Buttered Up
Pea Daddy is a smart, smart man.
Yesterday, he asked me to bake him cookies. This request coming after he had spent an hour and a half folding and putting away four loads of laundry. It was impossible to say ‘no’ since, thanks to his efforts, I finally had underwear in my drawer that weren’t post-partum granny panties.
Trust me, we all won.
This morning, I walked into the living room to find the drawing he left for us.
My heart flip-flopped over each strategically-planned detail.
Pea Daddy wearing one of the 34 blue plaid shirts in his closet. Holding us upright in our storm of hormones and hairspray.
Gigi in curls and a polka-dotted tulle skirt. Independent, yet affectionate. Daddy’s girl.
Lulu in pigtails, with a trace of stink eye, doing something with her right hand behind my back. Loving, but still a bit pissy. Mama’s girl.
Me, in a pink shirt with asymmetrical details. Caught up in the continuing “should I wear bangs or not” saga.
And, in perhaps the wisest move of all, he put Pea Kitty far, far away from me.
There’s no way she could swipe me with her angry, jealous paw from there.
It was the perfect pick-me up. A beautiful, tranforming ray of sunshine in a storm of hairspray, hormones and today, snotty Kleenex.
And then Pea Daddy called to casually mention that there are over 42 Spring Training baseball games taking place when we are in Phoenix for Spring Break and he wants to buy tickets.
Fine. I’m jelly. Whatever you want.
Just make sure I have clean underwear before we go.

a serious work of art. and what’s with husbands folding laundry and then asking for cookies? same thing happened to me an hour ago. i told him i had protein cereal. it didn’t do the trick…
You don’t want to share that stuff anyway!
Awww, this melted my heart! He is such a sweet Pea! What lucky girls you all are!
When will you be in Phoenix? We’ll be in Scottsdale in mid-March, and Chris’s dad asked if we wanted spring training tickets.
Pea Daddy is quite the artist, and I can’t decide about the bangs either. I think you look beautiful with or without.
Oh my gosh, are we talking meetup?!?! I’ll send you an email!!!
Oh my gosh – not that there wouldn’t be, but we really need pics of a HEAB/Mama Pea meet up!!!!
The girls with Baby Summer? Oh my peas, could it get any cuter?!
Wow, that P. Diddy is one talented artist! And a tricky artist at that.
He’s a trickster….butter you up and then drag you out to a hot ball field. At least the players are cute
Awww, that picture is soooo cute! Pea Kitty is adorable. I love when my husband draws pics, too. So fun!
Pea Kitty is adorable?! Want her?
She can’t be that difficult to give away can she? (I don’t want her) but I’m curious why haven’t you already?
It’s totally a joke.
Pea kitty looks like my TuffyBear. Sadly, I lost him on Valentines Day. I had him for almost 12 years. I lost my other cat last Labor Day and had him for 17 years. Little J was a lot like Lulu…feisty and full of fire. If Pea Kitty is anything like that…I can understand your frustration
I loved them both beyond words…so trust me when I say…some day, you’re gonna miss this. OK maybe not the kitty puke and other little nasty surprises…but you’re gonna miss her. Just keep reminding yourself of that
I know. I’m sorry for your loss.
hahah awww how cute of Pea Daddy!! Very strategic
Oh and I am totally Lulu…I have babysat SOO many families, and the 2nd one is always feisty!! I was the 2nd daughter and man was I a stinker!
I’m the second child too
poor, pitiful us! hehe
Way to work it, Pea Daddy! And sweet picture
“with a trace of stink eye” Bahaha. Ohhhh Lu
Ooohhhh he’s GOOD!
Have fun in Phoenix. I remember your Hawaii spring break like it was YESTERDAY. Wow! A whole year has gone by.
And this “post-partum granny panties”—oh I just had a flashback to those mesh panties they give you post partum. You probably know the type.
And the fact that Pea Daddy folds laundry?! Oh that is wonderful! Scott has never once done laundry in the 12 yrs I’ve known him. That’s ok though. The one time he tried, he shrunk $500 worth of clothes in 30 mins in the hot cycle. Never again!
Hope you guys are feeling better and healthy!
Why do I still have those underwear? Seriously?!?
I know. I found some in the back of my drawer a few weeks ago. I was like huh??! WHY am I saving these! Any woman who’s worn the mesh panties knows…not exactly fun times
Awww, Pea Daddy is a good artist! I bet the girls love his pic.
Chris did several loads of laundry and vacuumed the house yesterday. Then asked for muffins. I delivered. He’s munching right now.
I would so much rather bake than fold laundry.
So funny. Hope you feel better!
wow, i’m truly impressed with PD’s artistic ability…i’d almost kill for those skillz
p.s. thank you for being awesome. your comments are helping me so much through this ridiculously hard time. love you!
Heather, anytime. I wish I could do more.
Smart husband’s know how to get what they want. He’s a good one…
Such a cute drawing:)
Total. Cuteness. Miss the Peas!!!!!
Pea Daddy is so cute! I LOVE THIS! So sweet.
I think this was quite possibly one of my favorite posts of all-time. And, if anybody has a case of the stink eye in that adorable picture, I’d say it’s most definitely Pea Kitty. Hilarious! You and Pea Daddy are very talented.
Thanks, Em. It’s not all about the food in this house. Just mostly.
What an artist! I wouldn’t be able to say no if the Husband di something sweet like that either!
This is awesome! Good Job Pea Daddy
Oh post partum granny panties. Boy can I relate. LOL
Sorry…the memory is still fresh for you.
Haha…my husband is so transparent when he’s trying to butter me up.
I love that drawing– you should frame it!
I think I will!
Loved reading this first thing in the morning… haha you are sooo funny!!
PS: Pea Daddy really has some skills for drawing eh!
i love the painting and your descriptions, especially lulu’s … “Lulu in pigtails, with a trace of stink eye, doing something with her right hand behind my back. Loving, but still a bit pissy.” lol.
Omgggg when I was a child, my easel was my favorite thing! I was an artist, if I do say so myself!:)
Wow, Pea Daddy is quite the artist! Now tell me, how in the heck did you convince him to fold laundry? Whats your secret?! I guess he figured cookies for laundry is a fair trade.
Mostly just complaining.
Awwww!! Seriously!!
This is seriously the cutest post ever!! He’s definitely a daddy of girls!
Frame that!
Pea Daddy IS a very smart man. Love the picture, I seriously wish I could draw that well.
I love the drawing! And I love this post!
That’s adorable!
I almost wish my boyfriend weren’t so darn artistic so he could draw cute pictures like that. Instead he draws amazing, well thought out pictures.
that is like THE BEST PRESENT ANY HUSBAND COULD EVER EVER EVER GIVE! PeaDaddy rules! He’s a genius! i could eat that stuff up! Also love the peakitty looks so cute & innocent – dont they always, the little psychotic ninjas
Clearly Pea Daddy is a genius!! Not sure of our springbreak plans so we maybe able to check on pea kitty.
Oh yay! I’ll have Pea D come chat at you…I was going to enlist my aunt today, but you are much closer
Pea Daddy is freaking awesome! Well done
You guys are too cute! Your posts always make me smile.
Pea Daddy is an artist! lol Cute post, hope everyone is feeling better soon! We have snotty tissues here also!
That Pea Daddy knows his women well, and just how to make the rest of us wish we had a Pea Daddy with art skills too!
You will have a wonderful time at Spring Training. We’re going to Disney next week and taking in a few games, but I’m anxious to see pics from your Phoenix excursion. Make sure you pack the cute undies – he’s so worth it!
Oh my gosh, have a blast at Disney! And yes, I’ll be blogging from Phoenix!
Love this. This is a framer for sure! Maybe right next to the poster in your bedroom????
Seriously though, very sweet:)
Ha ha, love it Ang. Miss you…hope you guys are doing well! See you on the 10th!
LOVE.
XOXO
Such a sweet work of art! Men that can draw AND do laundry are rare, you’re lucky!
Don’t I know it!
Keep us posted on when Pea Daddy’s art gallery exhibit is up.
Teeheeehe! I love that picture! Especially with Lulu’s hand….that describes her so perfectly
You seriously inspire me to become a mom (someday) and with cute lil girls (or boys) to play with, bake with, etc. <3
Aww, thanks. Like I always say: BEST. JOB. EVER.
Ha, clever AND artistic – that’s a winner.
P.S. Gigi looks So comfy in her sweats, blanket & lounge chair. That’s the life…
Sick days are awesome when you are a kid.
I love your bangs! But if you want to try something new, you could possibly grow them out a bit so they’re longer and swept to the side.
Oops. I just cut them straight across last night.
That drawing is too cute!!! Something my hubby would totally do!! love your posts! they crack me up!
SO CUTE! What a sweetie you have
Melt my heart…Pea Daddy is amaze!
Hi Katie!
(I had no idea you had a blog!)
omg that is the sweetest pic ever, framing material!
Pea Kitty far away from you, BRILLIANT touch!
Missed you these past few days, i was away but back! I missed Mama Pea in my life!
Glad you are back too
I love that picture! It is so cute! He even nailed your cute little girl’s hair style!
Super cute picture!!
Hope you’re feeling better – I was out ALL last week too with a terrible fever and cough combo. Fevers as adults are just awful.
Thanks, Kelly. LOVE the name of your blog!
Great drawing! I love how it’s with crayons and there’s a rainbow!
My dad couldn’t draw like that for anything! hehehe
