Peas in Print
I’m deliriously tired.
Today was quite exciting and fun with our book release, but I really just kept thinking about the pint of blueberries waiting for me in the fridge and how badly I needed to use them before they went bad. Which is exactly what you should be thinking about on a day like today.
I told you I was delirious.
The good news is, when you are delirious. everything is funny.
Today, we found our book. And with the blessing of a helpful employee, we moved it.
And I wrote all over it.
I think technically, this is my first signing, though the only participants were me, Pea Daddy and the security guard who was giving us the stink eye. Of course that could have been because the girls were manhandling all the Smurfs merchandise, oblivious to any other release going on this week.
So we moved the book to a display table instead of it’s previous home next to Paula Deen. Though I love Miss Paula, she’s not exactly the same genre as the Peas.
But that’s not to say she doesn’t have an unbelievable English Peas recipe.
You must have it:
- 1/2 stick (1/4 c.) of butter
- 2 cans of English peas
Pealightful, right? It gets better. The best part of this recipe? The reviews.
One of my favorites:
The way I’m reading “1/4 cup” butter, that’s 1 to 4 cups right? No sense letting the peas dominate the flavor of this wonderful soup.
And another:
Just tried this recipe and found it a little more buttery than I normally prefer.
edit: just looked at the recipe again and realized I forgot to add the peas.
There are many, many more. My sides hurt from laughing.
I’m still thinking of how to healthify this recipe. I won’t sleep until I do.
That’s a lie. I’m half asleep right now.
Wait, I’ve got it…leave out the butter! And the “canned.” Perfect.
This is my seamless segue to talk about reviews. You see, sometimes they make all the difference in the world.
And that’s why if you found our book in stores today like us, or if you received your copy in the mail, we’d love it if you could go to one of the major online retailers selling the book and write your reviews.
I promise, first thing in the morning, I’ll be back in the kitchen. Though there won’t be butter, there’ll be your usual dose of Peas.
And I’ve got some blueberries that need used.

Amazon says my copy isn’t going to be shipped until August fiiiiiiiiiiiirst (whiny voice). I pea-ordered! Why are they DO-ing this to me?
I’m not sure why, Jess. I’m sorry!
Congrats! It must feel great to see your book in store. I never thought that Gigi and Lulu were so into the Smurfs?
My book is supposed to arrive on the 5th. It’s going to be a long, sad 9 days….
I see it as available and ready to ship. Maybe you should cancel your previous order and place a new one? I ordered mine on Sunday and got it yesterday morning!
I ordered mine on Amazon on July 17th and it says expected delivery date is August 1st – August 5th as well. I was wondering how so many people had a copy already (who didn’t win an advanced copy) from amazon.
I’m trying to get answers to these questions for you guys. I know it has to do with supply and demand, but I’m trying to see what’s going on for sure. I’ll keep you posted!
I pre-ordered mine in MARCH and it said August 1 – 5th too but just I got an email yesterday saying it shipped, expected to arrive July 29th. Better than August but I figured pre-ordering early enough would have meant we got it sooner … first to pre-order first to get it kind of thing. Either way, I am excited it is on its way!!!
Ha! I am gloating over here because MY copy from Amazon is on it’s way!!
Sooooo happy for you!! Huge congrats!!
Thank you Jess!
Squeee! Can’t wait for mine!! Remember back in the day, when you told us about your book deal and while I was happy for you, I couldn’ help but be selfish and lament that this was the end of your great blog. (Most of the others I enjoyed reading got book deals and vanished.) You said you wouldn’t and you didn’t so THANK YOU! Thanks for sharing your recipes and your sweet girls and your wicked sense of humor!!
I don’t make promises I can’t keep! Thanks so much for all your unwavering support, Michelle.
Although my copy won’t arrive in my hands for a good week (free shipping + holiday week = slow mail delivery), I did get the chance to thumb through the book at the store today (and tweeted the pic for your viewing pleasure). Love the design and layout – if there is one thing I need in a cookbook besides awesome recipes its a pleasing design. Or should I say “peasing” design?
Thank you, Marianne. I love a good pun and a nice comment. You’ve provided me with both.
bahahah i am dying at those comments.. “When I attempted to make this, my peas didn’t turn out English like the recipe called for. Instead, they started speaking Spanish. Can I still eat them?”
congrats on the book, can’t wait to get it!!
I needed some senseless giggles tonight. Glad you could share in them with me.
I am SO so happy for you guys! Your family is my hero
The comments about the pea recipe are hilarious. I’m so excited and happy for you. My copy should be here tomorrow. Woo hoo! I can’t wait! How do you become a part of the virtual book tour? Hope you’re getting some sleep!
My publisher chose 5 blogs to participate in the tour, that will be going on the rest of this week. Can’t wait to hear what you think of the book! Off to bed I go.
Amazon just told me that my copy won’t arrive before August 9th! Guess shipping the book to Europe takes a while. Can’t wait to get my hands on it! I promise to leave a review as soon as I get to read it.
Wedged right between Ani Phyo and Nigella Lawson? Yo!
Your guns? Yo!
The Pea Recipe? OMG so hilarious….thank you for sharing the giggles
Rest well, Mama.
So I walked into a BN today (our poor tigard borders!) and your book was no where to be found! I put the lady on a wild goose chase to find it and it was in the wrong spot! I asked her to move it to the “nice” display or with the vegetarian cookbooks and she happily moved them for me
Love the book!
Which B&N did you go to? We went to Lloyd Center (there are 10 autographed copies there, if anyone wants them) and the one at Jantzen Beach (who was still waiting for it to arrive). Thank you so much for getting us good placement. You rock!
I got to OSU, and am home in San Diego for the summer, so I was at a B&N down here. Now I wish I was up at Lloyd Center to grab one of those. They said your shipment had just arrived on the 25th.
I live in San Diego! I’ll go give ‘em hell too if need be
Thanks for the info, Britt. When you come this way again and want me to sign your copy, I will!
Wow I can’t imagine the excitement of seeing your very own book for sale in a bookshop!
Your sales must be good, I got an email from Amazon.ca today telling me my copy of the book was delayed, I hope that means you’re ultra popular!
I’m looking into this for you, Rach. I want you to have your Peas NOW!!!
I read Jenna’s review and her jambalaya meal that she fed Adam yesterday on her blog. I was laughing and smiling when she said she wrote to you needing urgent help for her BBQ eating Texan boyfriend to try to get him to eat more plant based meals…and then your recipe was so perfect for them. It was a great story! And the jambalaya looked soo good!
And I read Kath’s review. And I bet you sent copies to a few others and I’m sure I’ll see those too…I can’t wait!
I would have loved to review it but now I need to just go out and buy my copy
“but I really just kept thinking about the pint of blueberries waiting for me in the fridge and how badly I needed to use them before they went bad. “—
THAT is so ME! 100%. I am doing something super important and ill be all worried about the overripe bananas and what i should do with them later. lol
Oh yes, would love for you to track down a copy! I think you’d enjoy it, Ave.
OMG! I just got my copy in the mail and am drooling all over the pages!! I am especially excited to try the Hugh Jass Salad, cause that’s just funny right there, I don’t care who you are!! OK, so I stole that line, but when I read the recipe I burst out laughing which startled my snoring on the couch husband and distracted my baby girl from Elmo!!
Anyway, congrats on the book and I can’t wait to start digging into these recipes!!
Wonderful! Thanks so much. I am so happy you’ve had a laugh and are going to eat a Hugh Jass now.
this si so exciting!! I am honored just to “know” you and your sweet family. I need to go to our Austin B&N and take a picture for you.
I’d love that! Thanks, Linds!
Wooohooo! I bet the girls were excited to go to B&B and see the book there! I like that you signed them and moved them ; )
I actually went to my B&B last night and was beyond excited to see the book, it was just an awesome feeling to know the person who worked so hard and put her love, sweat, tears, and yummy recipe skills all into a wonderful book!
I was blown away by how AMAZING the book turned out, just all the stories you gave along with the recipes, and I loved the dedication in the beginning to Gigi and Lulu, that made my heart melt, that is something they will cherish forever!
Congrats again! The book is amazing Sarah! You should be so proud!
love you!
You found it! Yay!!!
I came home from vacation last night to THE BOOK sitting on the porch. I dropped my suitcase and took it to bed. I LOOOOVE it! It is everything wonderful about you, your family, your blog, and your recipes bound together gorgeously. I am so excited for you and so thrilled about cooking up a storm. Hip hip hooray for Peas!
Thanks Rebecca! So glad you are lovin’ it!
All I have to say is YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats!
I was the editorial assistant of a hardcover (sports) book that came out in Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc. a few years ago and I have no shame in saying that I spent entirely too much time going to those bookstores just to see it on the shelves. It was small, small peas compared to this huge release and accomplishment though, and I am so happy for your success.
If I cooked for more than just me, I would totally buy it
Thanks, Abby. I’ll be sad if you don’t get a copy. With your snark and sass, you NEED one.
It’s my birthday on Monday, so it’s possible I might make my mom buy me one when we go shopping. She won’t believe that I’m making something other than big chickpea/rice bowls and avocado sandwiches, but if I tell her I’m buying it for the pretty pictures, she might just spring for it. Yay!
Here’s hoping Mom will kick down!
Happy birthday!!!
It gotta be an amazing feeling to see your own book at the store!
Can’t wait to get my copy!
Ana
I’m just so, so happy for you. What an amazing, surreal experience this must be! I know I have said this over and over but it is SO well deserved. Enjoy every moment of this! Can’t wait to be leafing through my copy!!
Thanks, Cait!
Ordered my book yesterday..Glad to support you instead of HP for all the paper and ink I use to print out the recipes!
On a side note, I made the zucchini quinoa lasagna yesterday…it tasted great, but for some strange reason I couldn’t figure it out…where do I put the 3rd layer of zucchini? I am poor at reading instructions, but I am going to blame it on my daughter who flipped herself over about 13 times the night before and required assistance to get back to her usual sleeping position! I swear I read and reread it, but I was confused (which is typical for me).
I’ll have to take a look but there should be a layer of zucchini that goes right on top and then is covered again with a bit of sauce and “cheese.”
that is so awesome your family must be so proud!!!
great and awesome book but it had to be your blog is great and awesome, my girls are like we know who mama pea is!
Smurfs that is so funny! my girls were all over the smurf stuff to we got the chapter book
I bought your book yesterday, and can I just say, I couldn’t put it down! People don’t often say that about a cookbook! Funny, touching and so many recipes that I want to make right now. Great job
Yay! Such kind words. Thank you Andrea!
I can not wait to get my copy! This is such an incredible accomplishment for you girl!
i love how much you love that paula dean recipe! hahahaha…i’m laughing just from the thought of you cracking up so hard!
Honestly, I had to post it here after you reminded me of it yesterday. It was too good not to mention.
Lol I love the comments on the Paula Dean peas! Congrats on a super successful launch day!
You must have been pinching yourself at that bookstore! So exciting!
If I mail you my copy can Gigi and Lulu autograph it ?
Sure! Though it will be in crayon and smell like pickles.
Ahh nice placing next to Nigella Lawson, another hot mama! Well done you!
Eagerly awaiting my book……. ordered here in England!
I love Nigella. Love. HER. Thanks for your order!
Just ordered your book! So excited to read it and cook from it this weekend
Thanks, Laura!
Oh lucky! Autographed copies!
Congrats again Mama Pea!
Did u faint when u saw your books in the bookstore?
I would faint for u if I see them in any of the bookstores here in the island. Soooooo excited to get my copy!
I didn’t faint, but I was pretty excited. Hope you can get a copy soon!
I went to my B & N yesterday and asked for the book, the sweet lady told me it had just arrived yesterday and had not yet been put on the shelves. I told her I had no problem waiting so she went to the back, found the box and brought the stack out. I was on my lunch break from work, and it was ABSOLUTELY worth being late coming back for all so I could get a copy of your book. I read the first 100 pages last night and the stories, recipeas and humor are wonderful as always. This is all my long way of saying fantastic job! Your hard work shows and is much appreciated!
Maureen, thanks so much for going to the extra trouble to get the book and getting it out there so others can get it now too. You sweet, sweet lady. I very much appreciate YOU!
I commented on Twitter, but I’ll say here for you to see- I ordered the book off Amazon AND I ordered a donut pan (free shipping, score!) so it’s a win-win situation! Not sure when it will ship but I am looking forward to it and I know a 5 star (or 5 peas) review is forthcoming!
Hoooooray! Thanks Missy. I see lots of yummy donuts in your future…
yay congrats!!!!!!!!!!!! How exciting to see it in stores and print
we are so proud! We can’t wait to get ours!!! xoxo
Thanks, ladies.
Yay! I actually came home after an awful day at work and even worst time at the dentist to find your book sitting on my doorsteps! I was so excited!!! I read it cover to cover last night and began flagging recipes that I wanted to try only to realize I was flagging every page and that seemed pretty pointless! Can’t wait to dig in.
Oh and I LOVE all your stories in there… makes reading a cookbook that much more fun
I have to tell you though my favorites are when you talk about LuLu’s blanket… I must admit I had my blankie until the day I got married! My grandma made it for me on my first birthday and on my 16th birthday she recovered it for me. I slept with it the night before my wedding then they pried it out of my hands the following morning. My mom actually sewed a piece of it into my wedding dress for my something old. I loved my blankie and also hated when it had to get washed!
Congrats on all your wonderful acomplishments I am very impressed and inspired by you!
Thanks, Katie. I’m glad you enjoyed the “revealing” personal side of the book too. I think that’s what makes us Peas real (and in my opinion, loveable!). Have a wonderful day!
I’m so excited for you! I heard the book already sold out on Amazon!? That’s amazing. I can’t wait for the Peas to become a household name <3
I’m not sure it sold out (copies are still available!), but we are doing great. Thanks!
My copy better be on my doorstep tonight or I’ll have to stalk the UPS man. And that just won’t be pretty.
I hope for his sake it’s there!
Congrats! It’s excellent! I will write an Amazon review today.
What I like most about the Paula Deen recipe is that it was actually featured on an episode…
Thank you so much, Andrea. (must track down that episode…)
I received my pre-ordered copy from Amazon yesterday! Can’t wait to get cracking with it this weekend!
Yay! Can’t wait to hear what you think, Elisabeth!
i love paula deen, the best are her sweet potato balls: http://www.foodnetwork.com/videos/stuffed-sweet-potato-balls-video/28568.html
best way to get kids to eat veggies: stuff a marshmallow in it and roll it in sugar, DUH. oh, and don’t over bake the balls
Ha ha ha. So great.
oh! and congrats on the book release!!!
I’m so excited to get your book in the mail! I ordered it yesterday from Amazon! Thank goodness for Amazon Prime – I’m supposed to be getting it tomorrow the latest! Wow. That’s a lot of exclamation points. Lol.
Congrats again on your book release!
Scratch that. Per UPS PaTY is out for delivery already! (!!!!!!)
YAYYYYY!!!!
I brought my poor crippled (temporarily) husband home from his x-ray and MRI to find an Amazon box waiting between the front and storm doors. I actually pushed him out of the way to get to it. For no good reason – it was a different order. What a cruel tease… the UPS guy had better get it right today!!!
I feel horrible that I am laughing hysterically at this (not the part about the wrong order). Maybe you can make your hubby something from the book when you get it to make it up to him?
Got my yesterday via UPS from Amazon, haven’t made it all the way through yet, but I’m loving it! Makes me hungry just reading the recipes.
Wonderful! Thanks Jules!
My lunch plans involve going to B&N and getting your book! And if I happen to pass someone while I’m at B&N holding a backet full of books, I will inconspicuously slip a copy in their basket as well
That a girl! Let me know if you have trouble finding it. We’ve been shelved in some interesting places, so you may need to ask a clerk for help tracking us down!
ROFL @ “1-4 cups of butter.” Uhm yes.. try that.. my arteries hurt just thinking about that much butter. good grief. I read some of the other reviews. Wow.just.Wow –
My Mom saw my crazy-faced picture on my blog w/ your book- she asked about it.. I told her to check out your blog! Maybe she will!
Hope your first day of in-store sales was a huge success!
I hope she does, Jena. Hi Jena’s mom!!!
Half a stick of butter, oh Paula! She’s great, her food, however, is not..
What a great accomplishment!! That must have felt amazing sitting in the bookstore signing your own books!!! WOW….dream come true!!
It was pretty surreal…
I am seriously falling out of my chair laughing at the snarky reviews on that recipe. What a poor light to view peas in on such a happy Pea day!
Congratulations!! What an awesome day.
My favorite Paula moment was when she was a guest judge on Top Chef. Someone fried mayonaise and served it to her. Suffice to say, she loved it.
Get out! Fried mayonaise!!! I might have to fry vegenaise…
Congratulations!! The copy I’m giving a reader should be on its way to you, and mine should be on its way to me!!! I’ll absolutely write a review once I get it
Get some sleep, and not butter!
Thanks, Kaitlyn. Sleep? What’s that?
Congrats on the book — seriously what an exciting day!!!
Those reviews of Paula’s recipe are hysterical. They’ve had some other “recipes” like that on foodnetworkhumor.com that crack me up every time.
I needed a long hysterical laugh yesterday. And pea jokes always fill the gap.
CONGRATULATIONS MAMA! just got the note that my mondo order shipped – can’t wait to spread the Pea love!
p.s. after writing my giveaway post, i never realized how easy it was to make puns off the word pea. seriously, i can’t believe you don’t do it more often. it’s too easy!
<3 you friend
It is easy peasy! Thanks for all the support, darling!
CONGRATS on the new release!! I’m so excited for you! And, honestly, for me too, since I now get to read it…ha! Can’t wait, it looks *awesome*!
So excited for you to read it too, Sarah!
Congratulations! I’m a big advocate of reducing meat consumption, but it’s hard to convince people that eating meat-free can be both easy and tasty. Hopefully your book can help!
I absolutely think it can! Thanks for the congrats!
okay so i know where to get your book, but where can i get your arms? are they so buff from signing so many books?
<3 those reviews! lol!
So funny. I actually am loving lifting weights lately. Thanks for noticing!
Um, can I order a side of your arm muscles with a copy of the book please!? Very toned.
If I was you, I would have pulled a Carrie Bradshaw and also replaced a window display book with your book. hee hee Congrats. I cannot wait to get my copy. It finally shipped!
Oh you flatter me so. And by that I mean I do an insane amount of pushups
Thank you!
Oh, poor Paula. Those reviews were cruel, but hilarious. I love my peas, I’ve even eaten them in a pool of butter at my mother’s knee, but canning peas should be illegal–no pea deserves such treatment.
I picked up a copy of your book yesterday and perused last night. Looks great!! Can’t wait to try out some recipes this weekend.
Thanks, Kate!
Congratulations!!!! I cannot wait to get my copy.
And those reviews were freakin’ hilarious. Made my morning!!
Congratulations!!!! I cannot wait to get my copy.
And those reviews were freakin’ hilarious. Made my morning!!
haha omg those reviews are outrageous.
Congrats!!!
Preordered the book, Amazon says it’s IN TRANSIT and is now sitting in KY and won’t arrive on my doorstep until Saturday. ::cries:: At least it’s on it’s way!!
So excited for you and your family!! The Paula Deen recipe had me cracking up!! Not because of the amount of butter, but because that was EXACTLY how my mother cooked. ::giggles:: (God rest her soul…she would put butter in everything!)
While anxiously waiting for my book to arrive, last night I made your Tempeh BCT for the family. Hubby wasn’t a big fan, (because he really doesn’t like hummus) though did eat every bite, but the rest of the family LOVED and raved about it. My youngest son (22yo) liked it so much that he requested seconds!! (For me, that is the best form of compliment I could have!!)
My daughter and I are hitting our BN today to pick up your book for a friend. (And since mine still won’t be here for a few more days, I’m sure our friend won’t mind if her copy has been looked over to make sure it’s in good condition) Bwahahahaha
Yay! Thank you for the lovely feedback and glad your family (mostly) loved the sandwiches
Hope you are able to find copies and share them (read or unread, I won’t judge) with your friend!
Was grocery shopping yesterday and found it on a end cap and just had to get it!! Can’t wait to start using the recipes out of it : )
Loving the book. Every word, every page, every picture. I texted about every friend I had and told them that they had to order it. My one friend actually went and bought it, texting me afterwards saying, “I love it already! I want to make everything in it!” Then, “I love this lady! She is so awesome!”
Amen.
Thanks so much for sharing us with your friends! Love you!
Just saw a review of your book on Oh She Glows. I’m so glad I did, your book is going on my list of to buy!
The book looks amazing and I am always on the hunt for healthy meals for the family.
Thanks, Carolyn! Happy to have you on board
I went straight to the bookstore yesterday to get your book and managed to snag the only copy on the shelf. It’s a beautiful book, and I’ve already read the entire thing. I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve ever laughed out loud while reading a cookbook – my husband thought I was nuts! Can’t wait to try out the recipes – I’m just having trouble deciding what to try first! Congratulations – what a huge accomplishment!
So, so happy for you and your beautiful family! Congrats, Mama Pea!
Congrats a million and a half times Mama! And as a side note, you are lookin smokin! Check out your arms in the photo of you signing books! You look like the perfect balance if thin and fit. You are a walking example of a healthy vegan, and that speaks volumes, just like your book and your blog. Way to be such an amazing vegan ambassador! I hope you get some sleep…. As per usual, all I really have to say is, you rock hard Mama Pea
Welcome to the gun show.
(thanks, Ali)
YAAAY!! I will have my copy this week! So excited. Congratulations and thank you for playing an integral part in my quest to pass on healthy eating habits to my son. Since I’ve been reading your blog my vegan recipes have become more kid friendly. When I first made the switch to vegan, I’d make wonderfully healthy creations that were way over my son’s head. He would say “If this recipe were on Top Chef I know they would love it but I just don’t like that stuff.” (Flavors were too complicated for him and the dishes looked like fancy schmancy restaurant food) You taught me how to simplify and just take what he already loves and veganize it. I love seeing him eat “cheeseburgers” that are homemade and packed with protein and flax seed instead of grease and fat. So on behalf of my son, who doesn’t care much now, but his arteries will later–I say THANK YOU! If your shooting star ever lands you in the DC area, I will be the biggest Pea Geek in line at your signing!
YAY is right! Thank you so much Tonya. I love that your son loves his Peas. I will definitely keep the kid and man-friendly recipeas coming…we have to/get to eat this way too! (would love to come to DC!)
CONGRATS to you!!!! So exciting!!! & also, my fav review from poor ol’ Paula’s recipe site: “I didn’t have these exotic peas in my pantry, but I did have English muffins. Also saw I was low on butter but had some bags of butter lovers microwave popcorn. I put the muffins and the popcorn in the pot over med heat and served. WOW!! The flavor was splendid, though the texture was undesirable. For dessert I took 6 chocolate bars and warmed them slowly in a pan. I then poured the contents into bowl and let cool to room temp. LOL everyone thought they were eating chocolate bars. So yummy!! Thought I’d share one back Paula. Thank You!!” hahaha. Thank you for always making my day with your blog & for making my a.m. with that link! <3
I loved that one too
3 participants were at your book signing…”me, myself and I”…he he. How lucky for those buying your books at your local store, autographed copy!
I got the book yesterday, the same day I got my wedding pictures in the mail! What an exciting day indeed.
After browsing thru 1000+ wedding pictures, I brought your book to bed to read and thought I will just read a few pages and save the rest tomorrow. But no, I kept reading and reading. You have such funny stories and I love that you take the time to write each recipe with a back story. That’s what separates your book from other cookbooks I’ve read. Anyways, poor husband, had to wear my silk eye mask to bed
I know this is selfish to say…but I wish your book was thicker, so that the funny stories doesn’t end. I feel like I can read your book in a week.
Great job Mama Pea, I am impressed with the book and the quality of everything in it.
P.S. on my laptop screen, I can see smiley face right in the middle at the bottom of your blog home page.
I think that just means I need to get crackin’ on the next one! I’m so flattered and glad that you gave the feedback you did. I’ve wondered if the next book should be more recipes, less stories, or vice versa or whether we have a good balance, so your feedback is much appreciated!
YAY!!! Congrat’s on your first day as an official publisher! Ok, time to get to those blueberries
I’m just so excited for you, Sarah! But I’ll admit that what I’m really excited about is the opportunity for these recipes to get into the hands of people who really need them. When I first started following your blog way back in the “tummy” titled blog days, I thought vegetarian/vegan recipes would be bland, and hard to make…..you have really transformed the way my family eats.
I know I’ve told you this before, but it bears repeating, I’m a healthier person (as are my kids and husband) because of you and your family. We aren’t vegan, we’re not even vegetarian, but we eat fewer animal products, and you’ve inspired me time and time again to try new recipes even if they seem overwhelming.
To you, sweet lady, I say thank you, and congratulations. No one deserves this more than you.
Ali
My gosh, I can’t thank you enough for this. The strength of this book, I feel, is that it is so accessible to ANY family. You’ve proven that. I just love you for it. I hope you love the book and share it with families you know. We all could use a little Peas.
I tried ordering your book on Amazon.ca and it says that it will take 1-2 months to get here.
My publisher is on top of this, but I assure you, they have plenty of books in stock and it should NOT take that long for you to get your book! I will let you know as soon as I get absolute confirmation, but I hope this doesn’t deter you! You need your Peas!!!
Yay! I was going to hold off on ordering until they were in stock but I’m off to buy it now.
Did you know your book is #4 in the top 100 best selling books on Amazon for the past 15 days?
I’m happy with how we are doing, for sure! But of course want more people to know and love their Peas!
Can’t congratulate you enough!
Congrats congrats congrats!
such a wonderful thing
and paula deen = hilarious!
i hope you get some rest!
p.s. CONGRATS!
I can’t wait to get my copy! And try those english peas of course
I saw other comments mentioning how long they are having to wait for your book, Amazon must not have ordered enough? I just looked to see when mine was shipping and there was an estimated arrival day of August 22-26. I blinked a few times, thinking that couldn’t possibly be right. But nope, that’s what it says! I had postponed ordering it because I needed to wait until my husband’s next paycheck, but I had no idea that ordering it yesterday meant a month’s wait! At least I know it’ll be worth it in the end
I promise, it will NOT take that long and Amazon has lots of books in stock. I will update as soon as I have more info!
Congrats Mama Pea! I just ordered the book and can’t wait til it comes on Friday!!
So so excited to start making meals with my book! I actually just took a break from reading it, to read your blog. Then, I plan on finishing my review. Pea-sessed? I think so!
I can tell that you put all of your love and heart into this book. I feel like I can connect with you and your family which is why I keep reading.
Thanks Amanda. We were talking about you last night and how Andy said, “You’re crying? ALREADY?!!” It gave us a good laugh on the way home
Woohoo! Congrats! I’m so excited and happy for you! I can’t wait to get my copy in the mail!!!
I’m so happy that I pre-ordered back on July 16th, Amazon says it will be delivered today!!!!!!!
YAY!
Oooo, does this mean if I shop for a book in Portland, there will be signed copies!? Haha. (I’m sure they’ll be gone by then!). The book is even more awesome than I anticipated (which is saying something!). I feel like I need to pull a Julia and Julia and cook every single recipe in here! (Not to mention I still have a pile of recipeas from your blog to try.)
P.S. I love your hair straight, but it looks super cute curly too! I used to perm my hair in hopes of beautiful curls like you, Gigi, and my sister (grr…) have. You should wear it like that sometimes!
Thank you. I’m not sure how the curls would work with it so short now
If you go to the Lloyd Center Barnes & Noble in NE Portland, there will be 10 signed copies! (at least there was last night…)
Or, I could rent a car, drive to Salem, and wander the streets yelling, “Mama Pea! Mama Pea! Please sign my book!” That wouldn’t be weird at all…
I officially reviewed on Amazon; those are some pretty stellar reviews so far!
Also, I can’t believe I told you to do something with your hair after I haven’t had mine cut in 7 months. Yikes!!! I apologize.
Thank YOU for the review…I saw it and LOVED it, of course.
I am sorry this weekend has become crazy. I just called Pea Daddy to vent…I don’t think I’ll have time to meetup
Oh heavens. The fact that you would even consider meeting with a stranger from Chicago means a lot to me! And, it’s totally understandable that you’re busy! Just be sure to take some time to treat yourself to an almond joy cookie bar (or whatever delicious blueberry concoction you’ve come up with) and soak in all of the wonderful things in your life right now. Also, I haven’t been to Portland yet, but I’m 100% confident I’m going to love it and will want to visit again.
Woah this book release snuck up on me. I was anxiously awaiting so I had to put it out of my mind to not go crazy. Going to Amazon now to get my Peas on!!
Congrats!!
Thank you, Alison!!!
Awesome!! I’m a new reader and didn’t know you had a book! I’ll DEFINITELY be looking for it!
Thanks, Mary!
Just got my copy over my lunch break today – I can’t wait to read the whole thing and bookmark all the recipes I want to try!!!
Eeek, I’m so excited, my book should be here tomorrow
I’m so excited for you, I can only imagine how exciting this time is for you
And honestly, I never say eek so I must be really excited, haha.
I can’t imagine how magical it must have felt to walk in a bookstore and see YOUR BOOK!!
PS. you’re arms look amazing in that “book signing” picture!
Grrrr. (that’s me flexing right now)
I have a question. My husband is allergic to nuts and most seeds (including sunflower) and you have a few recipes that call for pureeing raw almonds, like the Mmmm sauce recipe. What could I use instead? I thought about using roasted soynuts but they are very strong tasting. Thank you!
I usually suggest substituting sunflower seeds, but that clearly isn’t an option. Hmm…I’m not sure roasted soynuts would grind up well enough to make the sauce smooth. You could try cutting back on the water/oil and adding part of an avocado for richness and creaminess that you lose without the nuts?
Just read your post on Williams & Sonoma (hey-oh, congrats on that exposure, too!!) & saw a lovely tomato on there
you’re the best, Sarah!
I hope those blueberries stayed fresh for ya!
You are going to love what I did with these blue babies.
I too have som blueberries that need to be used, I am thinking yogurt parfaits and Kohl. Because Kohl is my berry disposal!
I just found out my book will be delivered on Sat. Unfortunately I am leaving on Friday for the weekend, I wonder if I agree to meet them somewhere Friday can I get it early….great beach read!
Oh man, that’s rough! You’ll be so excited when you get home though!
I am a walking zombie today after a crazy few two days at work, but once I regain human capabilites, I will be finding your book. I have three days off to make as many Mama Pea recipes as possible!
Also, Congratulations again. I am so happy for you!! And selfishly, happy for me to finally have this book
the book turned out amazing. I love it and am 1/4 way through the recipes. I love the stories that accompany and the pictures. So far my favorite is the ballet picture of your girls. I am not kidding in saying that I want to be you and am so happy for you for your accomplishment! Going to write a review now.
Those are some of my favorite pics too. I appreciate your sincere well wishes and your review. You are the best!
HAHHAHAHA I love your spunk. I wish I wasn’t in the booneys so I could go out and buy it!!!
Hahahaha. I cannot believe those reviews!
I love the book, the recipes, photos, stories… you crack us up! A zillion congrats. I hope to get my book signed one day (one can dream, right). Even if that means that I will have to get away from Texas’ heat and fly out to Oregon.
Just left a comment on Amazon for your book – which I LOVE!!! I only got through to your “living room floor” poem (rap?) last night and can’t wait to read more. SO CUTE! Love – Love – Love your book! Congrats and continued success!
Thank you, Colette. I LOVED the review.
Congratulations on the book! I can’t wait to pick up a copy.
That recipe is precisely why I love Paula Dean. Take any object (doesn’t necessarily have to be food) and add butter. If you think you have added enough butter, double it. Eat with salt.
LOL
Only 1 copy left in stock on Amazon UK! Selling out fast. So pleased for you. I’m out of the country for 6 months so will have to get it when I get back. So jealous of everyone getting it now!
I tried to buy your book at Powell’s Books in Portland yesterday, but the guy at the help desk said it wasn’t due out till August 11th. I said, “Are you sure, because I read Mama Pea’s blog, and today is definitely THE day?!” and the guy looked at me like I was insane
Hahaha! I’ll be heading to another bookstore tonight, I can’t wait till the 11th!
Bummer. I really want to be in Powell’s! I’ll run it by my pub. (If you go to the Lloyd Center B&N there are some autographed copies…)
Oh no worries, I just figured everyone knew who Mama Pea was
He, cleary, did not! I will be making a stop at Lloyd Center tonight!!!
Congrats on being published! Just ordered my copy on amazon.
This is by far my favorite review of that recipe:
“It lacked something. I then realized Paula is from the South and must presume everyone knows grits or chitlling go with all recipes. Fortunately I’m cosmopolitan; I’ve been to the South. I added both grits and chitllings. It did take a little more than 10 minutes. My local grocer here did not have chitllings so I had a neighbor slaughter a pig and butcher same. I promised him some of the English peas. Thank you so much and keep up the good work”
Too funny.
Oh, Paula Deen. Why?! I think at this point, her heart must be running on butter. Like…it would stop if she DIDN’T eat it anymore. And tell that security guard to give someone else the stink eye. Your girls are foodie celebs now, they can mess with all the Smurf merchandise they want!
Just read this: http://foodnetworkhumor.com/2011/07/this-just-in-paula-deens-face-is-now-on-whole-chickens/
Someone might have already showed it to you, but it made me laugh!
I have been stalking my front door in hopes that my copy would be arriving. I heard the box hit my doorstep and rushed out to get it only to find out that it was a package for my roommate
Can’t wait to actually get my copy!
Ha! Hopefully tomorrow!
No! The links are sucking me in! I’m supposed to be working here but I can’t stop laughing at the comments on Paula’s “recipe.”
It’s a good thing your picture was right there on the cover. If I ever published something it would probably be just text, and I’d try to go in there and scribble over all the books and they’d call the cops :p Congrats!
Are there any signed copies in any of the bookstores in Salem? I’d love to pick up a copy in person and support the bookstores that are left!
Sadly, I have not been able to find it in Salem! We are supposed to potentially be in Costco, Fred Meyer and Safeway. I just got back from Fred Meyer and we aren’t there. Haven’t checked Costco or Safeway. But if you are able to get a copy and you are in Salem, I’d be happy to sign it for you!
I am heading to Costco at lunch today, so I’ll let you know if I find it!
Congratulations, Mama Pea! I can’t wait to see the book! That must have been awesome to walk into the store and see YOUR book. So cool.
Guess what I unexpectantly found in my local bookstore! A big stack of your books! Beautiful book! I love the stories that go along with the yummy recipes!
Hooray! Thanks Victoria!
I found your blog about 2 months ago…LOVE it! Your book arrived today…can’t wait to take a look & make some delicious food
Thanks so much for supporting us!
In Canada – and went specifically searching for your book today! Found it – and got it!! I’m still “new” to your blog – but this is so exciting and you are so deserving!! In awe.
Also – I assume your husband is completely vegan now as well then?
Have you ever written about the publishing/writing process?? That’s what fascinates me…but it seems IMPOSSIBLE to get a book agent/deal and such nowadays…did you contact a lot of people with a fully prepared proposal first??
God Bless You – and your peas
(Paula D. ain’t got nothing on you! My “Butter” of choice is “Hummus”!
– it spreads, it’s creamy….why not? )
Nope, Pea Daddy isn’t vegan. The family eats a small amount of organic dairy.
I haven’t written about the book process, but maybe I will, if you all are interested.
(and if you want to email me about your other question, feel free)
Thanks for getting the book and for all of your support. I’m totally with you on hummus.
I would love to read about your book-writing process!
Thanks, Jessica. Noted!
Hip, hip, hooray! Book day is finally here, my book will be in my little hands on Friday, and hopefully, you have gotten some much needed rest and all is right with your world.
Still so, so excited for you, and really wishing my copy on Friday was going to arrive signed.
Have a fantastic rest of your book release week!
Xo,
Erin
I got to woman-handle your book today. Sadly, after I drooled over and licked a few pages I had to put it back on the shelf until we have some extra money…but soon, very soon I will be able to buy my own copy. I don’t think I will drool on mine though, it makes it hard to read…
Aww, thanks Shannon. Lots of giveaways going on around the blogosphere…
I got my Kindle copy since I won’t get the mail delivered till next Monday. It took me two days to read it all while touring Disneys Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. I used any time in between shows, waiting on line, and sometimes read it during shows. I was like a kid in a candy store and couldn’t wIt to get to the next recipe just to read more of the great stories. So glad I splurged and also got the kindle copy. Now I’ll always have the recipes with me to check the ingredients when shopping. Thanks and congratulations.
Thanks, Mel! I’m so excited you took the Peas to Disneyworld with you!
Enjoy your trip!
I really feel sorry for myself for not come here before..never knew about this wonderful site, and you have a book release as well! Thanks for that lovely Tweet which brought me here. Need to browse the site more..and have to check out for my copy of your book. Congrats!
What a sweet comment! (curious, what Tweet brought you here?) So glad you found us too. Welcome!
Mama Pea,
your book sounds wonderful
I need to check to see if my BN carries it on Friday!
and can i just say, you have some amazing toned arms!
how do you do it?
Lots of pushups and bicep curls.
Thank you!
Yea, for the book! My husband watches Paula Dean all of the time. He loves her. Sometimes I question whether or not he would rather live with her for the food. I love her laugh, but not the food. Too much butter! I think I would be sick if I had her food.
Going to pick up the book today!
Thanks, Emily!
I don’t have mine yet. Either it is later in canada as everything is or the apple store is later.
Do u know?
Congrats to you!
Which copy of the book are you looking for, the ebook via Apple or a hard copy? Both are available NOW!
I pre ordered the apple ibook but I just checked back at the iBook app and it is scheduled the to arrive aug 1st
Hmmm…sometimes release dates aren’t truly “hard” dates and thus it may not be released on the exact date given. I hope you can wait until the 1st or maybe pick up a hard copy now!
Thanks for your support, either way!
wow, those look delicious.
Wow. All I could think when I saw this post was, “Look at those guns! I gotta search her site for her arm workout!”
Congratulations on the book. I picked it up yesterday and I’m sure I’ll be making a recipe and posting pictures soon!
Yay! Congratulation to you! I can not wait to get my copy in the mail, should not be too much longer.
Hope it’s soon!!!
If you think PD’s peas recipe is great, check out Rachel Ray’s “Late Night Bacon” recipes — the comments are even better than the peas!
I’m going to go look. Because that’s exactly what I need right now
what a wonderful accomplishment, you should be very proud!!
Excellent job. It looks beautiful.
Peace and Raw Health,
Elizabeth
Thanks, Elizabeth!
