Can’t argue with that :) Congrats!

    • Jenny says:

I was just sharing with a co-worker who just moved to eastern Ky to volunteer–it’s difficult to find organic/vegan/healthy foods in our little towns….so I shared the book/blog with her (she’s vegan). Congrats on the book!

  2. Becky says:

woohooo! congrats on making the list. giants leaps for the peas and for great healthy eats! win wins all around! :)

  3. Stephanie Putansu says:

Thank you for sharing your recipeas with us through your blog. I’ve been researching becoming vegan and am amazed at how good I feel now! Your recipes and tips make this transition a lot of fun!

  4. Katherine M. says:

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!! I finally made dough balls last weekend for a picnic with friends. They were gone after the first pass around which was a big bummer b/c I was looking forward to leftovers…

  5. Gina says:

I happened upon your book on my way to the airport on Sunday and read (and laughed out loud) it in its entirety on my cross-country fight. I then promptly made two of the recipes on Monday and looooved them and am now reading your blog for the first time. I love your work, and congrats on making the list. After reading the book, I’m not surprised in the slightest. :)

  6. Heidi Nicole says:

    Congrats! You deserve it!
I’m just coming off a stint of unemployment and still living the life of spending no money…but I have paged through the book a few times in book stores!

  7. Abby says:

    Awesome! Congrats!

  8. Caiti says:

Eeeeeeee! I’m so excited for you, Mama Pea! I’ve been waiting for this book for so long, I almost feel like I’m part of the Pea Fam!

  9. Alyssa says:

ME ME ME. okay tonight i made your strawberry mango salad with the cinnamon vinaigrette.. and all i have to say is well done, woman. you’re the real deal.

  10. Shelby says:

Your blog makes me laugh out loud daily. You are a funny woman Mrs. Pea Mama! Keep up the amazing success. What an incredible example for your girls! Work it! :)

  13. stephie says:

Oh my peas!!! Congrats, you really do deserve this!

(I ordered by copy back in June but still waiting for it to arrive in Dubai, I can’t wait to finally open it!!!)

  14. Sana says:

You are famousssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss! Uhh, I can say anything I want? How about my hidden talent? I can touch my nose with my tongue.

  15. jonelle says:

Congrats!!! So very exciting and very much deserved. Love the book!

  16. Weeeeeee! So excited for you! I saw this announcement on facebook but it’s worth saying again: congrats!!!

You deserve every bit of success your book has had. I hope this is the first of many. :)

  17. TanyaS says:

I find it a bit surreal, after seeing the image of your book cover almost daily on the blog now sitting on my coffee table.

I borrowed it from the library, so I’ll be needing to win a copy or I will get writers cramp from copying recipes. Scanning & saving is for sissies, and copyright infringers :)

  18. High Five! What fabulous news! Here’s an interesting factoid about me: I’m not a vegan, or even a vegetarian, but the majority of my cookbooks belong in these two categories. We refer to ourselves as Vegan-NonVegan :) Congrats again!

  19. Alyson says:

Everyone in my family likes the peanut butter dough ball cookies (even the peanut butter hater). And I really want to try the teriyaki tofu, because you come up with ways to make it tasty without FRYING it. Thanks!

  20. Brandee says:

Long time reader, but first time commenting…I just couldn’t pass on this post! Congratulations on making the list. I can’t imagine how excited you must be :)

  21. Janna says:

    No…YOU did this!!!
You made your dreams a reality, and *we* are so grateful…for the awesome recipes, hilarious stories, and just all around awesome book!

  22. I love the book, I’ve read it cover to cover and shared it with my boyfriend! Personally, I can’t wait to try the Thai crunch salad!! Thanks for making such a great cookbook, it’s truly one of a kind. Congrats to the newest New York Times Best Seller Author, Mama Pea!!!!!

  23. Alyson says:

Oh! one more thing……when are you going to be on the TODAY show? Your book is way more interesting than Jessica Seinfield’s “hide your veggies book.”

  24. Amy FJ says:

I am thrilled for you! Good work!

  25. Kari says:

    Oh my gosh congratulations!

Was it Enchanted Forest you went to? Because although I loved it as a child, I would put it in the running of awful theme parks. My favorite part was the bobsleds. Looking back I don’t really think it’s possible those are safe.

    • MamaPea says:

Yes. Yes, it was. It’s worse than you remember.

      • Mindy says:

We took our son there when he was about three and he was terrified. We had to leave as soon as we got there. This was 22 years ago so it is either better now then it was then or far, far worse. Glad that your girls had fun, sorry that you didn’t.

  26. Vanessa craig says:

I need this book!!! I have only read reviews and seen your blog, but I have yet to get my hands on the book!! So excited for your success!

  27. Marsha says:

I bought the book, but with another copy I would spread the goodness to my family.

  28. Katie says:

Congrats, that’s amazing news, but totally deserved! The salad in your book caught my eye the other night…..my fridge is almost completely barren, so the ingredients for that recipe are on my next grocery trip list! :)

  29. martha says:

These look fantastic! Congrats on the NYT list!

  30. Tanya says:

    Congratulations! Very happy for you!

  31. kathleen says:

looks like the Big Guy who can do “immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine” was on your side, mama pea. congrats times a million. it’s wonderful to watch your hard work paying off and your dreams coming true.

  32. Lacy Cooper says:

I requested the book for my library and I have put it on my amazon “wish list” but haven’t pulled the punch because as unvegan as we can be (meat must be at every meal says the beau) seeing such yummy things with no animals involved scares me a bit…..blah if I don’t win I am just gonna jump in and get it! I have never made a meal with tofu and you have inspired me.

  33. Sarah says:

Congratulations, Mama Pea! Your success is well-deserved. I think I want to BE you — but I’d settle for your fantastic book and some dough balls. (ok, a plate-full.)

  34. Laura says:

Both my Mum and my Aunt bought your book after flipping through my own copy! I do what I can because I am SO GRATEFUL for dough balls… and Yogi Guacamole!

  35. one of the things I love most about your blog, one of the reasons I support you as a blogger, cookbook author, wife, and mom is because you are truly humble. I meant that sincerely, although I’m sure you probably don’t think you are humble. I have loved how you talk about “our” book…I have never read “My” book anywhere and I want to give you props for that. :)

  36. Angela says:

I’m eating some of your cookies right now.

  37. Couldn’t have been more excited for you when I read this news on Facebook / Twitter!! Not only is this HUUUGE for you, and your success – its also huge for meatless movement, and spreading the veg-love word to families all over! :) You’re doing big things. Congrats, Sarah!

  38. Tammy says:

I love your recipeas and have shared your blog with several people who are going vegetarian or vegan. Thanks for sharing our talent with world. :)

  39. Amanda says:

Aw, that’s awesome! I just recently found your blog through the healthygirlskitchen blog and I love it! The food looks great and the commentary is enjoyable to read.

  40. Cary says:

    WOW! Congratulations! So exciting.
Someday I will win cookie dough balls made by you… should’ve stolen one when I had the chance. ;)
Seriously, what an accomplishment, and it has been delightful reading this week, I loved how the book came to be, very inspiring!

  41. Lisa says:

Now I really must try the tempeh tamale pie. I’ve had my eye on that one!

  42. I squealed a little and started crazily clapping my hands when I got to the end of this post. My husband thinks I’m nuts. CONGRATS, this is incredible news!!!! You are taking over the world, and that is a-okay with me. :)

  43. Sarah S. says:

Congratulations on your success! Love the blog, love the food!

  44. Tara says:

Congratulations on your accomplishment! I’ve been vegetarian now for only 5 months and I’m struggling to feed my family food that they will like and eat. I meant to say thanks for sharing YOUR talent with the world. :)

  48. Elli says:

We’ve transitioned to a vegetarian family this summer. We need yournbook to help us stay on track when all of the wonderful summer produce is done!

  49. Franny B says:

    High fives to you!

  50. Jennifer Rahn says:

It’s 1:00 a.m., and I’m grinning from ear to ear. You did that.

    Congrats.

  51. Erin says:

I just got the book today!!!! So excited! I had the skinny elvis sandwich for dinner because if there are two things I can’t resist, they are almond butter and strawberries. YUM! Your blog is my very, very favorite, and each time that I see you’ve posted your new blog entry for the day, I get all giddy inside. Thank you SO MUCH!

p.s. while I was at the bookstore getting your book, I paged through Skinny Bitch for at least an hour…it kind of scared the crap out of me…in a good way. Mostly it just very strongly (actually more like viciously) reaffirmed my thoughts on what I put in my body.

  52. Abby says:

    Congratulations! You deserve it! (:

  53. Jennie says:

You are awesome, Mama Pea!! You deserve this – and it’s been so much fun watching it all unfold. Now, I’m going to go eat a (pan of) double chocolate/single chin brownies to celebrate with you. :) (I must say – that has to be the coolest recipe title EVER. Totally made me laugh.)

  54. I think you are a wonderful mother and you are creating memories the girls will always look back on fondly.

  55. Eileen says:

Ooooh! Homemade cookies I don’t have to bake myself. What an indulgence. And your book seems to be overflowing with yummy goodness inspiration, thanks for opportunity and have a great day

Love the book, congrats! :) also, my 18-month son has learned to say “crack wrap”.

  57. aw, Enchanted Forest. all I remember is the crooked house and licorice flavored ice cream that was actually a very dark grey in color.

CONGRAAAATS Peas! that is great news.

see you this weekend! :D when I win, you can bring me the cookies then. ;)

  58. Kristina says:

Whoo-hoo! You know, this only means more and more people will become aware of Peas and Thank You since it’s on the New York Times Best Seller list! Watch out and make room for even more “lists” to be achieved. But know you, the best thing about this post (and your journey to publication), in my opinion, is the awesome testimony it provides that when control is relinquished to God, amazing things happen! Congratulations!

  59. Rachel says:

Thank you or always keeping me up-to-date on delicious recipes, and for keeping me on the healthy end when doing it! Though I can’t afford the bok at the moment, I think it’ll end up on my christmas list in the future :]

  60. Nicole says:

Especially after the day I had! Remind me never to let my daughters both have their own shopping carts at Trader Joes… oh wait, no – I don’t think I need anyone to remind me! =)

  77. Maddy says:

Oh my goodness congratulations!!!!!!! This is seriously such amazing news because of so many reasons, but mostly because it is awesome to see someone who is genuinely one of a kind and such a caring, honest person find success and reach their highest goals. I doubt you remember but I emailed you a couple months ago asking to do an email “interview” for a school project, and you responded quickly and so friendly it was as if you know me. And a funny little story…my college interviewer and I connected over the fact that we are both Mama Pea readers. I’m still so impressed by you and the example you set not only for your own family but for the family that I and i imagine many other readers hope to have someday. I’ve got life envy for you and I’m only 17 :)

  105. Heather says:

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

And fyi, I’ve made a recipe from the book every night this week. My family is loving you. ;)

    On another note,

I like this concept… Giving up the control… Just breathing into my goals…

I want acceptance into Colorado College for transfer this spring, a spot in the winter dance show at my local community college which I auditioned for this afternoon (after all that humiliation I went through? two hours of dancing with NO dance experience? [what was I thinking????] I SO adore a good costume), my professors to email me back and write those evaluations and recommendations before my uni application deadline, my new manager at my new job to be okay with me dropping from “flexible part time” to just straight “part time” (I need to do my homework at some point…), to not need sleep, and lose all the weight I gained from this summer’s whiskey… among other things.

And now I actually feel better. I just needed a comment to rant in. Thank you! And again, congratulations! You so deserve it. My steak addicted dad is consistently going back for thirds (my sixteen year old brother goes for fourths!) when I cook from your book/blog. You’re fantastic. We demolished the single chin brownies in seven minutes flat tonight. ;)

  106. Lorin says:

That’s awesome! I’m not at all suprised, though, because your book is just so different from any cookbooks out there; great recipes with a story and personality behind it. Congrats!

    • Lorin says:

I’m definitely trying your tempeh tamale pie on Saturday and makin single chin brownies tommorow but putting my own little twist by adding mini pb cups on top :)

  107. Gretchen says:

You are a great writer and you deserve to have achieved this goal! With the Big Boss, anything is possible :) Congrats!

  108. Emily F. says:

ps i made your soft-baked oatmeal raisin cookies and i think i ate more dough than final product. thank goodness they’re vegan :)

  130. Penny says:

You have been an inspiration to my family. Because of you I gave up control of what my daughters ate and instead followed them toward the path of healthy eating. Yep…they taught ME a thing or two about nutrition and that embracing a healthy diet didn’t mean you had to give up yummy food. It wasn’t an easy path, but after they shared your Blog with me (after explaining how I was going to just love reading it) I let all my motherly qualms go and embraced the green smoothies instead of Pop Tarts and even started electively buying Almond milk. You are one powerful figure in our life and already they have called me from college to tell me about the recipeas they’ve made since I surprised them with your book. I’m “Mother of the Week” at least thanks to you! Congratulations on the success of your book!

    • MamaPea says:

Yay! Thanks, Penny. I’m so happy you are eating better and that the girls loved the books you sent them. I’d love to meet you and your girls someday. :)

  141. Cassie says:

    Congrats to you!

One of your last posts (http://peasandthankyou.com/2011/08/19/how-the-book-came-to-be/) nearly brought me to tears. I found myself in the same position as you were pre-book many months ago and through some amazing twists of fate (and a heck of a lot of hard work!) recently landed my ultimate dream job. It is incredible and I could totally relate to all of your emotions. Beautiful, powerful post. Thank you for sharing.

Also, I just wanted to tell you that this week has really inspired me to dip my toe into your recipes and try the lifestyle. I come from a family who raises beef for food so I’m totally all meat and potatoes but the way you describe being vegan is very appealing. I can hardly wait to see where it takes us. So thank you for all of the inspiriation!

  142. so amazing that you’re on the NY times bestseller list! congrats! but i’m not surprised at all. i feel lucky to have been reading your blog for so long and being on this journey with you!! i feel so proud… is that weird!? haha!

  143. Marianne says:

Congrats on making the NYT Bestseller’s list. I can only imagine how amazing that must feel. Now I’m off to look up this cake batter green smoothie recipe…

  144. Elise says:

Congratulations! That must be so exciting for you! I haven’t had a chance to make it yet, but the Thai Crunch Salad looked like it would be one of my favorites too!

  145. Emma says:

Congratulations MamaPea!! That’s awesome news so happy for you :D :D

  146. What an accomplishment! Look at you out there, proving that bloggers have guts and glory! Congratulations!

  147. Katie says:

Congratulations Mama Pea. I’ve been following your blog for a bit now and love all the great recipeas, some of which have even inspired me to make something for myself (and this grad student does not particularly like, or really have much time for, cooking!). Really looking forward to trying the African Peanut Stew.

  148. Angela says:

How exciting! Congratulations! Thank you for making fabulous recipes to spread the word that eating vegan isn’t all about tofu and bean sprouts!

  149. Mai says:

CONGRATULATIONS! I have been a long time reader, and I, of course, bought the cookbook the day it came out. While i haven’t made anything yet (coordinated and international move, and then went on vacation – still on that vacation), I cannot wait to have a kitchen again so I can lose myself in your recipes for a few weeks. You taught me that vegan food is even better than regular food, but more importantly your recipes allowed me to prove that to everyone else as well.

  150. Karen Martinez says:

I loooove your book and recipes. I have made so many recipes. With the blondies being my latest favorite

  151. Shannon says:

I’m seriously so happy for you! I only began reading the blog about 2 days before the book was released…I think I read EVERY entry in about 3 days. I decided I’d have to buy the book pretty quickly. :)

  152. Wow what an achievement! Congrats :)

  153. Sara says:

Congratulations Sarah! A few months ago, I stumbled upon your site when searching for a good recipe that approximates my favorite KIND of bar. That night I stayed up until about 4am reading your recipes and super-funny posts! And now since buying and reading your book, I’ve been motivated not only to start cooking 100% vegan in my house (10 days vegan, I’m proud to say, and haven’t looked back!), but also to do a lot more research on the benefits of veganism; I’m now considering this lifestyle for the long-haul. And since I’m lucky enought that my boyfriend judges food less on how much blood was spilled to make it than on how yummy it tastes, I know it won’t be hard to get him on board, too. You have done a wonderful thing for foodies like me, the environment, and families. Thank you!

Now, the next topic you write about is going to need to address the ethics of veganism when a girl has an addiction to European shoes – I can give up eating dairy and the flesh of animals and no prob, but I’m still investigating this one . . .

  154. sarah says:

    Congraulations! I love the book!

  155. Shelby says:

Congratulations!! Thank you for showing me how fun and delicious vegan recipes can be! You absolutely deserve this! :)

  156. Rachel says:

What and accomplishment! You deserve it!

  157. Jen says:

Oh my goodness, congratulations!! Thank you for living out your dream and sharing all of your wonderful recipes! I love the blog and always look forward to my daily laugh from Mama Pea!!

  158. Kesar says:

Yaaaaay! I never comment on these things but I read this all the time. To give you an idea, it’s the first week of my senior year in college and instead of being social (ie drinking) or prioritizing (ie touching my ACCT books) I am sitting here reading about how Pea Daddy gets excited at the littlest things.
But really, congratulations! I will admit that I’m not vegan or even vegetarian but I use a lot of these recipe(a)s as inspiration for quick college-girl-impressing-friends-and-even-parents meals. Also you are funny! Not as funny as Lulu and her pickle songs though, sorry… :)

  159. grace says:

Congratulations!! The photos look so scrumptious :)

  160. Katheryn says:

Congratulations! You definitely deserve all this wonderfulness. The book is fantastic!

Wow! Congratulations! You deserve it – the book is wonderful!

  167. Ilana says:

I love your recipes!! I just had a dinner party and served your seitan fajitas and tortilla soup!! I got so many compliments on the food and no one else was vegan, it was great.

  168. Sünne says:

Ooooooh, congrats, Mama Pea! If your crazy delicious Cookie Dough Balls were any indication than I already knew you’d make it to the bestseller list :) !

Sooooo … I’ve been meaning to make your Tamale Pie for a while now but didn’t have a chance to get Daiya cheese yet (well, Germany sucks in that department). Now I will finally have the chance: Which flavour would you recommend? I will be able to buy only one and want to be able to use it in different recipes. Which flavour is your favourite?

  169. Brittany says:

    Congrats!
I’d love to tell you all about my jury duty day, but well, you really DO NOT want to hear about it. I have enough self-control to keep it in.

  170. tiffany says:

omg yaaaay!!! i’ll definitely end up getting your book one way or another, but it would be awesome to win it, of course. hey, i’m a poor college student. i take advantage of all the freebies i can.

again, CONGRATS! from what i’ve seen/salivated over, this shouldn’t have been a surprise. :)

  171. Andrea M says:

  184. Natalie says:

Awesome! I received my copy from Amazon today, all the way over in the not-so sunny UK and I cannot wait to devour it tonight, pour over the recipes and stories and ick what i want to make first! Ace :)

I doubt the cookie balls would make it all the way oer here and still be edible, but i live in hope :) or maybe i should just make my own batch. Job done!

Getting onto the best sellers list is brilliant, and very inspirational for the rest of us!

  185. SmugMama says:

The book is amazing! I have loved everything that I have made so far and the pages are already starting to stick together (the true sign of a beloved cookbook)

    So happy for your success!!

  186. Rachel says:

    ahh congrats!

what i REALLY want is another week of vacation before i start my next semester, it went by too fast and i’m not ready for another several weeks of mental breakdowns over getting a painting and an art history essay done on time. i also want a kitten.

  187. Maryann D. says:

All this food looks great and I am sure the book is fantastic!

  189. LisaJ says:

You deserve every bit of this success! I just have to add that my favorite blog recipe is the Egg Nog Scones. My family made them this past Christmas and they were devoured!

  190. Congratulations! That is so incredible!!!! I still haven’t been able to buy the book yet (I know, I know…where are my budgeting priorities?!? ;) ), but unfortunately, I can’t eat wheat…so I wouldn’t be able to enjoy your balls…hehe!!! But I’m sure my honey would :)

You’re an incredible inspiration to those of us who just think about chasing our dreams instead of going out and doing something! Here’s to going after what you want and being successful!!

  191. Robyn says:

CongraTulations!! That is so wonderful. I would love to win your book. I do have a question about tempeh and tofu and how much to consume. I remember reading that soy can be bad for you(that’s why I don’t drink soy milk and have stuck with a moderate meat diet) and so I wonder what your take is on this. thanks!

  192. maureen says:

Congratulations! Hope is a powerful thing (and determination… and goal-setting!). I’m thrilled you’ve been able to share the idea with so many people that eating healthfully and with consideration to where your food comes from, can be delicious, inexpensive, and easy! You are doing great things & what a phenomenal example to set for your girls. Can’t wait for the next book!

  193. Ami says:

wooooooohoooooo congrats!!!!! And that’s even without me getting my book yet (husband is still making me wait till Christmas)… and I think everyone on my list is getting it for Christmas too. Maybe you will see another spot on the list come the holidays ;) .

  194. michelle says:

    I knew yo would.

It’s so funny Mamapea, because I have been struggling big time this week. Super duper anxiety about life, huge freaking career chocies onces I graduate..manifest in eating cake and toying with the binge monster. She likes to think she has control.

Something hit me..like an ‘a-ha moment’ when I read what you wrote on the white board.

I will get through. I will get a job. I will succeed in finding balance with food and a health weight for myself. I WILL.

you’ve let the dragon out…thank you.

  195. Jill says:

I bought your book last night and made Mmmmmm sauce for the first time last night! Then I read this email this morning about your big news! That is AWESOME! It must be an amazing feeling to be living out your dreams!!!

I would love to have the autographed copy!!! I would pass my copy onto my sister–she said to me the other day “you and Addy (my daughter) have inspired me to eat more vegetables. What can I do to eat more?” I think your book would be a great guide for her!

I purchased a book for my sister and friend and I liked it so much that I got one for myself! I was turned onto your blog by a friend of mine who is Vegan, and although I am neither Vegetarian or Vegan I do like to try new things. All week I have been making a new, veggie recipe. I have actually let you know this via twitter lol (@StephAndalora). Last night I made the Summer Succotash Quesadillas with the Nacho Mmmm Sauce – this was our favorite recipe to date. Im so happy I discovered your recipes and I wish you all the continued success with the book.

  225. meghan says:

OH MY GOSH!!! congrats!!! God had his plan all along, and as soon you gave him control he showed it to you. WOW, amazing. I just spoke about that in a post the other day. I feel great, I’ve lost a little weight, I’m sleeping better, and I’m hoping to go totally vegan in a year or two (still addicted to cheese :( ). Congrats on the bestseller list, enjoy your success, you’ve earned it!!

  244. Brenda says:

You are such an inspiration! Last night I told my meat loving husband that we were going to start doing Meatless Mondays. I was a little behind on my planning, so our meatless night was Wednesday. I made a deliciously creamy potato soup with broccoli, carrots, celery, onion, and topped it off with a handful of shredded cheddar cheese. It was so good and filling, too. Hubby loved it! I will be trying tofu soon, I promise!

  245. Nikki says:

    I can’t thank you enough!!!
I have been trying to get the family into a healthier (preferably vegan) lifestyle for a short time now and it has been tough. But your blog has been inspirational!

  286. Melanie says:

    Congrat’s Mama Pea,

We made the Terriyaki Tofu with brown rice and stir fried broccoli and carrots. Super yummy, although I used tamari instead of soy sauce and we all though the soy sauce version was the best (made the soy sauce version when we had the Thai Crunch Salad). Everyone loved it and I now officially have my son and hubby eating tofu via the broiled tofu. Oh and I finally figured out the electric oven/broiling issue. I needed to keep the door open. Apparently with it closed, it didn’t keep the heating unit on up top like it does when the door is open. PLus I think it lets out some of the steam and let’s it get cooked quicker. I do have to be careful though, because the terriyaki sauce started to burn by the end of the second side towards the end of the six minutes. I also have to make sure to make the slices not too thin, as those slices got a little burned too. I may just have to watch and not keep in the full 6 minutes on both sides. It’s a learning experience, but I’m excited they are eating tofu when not that long ago they were both saying – I”m not eating tofu.

Thanks and Congrat’s! Also – I’d love to try your cookie dough balls. I have yet to try them, but they are on the list. Heck every thing is on the list. I don’t think I’ve ever made this many things from any of my cookbooks, especially only a month after receiving it.

Congrats on making the NYTimes Bestseller List! Such an impressive accomplishment! I’d have run out and bought the book sooner, except I’m in the process of packing up my apartment to move (to Portland!), and I can barely deal with all the stuff I currently have. But your book would make for a great housewarming present (even if it is from me to me). That Pumpkin Breakfast looks amazing too – as soon as I saw the picture of it, I thought to myself, “That looks SO GOOD! I must make that!”

  306. Kate says:

  307. Gena says:

I love your book!! I bought it during a recent back-to-school shopping trip. My two girls are a bit older than your two girls, and during the shopping trip, they “invited” me to hang out at Barnes and Noble while they picked all their clothes. I was “invited” to join them again when it was time to pay, but I wasn’t even able to get annoyed because I was so excited about the book I had found — your book! I had been keeping a vegan diet for about two months (feeling great and already have lost 20 pounds!!), but hadn’t had any luck convincing my husband and teenaged daughters to come along for the ride. Your book is helping to change that!

On to a shameless plug for the “Pick me, pick me” on the book giveaway — I’ve been raving about your nook and recipes so much that my darn friends keep asking to borrow it. But I can’t spare an evening without it because I cook from it every night! So “pick me” so that I’ll have a copy of the book to share.

Thanks so much for the book and the blog!

  390. Anne says:

I was just introduced to you a little while ago and I no longer have anxiety about sending my son to kindergarden, all day. The thought of being apart from him all day is one thing, but school lunches is infuriating. I have been testing lunches and snacks like a mad woman and even passing them along to the neighbors kids. I live in a school district that has a special “clown” associated to a special fast food place come and talk to the kids. My son, now going into kindergarden made his first trip to this “special place” during a pre-k field trip. I could not beleive it, my job is hard enough to compete with the influences at school and you have given me an arsenal of “recipeas” to defend off the evil poptarts and hoho’s that will be accompanying his classmates at lunch.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

  391. Carol says:

Congrats on making the list! I love your blog and trying out your recipeas! Teriyaki tofu is on the menu for tonight! Mmmmm can’t wait.

P.S. It really is a great book. I had no doubt you would make it.

  394. Malena says:

Congratulations! This honor is certainly well-deserved! I am certainly grateful for finding your blog. You have really changed my life by giving me the “how” piece of becoming vegan. I’ve been steadily losing weight and feeling great. Before finding your blog I was lethargic and feeling a little sorry for myself about the extra baby weight—one year postpartum. The rest of my family is also getting some lovely benefits. :) Thank you and congrats again. I’m off to make some lemon lentil soup and almond joy bars for a friend who just had her second baby!

  395. blossjoss says:

Yay congrats! Sometimes it is hard giving up control. Super hard. Now I’m getting antsy because I don’t have your book. Trying to let it go…But maybe I shouldn’t. :)

I pre-ordered the book and was counting down the days until it arrived!! I have many recipeas “tagged” to try out pronto! I also have two little girls and your meatless meal ideas for kids are inspiring – thank you!

  411. Char says:

My one thing I’m telling you – besides congratulations, because that was a given! – is that I made dough balls yesterday. I started with 18, and ended the night with 5. That shows you how addicting they are, and how hooked I have my family. Having the power feels nice.

I’m so happy you reached this goal, because this is totally a goal of mine one day :D *insert shake that bootay dance*

  412. Mindy says:

I am dying to know your little secret!
I WANT those dough balls b/c I made them and they turned out to be regular cookies (they were good) but not dough balls! I don’t know what went wrong :(

  413. Wow, what an accomplishment…Congratulations!!!!! :) I already love the book so much!!

  414. Alison says:

The best things always happen when you let go of a little control– don’t people always say you find the love of your life when you stop looking?

I also suffer from tip-of-the-tongue syndrome and like clockwork as soon as I can finally stop thinking of what that old neighbors’ last name was…. I remember!

    Congratulations– you deserve it :-)

  415. Dani says:

Congrats! Can’t wait to get your book and try the recipeas for myself :)

  416. Megan says:

I am so happy for you!!! I too am trying to “let go and let God” and, as a class A control freak, I understand how difficult that can sometimes be. It is so encouraging to hear that it worked out for you in such a big way! Ah, yes, and thanks for all the yummy recipes! With your help, my mom and I have helped my dad become almost 100% vegan, and his cancer has completely turned around! So thank you, for everything! Reading your blog is a joy for me on a daily basis.

I am buying the book for my mom who is recovering from stage 2 breast cancer and I just know she will love it. You have made my life easier as a vegan mom feeding my sometimes fussy kids and fussy husband. Thank you!

  425. Evan Williams says:

    Mama Pea,
Thank you so much for this website and all that you work so hard to do for us, your readers. I just found your blog about a week ago and I have been busily scouring it ever since. I am in a very unhealthy state of life right now and am working hard planning to completely change everything. Your blog and key members of my family have really encouraged me in this. You have inspired me to try to become a vegetarian and then maybe (although I have a torrid love affair with cheese) transition from that into a vegan. I don’t have the cookbook yet, but my birthday is Friday and it is on the top of my wish list. Fingers crossed I get it! Oh, and congratulations on the best sellers list!

    • MamaPea says:

Happy Birthday, Evan! I think birthdays are the best time to try to make changes for the very next year of your very special life. You can do this!!!

  426. Your blog makes me smile daily and I am proud to say I have a copy of your book! Congratulations, you’ve worked amazingly hard and the NY TImes Best Sellers list is lucky to have you!

  429. Dana says:

We are SO happy for you, Mama Pea! Your hard work (total understatement) is bringing smiles and a delicious road path for healthier living to so many people! My family feels so blessed to have discovered you (though if I bake one more batch of pb dough balls I’ll need to wear a tent to work). I’m buying copies of your book for friends, but also to leave at my hair dresser’s and pediatrician’s office waiting rooms. Sharing the veggie word!! Thanks Mama Pea.

  430. Molly says:

you are inspirational! going to write down my goals right now! congrats!

  431. Jen G. says:

Seriously, congrats! This was well deserved! I’m cooking my way through your book — something I never do with a cookbook. Last night I had tofu nuggets and Lulu’s mac and cheese. (Why yes, it’s just me. And yes, I am a 28-year-old woman with the same palate of your youngest.)

  432. Wow, congratulations! How incredible — you’re truly showing that hard work pays off. Also: I LOVE the faux (ceramic?) Chinese food box in your dinner photo. Never seen anything like it but totally want one — anyone know where I can buy it?

  446. I just wanted to say congratulations on making the NY Times Best Seller List! :D Can’t wait to get your cookbook in the mail!

  447. Nancy says:

I am not your typical fan, young mother, all the pictures here showing the darling young women. I am almost 65 years old, found your book on amazon.com’s best seller list WAY before the NYT Bestseller list and then from that found your blog. Oh, I wish I were a young, fresh-faced young mother again, learning the things you are so generously sharing with everyone! I went vegan a year ago, then life got in the way before I could really know what I was doing. Thanks to you, I’m headed back! You and the whole Peas family are just adorable!

  448. Lili says:

Congratulations!! That Thai Crunch Salad looks delicious!! I have been really trying to make the jump from vegetarian to vegan and I know that your book would be huge in helping me do that. I have to go buy your book asap!

  452. grace says:

    congratulations! You deserve it!

  453. Megan says:

I almost snatched the book out of a woman’s hands on Saturday! I was at Borders and thought she had the last copy, she was sitting down in the store and reading it, laughing out loud! I just HAD to have that book. But before my not-so-nice attitude took over, I asked if there was another copy and there was, so I just snatched that instead! I read it cover to cover and love it. I already made the hummus and I’m so proud of myself and glad I don’t have to spend $4 each week on Sabra hummus!

  454. Stephanie says:

Congratulations!!!! I want your book! (and those cookies :) My sister and I thought it’d be a great idea to get your book so I could go make some of the recipes for her family since she is having her fourth child!

  455. Dawn says:

Yea! Congrats! I can’t help but feel that my order was the one that pushed you over the edge! I just ordered mine on Amazon yesterday. Can’t wait to try some recipes on my meat lovin hubby.

  456. haley says:

Congrats- that is an amazing goal to reach! I would love to win a signed copy- it would put my library copy to shame!

  457. Kathleen says:

Awesome news :) I planned to make the carrot ginger soup last night and then accidentally chopped up the carrots for my lunch today! Maybe next time…

  458. Sarah R says:

I have only recently found you. I can’t wait to get the book. Any tips on getting a 3 year old to eat lettuce? He is vegan and hates condiments.

    • MamaPea says:

Maybe try shredding it? Give him chopsticks to eat it with (Lulu loves this!). If not, though, don’t sweat it too much…find other things he will eat to fill that void. It’s just lettuce! Put spinach in his smoothies instead :)

  459. Donna says:

    You. Rock.

  460. Eileen says:

congrats!! what an accomplishment! Very exciting to hear about your success :)

  461. Amber says:

Congratulations Mamapea! I’m so please for you! I’ve even convinced some of my meat-eating friends and family to purchase your book! THEY FELL IN LOVE WITH YOU! One went through all of your blog in a week! She spent hours reading everything!

I’m off to convince my sister to try the Tempeh Tamale pie! I’m gonna make a few recipes this week!

  462. Mama Pea:
First off congratulations on making the NY Times Bestseller List. Secondly, I would like to say thank you. Ever since I came across your blog I have been making at least 1 meatless meal a week for my family. Then when your cookbook came out, I went and grabbed it. What a plus to have additional recipes on top of the blog to make for our meatless meals. I have also incorporated the desserts and doughballs into our lives. Unfortunately, the doughballs were a huge fail for me and I haven’t tried them again. Thank you for inspiring me to have my family eat healthier and to care more about how the animals are treated that we do eat.

  463. Kait says:

Congratulations! That is really exciting news and you deserve it :)

  464. Cindy says:

    Awesome news!

  465. Anna says:

That’s amazing news, congratulations!!!!!!!!! I’m LOVING the book~ it’s my new favorite bedtime reading. :)

  466. Rachel says:

Congrats!! I just recently discovered your website and book from some other blogs I read, and I’m not sure I can express how obsessed I have become with your fantastic vegan recipes. We have not been vegan for that long, and all of your recipes are like a breath of fresh air – they make vegan cooking easy, delicious and fun.

  467. sheryl says:

mama – i love your book and love your blog! – your recipeas are now standards in our house! keep em coming!

  468. HilaryJo says:

I am so happy for you :) And I just made a big ole batch of those cookies to give to the cross country team returning from camp! (Former runner here)

Also, all those recipes look INCREDIBLE. Ive loved every recipe Ive made of yours.

    Hm..I want..an internship.

P.s. Would you be upset if I told you I was able to snag your book at Borders for 11 bucks?? (WOOO going out of business sale) IF you are, pretend I never said that ;)

  474. chand says:

Yay Sarah! I was wondering about this happening. So happy for you.

  475. Shari says:

    Hi Mama Pea-
I just want to say that your recipes are awesome! You are helping to successfully convert my meat loving boyfriend to a whole other way of thinking, and you actually have a huge fan club right here in my office in New York City. We love you and your recipes and the whole pea family. Thanks for everything!

  476. Katherine says:

I’ll be honest – I haven’t bought the book YET. Because my birthday is in 2 weeks and it’s on my list and I’m really hoping someone will get it for me. Either way, I’m pretty sure it will end up on my bookshelf within the next month. Congrats on making the list!

  477. Heather M says:

    Congratulations!! So happy for you!!

  478. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you tell we are so happy and thrilled!!!! You deserve it all :) you are the best!!! xoxo

  479. Mallory says:

Congratulations!! That is so awesome! You’ve got great recipes.

  480. Shannon says:

Wow, that’s amazing!!!! Congratulations are definately in order!

I do have a question though, and I apologize if you have answered this before, but what brand of peanut butter chips do you use? I cannot find non-dairy peanut butter chips anywhere, they all have some type of powdered milk or something in them:( I have still made the dough balls, but I made 2 batches, one with the pb chips for my family and one without for me…okay, when they were done with theirs they ate mine too and said they were just as good without, but now I am on a mission!

    Thanks, and congratulations again!

  481. Kara says:

You totally earned this! This is one giant step for Peas and an even more giant step for meatless eating. Congratulations.
Also, I drank a beer last night (Mother Earth Weeping Willow) that I swear tasted like bologna. Just thought I’d share.

  482. Erica says:

I am so stinking proud of you for pursing your dream…how rewarding it must be to see all your hard work pay off!!! Awesome. I am loving my Peas and Thank You book and have even bought one for a friend and she loves it also. Even my meat-eating hubs and kids are LOVING your recipes. Thank you!!!

  483. Alexi says:

Congratulations! I just discovered your site and am on the hunt for your book! Thanks so much for all you do!

  484. Emily H. says:

This is so exciting! My copy of the book is definitely getting some lovin’. Bow chicka wow wow. We have had a few long dates in the kitchen and are getting to know each other quite nicely. Keep up the AWESOME work!

  485. Nina m. says:

I am so happy for you!!! What an amazing accomplishment! I won’t say you changed our lives, but you did help change the way we eat and and help us become more aware of what we put in our bodies. We were the typical meat and potatoes type of family and finally one day my husband was tired of hearing one too many times he had high blood pressure from his doctors. He finally agreed to just try a vegetarian diet for a while. Surprisingly, due to a ton of the recipes I borrowed from here(the red lentil enchiladas with green sauce is on constant rotation in our house!) we’ve continued to stay on this diet and he now has normal levels. A few months back we were on vacation with extended family and we had lapsed in our eating habits and my husband actually uttered the words ‘I can’t wait to go back to eating vegetarian (not vegan since I can’t give up my cheese, milk and butter, yet ;) ) Sorry for the ramble…I just wanted to say thanks for sharing all these great recipes and keep these amazing recipes coming!

  486. Callie says:

I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of your cookbook! So glad to have found your blog!

  487. Congratulations on the Bestsellers List! That is AWESOME! I love that you are bringing vegan eating and all the benefits that go along with it to such a widespread audience, and I love that you focus on mainly less refined and less-processed, nutritious, delicious food. I just ordered protein powder from True Protein and can’t wait to try some of your baked goods. My first try at protein powder since going plant-based! Hope you stay on the list for WEEKS! So excited for you. :)

  488. Emily says:

A huge CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Your words, humor, and scrumptious recipes are an inspiration and truly appreciated…by so many! All the best to you and your family. :)

  489. Stacy says:

Congrats! A well deserved accomplishment. Would LOVE some cookie dough balls!

  490. Linda says:

    Congratulations!!! You deserve this success!!!

  491. Melody says:

Congratulations!! I have not yet purchased the book (shame on me, I know) but I have been telling my friends all about it– can’t wait to try all of the recipeas! :)

  492. Rebecca B. says:

Way to go, Mama Pea! You are certainly well-deserving of your accomplishments, as a mom, blogger, and now a best-selling author :)

  493. Emily says:

Congrats on making the NYT best sellers list! I’m a vegetarian looking to try some more vegan recipes and yours look AMAZING. I recently made the peanut mmmm sauce and it was to die for! I would love to try the recipes in the book!

  494. Amazing!! Congratulations, Mama Pea! You deserve it!!

  495. Congratulations!!! That is incredible! I cannot wait to get a copy of Peas and Thank You!! You’re awesome!

  496. Erin says:

I made this pumpkin oat bran for breakfast and the kids devoured it! My favorite recipe so far is the pizza dough. I will never again buy a frozen pizza!! And, on a side note, thank you for giving me a passion for cooking. Everyday I look forward to trying a new recipe from your book or blog, and it gives me so much satisfaction when they turn out so well and the whole family enjoys a healthy meal together. My husband even said to me yesterday how happy he is to see me get so excited about something (outside of the kids). As a stay at home mom who doesn’t get out much, being passionate about something other than your family is so important and you have done that for me and for that I am so appreciative.

  497. Kirsten says:

Wow! So happy for you! I can’t say I’m surprised though…your book is so good it deserves it’s spot on the list. I’m pretty sure that we’ve eaten at least 1, and usually 2, recipes from your book every day for the last week. Today is meal planning day for next week so that I can grocery shop tomorrow and your book is the only one I’ve grabbed so far this morning. Looking forward to another great week of eating!

  498. Kimberly says:

Congratulations Mama Pea! I am so happy for and proud of you! You’re an inspiration to your readers and your little girls alike!
    Keep up the beautiful work!!!!

  499. Erin says:

Hi Mama Pea! Congratulations! I have been following your blog for almost a year now and you have really taught me a lot about vegan/vegetarian cooking. I have a half written email to you that I can’t seem to finish, so I figured I would sieze the opportunity here. I preordered your cookbook, and when it came in I had my boyfriend flip through it to pick out recipes he thought looked good (he is omnivore, I am vegetarian, and am tired of cooking 2 meals every night). He picked the Chipotle Lime Tempeh Tacos. Knowing he isn’t crazy about tofu and figuring he would have a similar opinion of tempeh, I decided to make them anyway. Turns out Andrew picked that recipe not because he had any idea what tempeh is, but because he thought it said Tempe, as in Arizona, and they would be Arizona-style tacos (whatever that would be – I asked and he didn’t know either). And despite the fact that tempeh is closer to tofu than Arizona, he loved them! He wants me to make them again this week! We have also branched out to the Meditteranean Meatballs and, of course, the crack wrap was a big hit. Thanks very much for opening Andrew up to more meatless meals – it is making my life so much easier.

  500. Andrea P says:

Congrats! That is such an accomplishment. I haven’t got the book yet, but I’ve got a birthday coming up and have been dropping hints =)

  501. Janelle says:

Congrats! It’s probably just as big of an accomplishment that you were able to “give up control” for ten days before the big news (well, it would be for me!)

As for the giveaway, my best friend hinted that she might have gotten me a copy for my birthday… which is still two weeks away! I’m dying to read, laugh, cook, bake, and share wonderful new things with my family!

  502. Jennifer says:

SO I found your blog a few weeks ago, CONGRATS on the NY Best Seller! I am on a quest to get myself and husband healthy and one way is including many more meatless meals (wow that’s lots of M’s) into our weekly routine. I try to make healthy and delicious meals at home and hope he makes wise decisions when he is out. He’s a cop, he works 3rd a lot and there are often not good options at 3am. I have packed food, provided the good stuff for him to bring, but it all to often went uneaten.

I have been meaning to buy your book and plan to do so soon!

ALSO – I have been on a quest to find Nutritional Yeast for the MMMM sauce. My local groceries have an organic/health section but not that. I plan on hitting up Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods this weekend (they are about 30 minutes away). I can’t wait to make that sauce and those dough balls!

Congrats. (wow this was a long comment for my first time).

I have to say I had confidence from the beginning. You have a wonderful talent, and even with a ton of sarcasm, draw people to you (I mean this as a compliment).
Pea Daddy and the girls are lucky to have you (and I know they know that)…maybe Pea Daddy could GET lucky…who knows, it’s a lot of pressure to be with a New York Times Best Selling author (just had to say it again).
    Congratulations on everything!

  554. Dona says:

I love your blog for the food and your funny stories! I am a brand new vegan and I love eating this way. I liked the fact that you say it’s okay not to be so rigid. I went to a friend’s house last night for a great taco dinner. She didn’t know that I had recently brome vegan and I hadn’t brought refried beans. I didn’t want to make a big deal, so I put a little bit of taco meat in the tortilla, loaded it with veggies, left off the cheese and dug in! I realized I can make good healthy choices, eat responsibly and not be so uptight about all of it. Thanks and please send me those cookies!! Please :-)

  555. Samantha says:

    yay mamma pea!!!! congrats!!!

  556. Hooray!! You have worked so hard. So excited for you. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, humor, life, and recipes with us!

I got your book last week, but unfortunately I’ve been traveling so much I haven’t even gotten a chance to make anything. I think I’m going to take it home with me this weekend and make something for my family. My sister is the only vegetarian in the family, but my mom and brother-in-law will try anything. Any suggestions for something safe to make for a VERY picky dad.

  558. Molly says:

Congrats! I just started to read your blog about 2 months ago and I love your sense of humor. I hope I can have your mind set when I’m a mama pea someday : ) Until then, more dough balls to share with my nieces.

  559. Christie says:

Congrats!! Although, I’m not surprised considering we just got the book a couple weeks ago and I am NOT ashamed to say we have had Lulu’s mac and cheese several times as well as Crack Wraps and Tortilla Pinwheels…makings for Thai Veggie Burgers in the fridge. We love it!!!

He and Pea Daddy should start a club!!
By the way… Tony is NOT getting an iPad anytime soon! Ha!

I jump up and throw up the pillow to find….nothing. Then the pillow falls back down and hits me on the head, as if mocking my excitement. :D I wonder if I write my wish on a dry erase board and leave it, the book fairy will really come?! :D

Congratulations Mama Pea! I love the book…it’s the first thing I owned that actually moved me to write a (glowing) review on Amazon. It’s come along at a perfect time for this “baby vegetarian” (2 weeks today!)
    THANK YOU!

  651. I honestly just got a little teary eyed when I got to your news. I am SO PROUD OF YOU and not surprised. You’re fabulous! And I adore you (and now I sound creepy). I was going to comment on your blog today anyway to tell you the most random thing — my husband, out of nowhere this morning says, “Hey, did you see that part in that Peas cookbook about nursing? Reminded me of E. (our daughter)”

I don’t know if it’s weirder that of all the things in the book he chose to tell me about the nursing section or that he’s secretly reading Peas and Thank You. Better than Playboy, right?

Congrats again!!! I think I’ll make a Mama Pea recipe tonight to celebrate you.

  652. Kim W. from Texas says:

Congrats on being a NYT Best Seller! What a milestone for you! Thank you for sharing your favorites with us. I must try the PB dough balls!

My husband and I both loved it, and there were lots of leftovers, so I had delicious enchiladas and quinoa for the past three days for lunch…and I’m not sick of it yet! Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge in such a relatable and entertaining way; it has definitely inspired me, and (apparently!) countless others.

  708. Ryane says:

    Ok… Two things:

Thanks! Congrats on meeting your goal!

    Jill

  722. Monica says:

Oh MammaPea! I am so proud of you! You may not know this, but you are my vegan older sister (in my mind and dreams!). I rarely comment but that doesn’t mean I love you any less. See, I am too busy cooking the recipeas to let you know how FAB-U-LOUS they are! You never fail with your advice and your recipeas never left me down! Last night I made your One Chin Brownies. They were divine! And I still am fit (half a batch later!). I also make your healthy recipeas too (salads, tamale pie, soups, etc.). I love how you are all about balance (as long as you even things out with a doughball)!. See, I pass on all your wisdom to my little vegan sis and look like a genious. She reads the blog but hates cooking. I change her life by testing many of your recipeas and telling her the ones that SHE MUST TRY (okay, so it is all of your recipeas). So this is win win for both of us! I have one chin and look like a genious and my sister only has to cook the best recipeas! It would really confirm our sisterhood if I didn’t have to cook my own batch of doughballs ;) THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

  723. Mae Bryan says:

Congrats! I bought 2 copies of the book (one for me and one as a gift for a friend), and I love your blog and recipes! I made the mmm sauce and loved it, and there are so many recipes I want to try. I guess I’ll have to make them all!

  725. Rachel says:

  805. Lauren says:

LOVE THE BOOK….Can’t wait to try more recipes. DOUGH BALLS!

  806. Rock it, Mama Pea! You so deserve this!

I made the Tempeh Tamale Pie last night for dinner and it took me a few bites to decide if I liked it or not (never been a fan of tempeh) but I DID like it. Yum. My husband, wasn’t so sure, though. I didn’t tell him it was tempeh and not meat, and he said “it’s okay, but it has a strange flavor, what spice did you use?” Haha!

  807. Molly G. says:

We’ve been having a Peas and Thank You dinner menu all week. We tried the Tamale Pie, Zuchinni Quinoa Lasagna and the Strawberry Mango Chickpea salad and Anytime Cookies. All of the dishes have been soooo GOOD!!!! Thank you for inspiring me in the kitchen and congratulations for being a NY Times Best Seller. Whooo Hooo!!!!!

  808. Paige says:

Congrats! My husband bought your book for me for my birthday a couple weeks ago, but if I won, I’d totally give the second one away to share the love (keeping the dough balls to myself, of course!)

  809. Kaleigh says:

Congratulations! I still need to pick up a copy of the book – I didn’t see it at my Costco yesterday!!!

Happy to see that all of your hard work has really paid off! Love it when that happens to good people.

  810. Rachel says:

The other night I made the Mmmm sauce for the first time (with the Southwestern Quesadillas) … yeah, I’m hooked!

Congrats on the NY Times Best Sellers List!

  811. Kathryn P says:

I stumbled across your blog a few week ago right before the release of your book. I got your book and it has inspired me to try and eat better for me and my family – I am loving your tips for getting your husband on board. . . he love his meat so I have my work cut out for me! Thanks for being an inspiration!

Congratulations on making the New York TImes Bestseller List! You deserve it!! :)

  813. Jill in Chicago says:

Congrats! I’m so happy for you (and for plant-based diets everywhere!) HURRAH!!!!!!

  814. Shelby says:

Congratulations! That is so amazing, and I’m proud to say that I contributed! I have loved reading the book but have unfortunately not had much time to cook from it given my ridiculous work schedule of late (as a former lawyer, I feel you can relate!). I will definitely be diving in once the summer is over and am so excited!

  815. Kate says:

That’s so exciting, makes all of your hard work worth it just to see your book in print, let alone on NYT Best Seller list!

    Congrats…and here’s to hoping there’s a book 2 in the works?

  816. Kate says:

Congratulations on making the best seller list! Your dough balls are by far my favorite recipe from the blog!

  817. Laura says:

CONGRATULATIONS! I am in love with Peas & Thank You! Your cookbook has been a blessing in our home and to numerous others because all I want to do is talk about how much I love it! I am so smitten, I don’ think I even need to cook the recipes, lol. But, we are. Since Saturday, we’ve made Lemon Raspberry Pie, a Hugh Jass Salad, apple cinnamon pancakes, and the Spanish Quinoa (which I craved so much yesterday, I had it for breakfast!!). I am thankful my first quinoa experience was great. And, last night, a friend and I made the PB&J muffins and chocolate covered cherry green smoothie. She’s taking the leftovers to her kids and a newfound love of cooking healthy. Her kids love smoothies and will now get the extra (hidden) benefit of spinach. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love to cook again!

  818. Allison says:

Congratulations!! That is an amazing accomplishment and well-deserved! :)

    • Allison says:

I forgot to tell you that I made your black bean burgers and the chickpea salad with cinnamon vinaigrette and they were AWESOME!!!!!!! Thank you!

  819. Congratulations on such an incredible accomplishment!

  820. Liz says:

I’ve never thought to use tempeh in a tamale pie! how genius! I’m so glad your book is being well received! and.. pick me! pick me! pretty pretty please. :) although, i think Rachel’s comment is pretty funny… :)

  821. Amanda M says:

Congratulations on your accomplishment! You deserve every bit of recognition and honor you receive. I have made several recipes from both your book and your blog, and they were all DELICIOUS! Thank you for providing great recipes that are affordable, healthy, and not too intimidating– as a grad student on a budget with little cooking skills, you have been a great help to me. Congrats again, Miss NY Times Best Seller! May you have many more weeks on top (of the list, obviously).

  822. Kerri says:

    CONGRATS!!! That’s awesome!

  823. Aly says:

  826. Elyssa says:

    Congrats! Loooove the blog

  827. Jenny says:

All your dessert recipes are winners, honestly, but… your Kale Sunshine Salad is G-O-L-D-E-N. Simple but so incredibly delicious. I never knew I could crave raw kale, either. And your Carrot Ginger Soup is also, as you’ve already stated, golden… Liquid gold. I guess that makes the kale salad solid gold. In leafy green form. Does that make sense?

Congratulations on making the best seller list!! You KNOW you absolutely deserve it. Wow, though – what an outstanding accomplishment. Will there be a ‘Peas and Thank You II’ in the making? I would buy it. I know I’m not alone when I say that.

  828. Amanda Mae says:

Congratulations! I am so excited for you! I bought your book immediately after seeing you in Seattle on New Day Northwest. I absolutely love your book!! The stories from it as well as your blog are awesome. I enjoy reading about your family and your witty, sarcastic humor :) Congratulations again, and thank you for creating this super amazing book!

Congrats! And thanks for sharing your yummy ideas :)

  830. beCcA bundY says:

A way to eat a cookie that tastes like dough!! I have been a faithful reader ever since! And, I would not complain if I received some of those pieces of heaven in the mail. Not to mention it’s my 30th birthday this week. Oh, and my 5 year anniversary. No big deal. NYT Bestseller list: now THAT is a big deal! Congratulations!

  831. maija says:

  841. Marie says:

Congratulations! I’ve been reading the blog since the beginning of summer and have made quite a few of your recipes. All of them have been delicious! My favorite is one that never gets mentioned as it’s from an older post, but the Meaty Vegan Green Bean Casserole is delicious (i leave out the tofurky) and waaay healthier than the original. Thanks for showing me how to cook hearty veggie meals that don’t use pasta and rice as a base!

  842. You totally deserve it! Congrats!!!!!!! I would love to try some “Official” Mama Pea Cookie Dough Balls!!!

  843. RH says:

And since my first stop at your blog, I can’t stop obsessively checking for new posts from you :) I just received my book from Amazon yesterday and stayed up way too late reading. Packed it in my work bag today to sneak some more reading in…excited to try more recipes and and share them with my friends!

  849. Katie G says:

I just got the book in the mail last week, and am making my first recipe from it this weekend since my beach trip is cancelled due to the hurricane on the east coast (sad but happy to have some much needed down time at home!) I am so excited about all of the recipes that I can’t pick one to start with…any suggestions? (something easy that my meat eating boyfriend will like)

  850. Amanda says:

    Congratulations!! Whoot-whoot!

  851. Neena says:

    Congratulations to you!!! Well done!

  852. Laura says:

I got a little choked up reading about your news! Congratulations from one recovering attorney to another!

P.s., I recently hired a sitter for my sons, and when she first started working for me, she asked about my being vegetarian. (I guess all those vegan cookbooks on the counter were a tip-off.) She told me that she ate meat at every meal. Anyway, I didn’t try to hard-sell her on vegetarianism, but just explained why I do it and feel good about it.

And you know, this morning she told me that she’s doing Meatless Mondays now! The power of a positive example, I hope. :)

  853. Toby says:

Yay!! I received my copy of your book on Monday and made the black bean burgers that night. They were delicious eaten as a burger and crumbled on top of my salad the next day.

I’m sure it’ll be a dessert that I make next – probably tonight. :) And then something with chickpeas since I have a ton of them and their one of my favorite foods. Good thing because I have a 25 pound bag of them.

  854. Jenn says:

Congratulations! You deserve it – your book is awesome. I have been making your recipes for about three weeks now and my boyfriend still hasn’t caught on to the fact that they are all vegan – he is too busy scarfing them down! Thank you for helping me transform his diet!

  855. Michelle says:

    Congratulations! What an accomplishment!

  856. Rachel says:

The book is my favorite cookbook ever, and I own a ton. You rock!

  860. Michaela says:

Who knew eating better was so popular? I guess you did.

  861. Christine K says:

I’ve been a pescetarian for a number of years but eat mostly vegetarian meals still (was for 5 yrs out of high school). I found you kind of serendipitously as my boyfriend recently gifted me a Nook for my b-day. It was on their Unbound blog that I found you! I love YOUR blog and the photos have me drooling. Now all I’ve got to do is decide between the tangible or nookbook and HOPE my stepdaughter can someday love tofu! Your daughters have given me hope :D

So far I’ve made the apple-cinnamon pancakes, the zucchini bread, the blueberry muffins, banana bread, (you think I like to bake?), the thai crunch salad, the hummus (amazing…my kids ate it in less than an hour), and today I’m trying the black bean burgers! Bucket liiiist! Congrats, Sarah! I hope one of these times I will win some of your dough balls because they dont seem to come out like the pictures when I make them–they are crumbly and dry and are missing the right dough texture. Perhaps you will come to SF in November armed with (a couple?) batches? I will throw a party in your honor if you do.

  941. Kerri says:

I know you’re so proud; and you should be. Congratulations!

  942. Kathy Black says:

Congratulations Sarah! It’s great to be a witness to your journey, and to be inspired by your dream. Thank YOU for sharing your culinary creativity, your humor and this long-running peek into your first love: your family. Well done.

  943. Maggie says:

Congratulations! I just bought the book and cooked chickpeas and dumplings for my fiance, which we both loved!! It was a major plus to be able to cook it on the stove top, since the North Carolina summers are quite toasty when you’re environmentalists without air conditioning. My fiance is the vegetarian who converted me, yet he lived mainly on granola bars until I began experimenting with man-friendly meatless recipe(a)s. I’m excited to try more from the book!

  944. Danielle says:

Woohoo!!! I would love love love to be one of the people adding to your sales but unfortunately I just don’t have the money to buy it at all :( I would love the chance to win it!!!

  945. Rachel W. says:

I just got my copy of your book today! I was actually planning on making those peanut butter balls, but if the NYT best-selling author HERSELF could possibly make them FOR me…I’d take it.

  946. Shannon says:

Congratulations…I am loving my cook book. I would love to win a copy and share it with a Peas and Thank You Newbie…but not my autographed New York Times Best Seller Copy…I will share the one that is already dog-eared and broken in…is that rude :-) ?

  947. I totally agree…the Thai Crunch Salad is worth shelling out the price of the book for that 1 recipe…yum!

  948. Bridget says:

You’ve given me the courage to try cooking with tempeh, and to admit that sometimes it’s ok to be a control freak :)

The Oregonian article on your book appeared the same day our vegan exchange student from Germany arrived — I went out and bought a copy and really like it. I learned about TofuXpress from you ….but am dismayed that it is NOT BPA-free plastic. Argh.
