Wacky Wednesday: Flipped Out (VIDEO)

IMG_1875-2

It really has been a Wacky Wednesday around these parts.

A “put your shoes on, we don’t have time to brush teeth, the pediatrician can get us in in ten minutes” Wednesday.

A back-to-back ballet practice Wednesday.

A Lulu crying during back-to-back ballet practices because she was the last in the grand jete line and she wanted to go first Wednesday.

A that stupid cat puked on the bed for the second time in 36 hours and I’m considering burning my duvet Wednesday.

A Pajama Day for Gigi at kindergarten Wednesday.

A Pajama Day for Mommy at the doctor, ballet and Target pharmacy Wednesday.  It’s quickly turning into Pajama Week.

But amidst all the wackiness, there were some high points.

-1

Peas and Thank You was voted one of Babble’s  2011’s Top 100 Mommy Food Blogs.  Thanks to those of you that nominated us for such a special honor.  I was especially excited to see that we placed #8 in the “Fun to Read” category, because if our lives are even half as fun to read about as they are to write about, then we must be doing something right.

Speaking of fun, we received a visit from my aunt yesterday, who brought her Flip video camera.  She wanted to take a video of Gigi showing off her new reading skills (and her new book light).  I wanted Pea Daddy to get a Kindle.  He bought a book light.  Probably with a Groupon.

As for Lulu, let’s just say she now wants a Flip video camera for her birthday.  And I’d like some earplugs.

Stay tuned until the 1:11 mark.

Flipped Out

Welcome to the soundtrack of our lives.

Bah bah pickle pickle.

And that’s why we’re #8.  And not #1.

  1. Congrats!! You totally deserve it, I look forward to reading all your posts :)

  2. Jessica says:

I just laughed so hard I’m pretty sure my neighbors heard me!

BTW go Gigi!! She did a great job!!

  3. Heidi says:

And Gigi seems very advanced for kindergarten — way to go mom!

  5. Ashley says:

    Congratulations!!! You definitely deserve it!

  6. hippierunner says:

Aww, so proud of Gigi! and Lulu sounds so cute! The baby I nanny has that voice right now and that is how he talked me into sharing my dark chocolate peanut butter with him!

  7. Mary says:

hahahaha minute 1:11 had me laughing so hard I was crying. And great job reading to Gigi! That is really so amazing to watch.

  9. Rivki Locker says:

  10. caronae says:

Gigi is an excellent reader. And LuLu is an excellent camerawoman.

  11. Sarah says:

Hahahaha!!! That was pretty funny :)

  12. Donna says:

    Congrats MamaPea!!!
Love the video, especially the song, what a little scene stealer
Hope your cough gets better, i’m of the “a cold equals imminent death”, kind as well and totally proud of it :)

  13. Ali says:

I just laughed so hard, my roommate came out to the common room because she thought I was crying…!

You make me want to be a mother, and eat more real/unprocessed/vegan food, and document my life.

But you don’t make me not want to be a lawyer. (I’m in law school.) :)

  14. Dorry says:

Hilarious! I love Gigi’s ability to tune her out there and continue reading. I love reading your blog, and I’m not surprised that so many other people do, too. Congrats!

  15. Ahhh sweet, tolerant Gigi…I used to do the same kind of thing to my older sister when I was Lulu’s age. So funny! How could anybody ever get upset with Lulu when she’s got the cutest voice in the world?

  16. congratulations on the nomination! i’ve been reading for a while and i agree, your family is very entertaining :)

  17. I think they lowered the American Idol age limit to two and I hear trying out with a self-written original song is a plus. She’s got this in the bag.

  18. Ashley says:

LOL!!!! That kid is a NUT!!! I love it!!! Nice reading Gigi…can definitely tell a big difference even from when I was out there a few months ago. HUGS to the lil’ pickles!

  19. Bahahaha!! I thought you’d just gone wacky with that bah bah pickle pickle line. Oh my gosh dying.

  20. Jennie says:

Bah Bah Pickle Pickle seems like a hit to me! :)
…and you look amazing for it to be a pajama day!! I never look that good on pajama days. :/
    Hehe…

  21. Ashley says:

Very funny. All three of you are too cute for words.

  22. Ang says:

I’m still giggling as I type. I love it you guys! Miss you

  23. bitt says:

I love the Quimbys (Quimbies?). I think that was Ramona, huh? I love the Peas too.

  24. I saw you on that list, congrats!

Love the video. Makes me smile.

Cat puke is bad enough once. Twice in 36 hrs. Not good.
    And on your duvet…oh boy!!

Have a great night (hopefully cat puke-free!) :)

  25. Sarah says:

hahahaa!!!! I did something just like that to my brother when we were little- except it was with cheese instead of pickle, LOL!

  26. Audrey says:

That was so hilarious. I think I’m going to start singing “baba pickle”. It’ll probably become a new national buzz-phrase.

  27. Gina says:

Hahaha, I think I just peed in my pants a little bit.

You need to record Lulu’s hit single on Youtube. She could be the next Justin Bieber ;)

  28. i just had tea go up my nose. oh lulu, i miss you!

good job gigi on the reading though!!! YOU SOUND GREAT!!!

  29. Sara says:

Great job reading, Gigi! She did awesome! And Lulu is hilarious. A bit pitchy, though. It’s hard to match the original “Bah Bah Pickle Pickle,” but Lulu did her thing and worked it out. Good work!

  30. Erica H. says:

It can be like your Golden Girls theme song. “Bah bah Pickle Pickle baaaaaaah” …… humming it already. For the follow up to your book: “Peas The Musical”?

  31. Tulika says:

    HAHAHAHA that was awesome.

  32. Stephanie says:

Bah Bah Pickle Pickle > any of the popular songs right now.
More Wacky Wednesday videos please! I love them! =)

  33. Gigi rocks SO hard with that awesome reading. I was an advanced reader like that too thanks to the direction of my awesome mom, so I give props to the both of you! :)

And OMFG bah bah pickle pickle is my new favorite song. I needed something new to sing to the dogs during the day (working from home makes me nutty) and this is totally it!

    • MamaPea says:

I honestly can’t take credit. Gigi’s kindergarten teachers are awesome.

      • Kelly says:

Oh please. You were the one who told me teaching starts at home and their kindergarten teachers supplement what you have already done. Take the props and run, girlfriend. Isn’t it fun to see our kids start preferring chapter books over picture books? Ryan is all over James and the Giant Peach right now.

        • MamaPea says:

Actually, it was seeing Ryan read his birthday cards last year that really amazed me and got me working with Grace. He is amazing. Because he has an amazing mom.

  34. Congrats on the list–that is awesome! You should definitely be #1 though. I bet you would be if they saw that video first!

Your husband sounds a lot like mine with the coupons and the “deals”…is it a lawyer thing? Oh so familiar.

  35. Mary Beth says:

Was she singing that to the theme of “Bad Romance”? “bah rah oh la la…”!!

    Too cute!!

    Congrats, again!

  36. Congratulations! Great video as well, Gigi’s reading sounds fantastic and love Lulu’s ‘soundtrack’! :)

  37. Congratulations! Well-deserved!

    I want a bah bah pickle….fried?

  38. Thank you for making my morning. :)

  39. That was hilarious! And way to go, Gigi–what a great reader!

  40. Allison says:

  43. Katie says:

Lulu stole the show! lol! she is so funny!! Your kids are too cute, I liked how Gigi just sat there and continued reading too, she didnt let lulu phase her!

  44. Just face it – Lulu was upset that she was not in the spotlight. :) That is so funny.

  45. I’m pretty sure Lulu was singing a Ke$ha song at the end there. :-)

    Congrats on the blog list!!

Lulu is just adorable.. loved her pickle song haha.
Congrats about being in the top 100!!!! you definitely deserve it!

  47. Too cute!! Lulu reminds me of me, when I would constantly jump in front of my Dad’s video camera waving my arm and chanting, “Hi Dad! Hi Daddy!!” until he finally recognized me. And congratulations on being in the top 100! :)

  51. Carrie says:

    Cutest kids ever!!
Can they be any more adorable???

  52. Lauren says:

Mama Pea, be more forgiving to your cat. He/she is probably not feeling too well, and might have eaten something bad or be on the wrong diet.

  53. Oh my goodness, Lulu’s song made me laugh out loud this morning. Super cuteness. :)

  54. I love how excited Lulu is about her reading lamp. And if I ever meet Lulu I’m bringing a jar of Costco pickles with me to share our mutual love.

  62. trailmomma says:

Oh my. Bah bah pickle pickle just turned my frown upside down this morning! Thank you for that. I needed it.
Congrats on your award. I 100% agree with the selection although I would have totally voted you #1 bah bah pickle pickle and all.

While driving to work and thinking about dinner I decided I wanted to ask you a question . . . I used to cook with TVP (textured vegetable protein) a lot since it is gluten free and high in protein. I generally used it sort of like a “ground meat” if you will . . . I’ve made sloppy joes, I’ve made meat balls/loaf etc. If you ever get curious about the stuff, I’d love some new ideas/uses for it. You can find it in Whole Foods. I generally used vegetable broth when cooking with it to give more flavor. Thank you in advance and of course no rush or obligation! :)

  63. Michelle says:

When my meetings get boring today i’m going to respond with “Bah. Bah Pickle, Pickle.”

  64. elise says:

this is too much. i am going to start singing bah bah pickle pickle as if its a real song now.

  65. Jennifer says:

Oh did I need that today! Thanks, Mama Pea. Gigi and Lulu are both adorable!

  66. Emily says:

I’m thinking Bah Bah Pickle Pickle might be the next big youtube sensation.

Congrats to you, and to Gigi!

  67. Kristy says:

Lulu is such a character, love it! :) And a big congrats to you!!!

  68. Maura says:

That pretty much just made my morning.

  69. Yay Ramona Quimby! I decided when I get another cat, I’m naming it Ramona. Because you needed to know that. Great job on the reading – super impressive! Maybe a book editor and professional singer are in your children’s career futures?! :)

  70. Katie says:

Oh and I forgot to say congrats!!!!! So awesome! In my eyes you are number 1 though ; )

p.s. How funny and cheap My fiance is, I want a kindle really bad, and he gave me his booklight, lol! How funny! I cant believe that your husband did that, Mike said maybe for my birthday I could get one, but for now I have jis stupid booklight : p lol

  71. Number 1 in my book! Or, google reader, anyways ;)

  72. Gwen says:

Well, at least bah bah pickle pickle (hilarious :) ) is a nice change from banana phone (which, ever since you posted that video, gets stuck in my head for no reason from time to time..)

  73. susan says:

OMG! here i thought i was going to get a chance to see a sweet little video of Gigi reading… i should have know better with LULU IN THA HOUUUUUSE!

My niece Addie loves the “voice memo” feature of the iPhone… i often find the best little surprises in there after she has swiped my phone! hahahahahahaha

  74. Lana says:

….i don’t know, thats top notch video skillz right there. My vote would have been #1 in the Top 100 Mommy Food Blogs! just saying….

  75. Haha – I just about lost it when I saw Lulu’s close-up. Hilarious. She’s definitely NOT camera shy.

Sorry to hear you’re still feeling bad. Feel better Mama Pea…I wished I looked half as good as you do when I have a sinus infection! ;)

  76. P.S. Congrats on being voted a top mom food blogger – what an honor!

  77. You’re #1 in my book too! Or, my computer. I love how you some how can put into words the craziness that is life with young children. I remember seeing an interview with the author of Eat Pray Love and her saying that watching the movie was so cool because it was her life, only with Julia Roberts as her. Well, you are writing my life, only with Julia Roberts level of talent. I don’t know if that makes any sense, but being compared to Julia Roberts is never a bad thing. :)

  78. Kelley says:

You, your recipes, your blog, and your family are all great. I look forward to reading your blog. It’s usually the first one I look at if there is something new. There are MANY blogs from which I have printed recipes that I have never tried. From yours, I have tried several (cookie dough dip, sloppy josephinas, and the appl-sage field raost stuffing). They are delicious, my eight year old will eat them, and the recipes are easy to follow.

As for Pea Kitty, you (or someone) can try regular combing, giving an anti-hairball supplement, and/changing the food. My cats needed all three. Some foods just don’t work for them, and the reduction of hairballs reduced the puking. Hope this helps!

  79. Sarah says:

    Highly enjoyable :D

Congrats to Gigi on the great reading! My Livi has and loves her booklight. And wants to steal my Kindle.

  80. missy miller says:

You can probably go anywhere n America and have a guaranteed babysitter while you and Pea Daddy play for a while….babysiters that will be JOYFUL to feed your kids vegan food.
    That=Success.

    South Florida…signing on for duty.

  81. Barbara says:

hahaha, lulu is what we would call “off the chain” in this video. lol. she was great. bah bah pickle pickle, yep, can’t wait to say that myself. instead of my usual “whatever,” i’m moving up to bah bah pickle pickle. love it.

  82. Kath says:

I love Lu’s BREATHING in the video!! So child-like :)

  83. congrats to the pea family!!! We love reading your blog (sorry we do not get to always comment). It makes us smile and laugh everyday, and makes us look forward to having a family of our own!!

  84. Emily says:

Hahaha too adorable! And congratulations, that’s awesome! :)
