In With the New
Pea Daddy and I spent nearly two hours in the car today, I’ll tell you more about why when my corneas aren’t so tired that I keep trying to take my contacts out. But of that two hours, I spent an hour and forty-five minutes telling Pea Daddy what things about myself I wanted to work on in the coming year. He listened. He said it all sounded “doable.” He even threw in a few personal goals of his own just to humor me. I believe “cut back on the root beer” was the most incriminating.
But when we get home, I had a change of heart.
Because Gigi had a song she wanted to sing.
I love being myself.
I never want to change.
I love the color of me.
I love my family.
I love the way I love.
I just want to show my spirit.
I never want to change.
I never want to change.
I’d like to amend my New Year’s Resolution list, please.
I never want to change.
I never want to change.
Except to be more like Gigi.

Awww, I want to be more like Gigi too! I love your family!
Thank you!
LOVE. I love you just the way you are. and gigi too. and lulu. even pea kitty….maybe.
Take that back. Right now. Or take her. Either one!
That is so beautiful!
Awwww…so cute!
This is so beautiful. My ovaries hurt.
That’s a mighty admirable goal for anyone, at any age.
I think we’ve all had enough of trying to change ourselves for the New Year, right?
Oh my teary eyes!!! Love that kid!! Love you!
Gigi wanted to call you today. I couldn’t find your address in “my brain.”
Gigi can call me anytime!!! Are you guys around tomorrow?? We could do a video chat!
Yup, we should be around most of the day! Just let me know when.
Cute!! Congrats on getting your eyesight back.
Remember when the teacher said that she was one of the happiest kids she’s ever seen…that’s why. She’s happy with who she is.
Thanks Gigi.
I’ll be nicer to my thighs, my left over post-100lbs weight loss, to the 30lbs I’ve gained, to the B- on my transcript, to the critical side of myself.
Because…a little love goes along way.
“you’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are–no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought” Matthew 5:5
You let her shine, by showing her your own glow.
M
I asked Gigi if I could share her song on my blog. I told her I thought it would help people. She told me I could.
Thanks, Miche.
Precious girl. I love to be kept in check by my 5 year old.
She is five now, you know, Ang.
Sigh. So easy to lose that spirit after we “grow up,” isn’t it? I want to be a kid forever!
Such wise words from Gigi! It’s obviously because she has great parents
Parents, as in plural, is right.
I have actually been going through that bit of dilemma. I always make plans to change myself for the better. Be more patient, organized and a better student, yet it just kind of goes away. I think I just may change my mindset this New Years and hope that by doing that I do accomplish those things.
Or you can just accept that you are sometimes impatient, disorganized and not a perfect student, and love yourself anyway! That’s what Gigi would do.
I think we should all strive to be more like Gigi! Words to live by!
aw thats so cute, kids say the darndest (and sometimese quie profound!)things.
That is the cutest thing I have ever heard, honestly.
That’s definitely the direction i should be taking… props to Gigi!

Awww!
First of all I love how much self-confidence Gigi exudes just by singing that song. Secondly, I think that’s a good goal for all of us. Let’s all just love being us
Hugs to your awesome kid.
I totally agree! As much as we always need to strive to be a better person Gigi’s got it!: Love yourself now.
Wow, let Gigi be a reminder that most of us need to start listening to our younger generation. They do know best.
oh the words of a child are so full of TRUTH! you sure are raising her right!
This is adorable. There’s always room for self-improvement, but I think that most of the improvement comes when we start thinking about it so much and just try to live justly and make each day count. Did she learn that song at school, or just come up with it herself?
Totally made up on the spot.
Warm fuzzies…all over. I think we ALL need to strive to be more like Gigi. What an amazing little girl…you know that’s because of you and Pea Daddy, right? Kudos to the Pea Family!
Thanks, Haley. I’ll give Pea D most of the credit. He’s an amazing father.
love that! your daughter knows what’s going on!
Adorable!
That is heartbreakingly sweet. Wise girl.
Aww I want to be more like Gigi too as my resolution.
I want to be more like Gigi too! You and Pea daddy are raising some incredible young ladies! Your family is amazing
proof you are doing the parenting the right way! This is a beautiful story! Hooray Gigi!
I hope your corneas and eye-parts were working properly at that point in time, because I’m pretty sure I would have teared up (and I don’t cry–for reasons unrelated to lasers zapping my eyes–so that’s saying something.)
She sees more clearly than many of the adults I know, and even though there are things about ourselves we want/need to change, our motivation should be only to become lighter in spirit and deeper in authenticity. In other words, be more like a kid.
I love that, “lighter in spirit, deeper in authenticity.”
Oh my. Tears have sprung…
children (and animals, well maybe not your animal) remind us how to be better humans! Thank you for this post. Well, thank you for all of your posts.
Thank you for putting the disclaimer in there for Pea Kitty.
did she make it up herself?! i wish i could babysit your kids.
Yes. I couldn’t make something that profound up if I tried.
Kids have the best views on life, for sure. Keep her around
I’m not sure I have a choice.
She obviously has two great parents teaching her that she is perfect just the way she is
i love gigi. words to live by
So sweet! She is clearly wise beyond her years
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in changing for the new year, but sometimes continuing to be yourself is the best resolution!
Amen.
That is beautiful! I hope she never feels any different.
Gigi is a smart cookie and so darn cute!
p.s. Does Pea Daddy have single brothers who are good listeners?
Nope, he’s an only child.
Definitely stay yourself- you’re perfect just the way you are! (Yep, bringing out the Bruno Mars quotes)
I love how great she feels about herself. I wish we could keep that feeling forever.
I want to be like Gigi too – <3 her!
Please don’t change!
Gigi is a wise young lady. We could all learn a lesson from her. I don’t make personal resolutuions anymore. Instead, I make goals about other things, like “I will re-paint the entire inside of our house this year, including the ugly kitchen cabinets”. It was a monstrous goal, but I’ve almost finished.
Nice work! I need some new carpet if you want to put that on your goal list.
She’s just too cute. Sounds like she’s gonna have a good head on her shoulders. Go Gigi!
I think it’s time I channel my inner Gigi, too. I like my goals for 2011 though because I only have 2. To run a half-marathon that I’m already signed up for and to make it to church every Sunday.
Great goals!
Awww! I think maybe we should all adopt a Gigi attitude next year!
Amen!
neither you nor gigi should ever change!!! you’re already fabulous!
xOxO
Thanks, my love.
Did she come up with that song on her own?! That is just precious. Kudos to Gigi and her wonderful parents:)
Yes, she did. We were just eating dinner and she burst into song.
Wow, that’s so beautiful! I’m inspired. Thank you Gigi! That just made my day.
aww, so cute! We can learn so much from children!
this brought tears to my eyes
i love gigi, and i love that you shared this…and i’m amending my resolution too
Good. Because I think you are fabulous.
Amen to that! Kids have a way of making things more real, true, and purposeful.
you are AMAZING. i learn from you everyday. my resolution is to keep reading you every.single.day
maybe multiple if im feeling a little low
Thank you!!! I hope to be able to live up to your resolution.
That is incredibly sweet.
Gigi rocks!
Jen
I can’t say it enough. Your kids are so adorable. I love Gigi’s song, she should sing it to the world I bet it’d make everything better.
oh, wow. get this girl a record deal.
Wow, I love Gigi’s song!
So great!
What a lovely song, such a great post.
Wouldn’t it be great if we, as adults, had the ability to be the way we were when we were little kids. The way we were before we were jaded by boys, by friends, by television, by radio, by magazines, by adults, by our own parents, by…LIFE! If we could all be more like we were as children the world would be a much happier and kinder place to live in.
KEEP LOVING WHO YOU ARE GIGI!
I think it’s my job to see that she does!
Awww, that is so sweet! Spoken from the mouths of babes!
Gigi, don’t ever change.
/wipes tears
This is the most beautiful song to enter a mother’s ears Mama Pea!
I want to be like Gigi when I grow up!
Be proud of yourself as a mom Mama, you are doing a beautiful job with your girls!
Ana
Thanks Ana. Today she said, “I’m a gift from God.” Maybe she’s taking this a little too far…
Nah.
Even I want to be more like Gigi!
You have such smart girls! Must have been raised right
Awww! You must be soo proud! Your daughters are the cutest, kids in the world,
xxx

You are so incredibly sweet. Thank you so, so much.
He certainly puts things in my life right when I need them. Like this comment.
Have a wonderful day!
Gigi is quite the smart cookie. Good for her. Great song & advice.
