Boy Toys

IMG_0659

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I thought that by having girls, I’d be spared many of the aggravating things about having little boys.

I get off pretty much scot-free in the toilet cleaning department. (Pea Daddy aims to please.)  During puberty, I won’t  have to deal with any awkward situations that “pop up” unexpectedly, so to speak.  And when that sonogram technician found their girly hoohahs, I gave a couple girly squeals at getting to buy frilly dresses, tea sets and baby dolls instead of remote control cars, Legos and lightsabers.  I almost hate myself for knowing how to accurately spell “lightsaber.”  I blame Pea Daddy.

Little did I know that my girls would challenge every gender stereotype I threw at them.  All Lulu wanted for Christmas was a remote control car, so much in fact that with each present she opened, she fumed that Santa had screwed up.

Not to worry.  Her dreams still came true.

Lulu then decided to ram her car into Gigi and use it to chase Pea Kitty.

IMG_0606

Can’t say the same exact thought never crossed my mind.

The testosterone continued to dominate as GIgi got Legos.  Pink Legos, but Legos, nonetheless.

Many men tried to help her build “Bellyanna’s” Dream Cottage.  Okay, so she did get a doll.  But until she gets a new name, I’m ignoring “Bellyanna’s” existence. “Sleeping Booty” will also not be acknowledged.  Same goes for “Boobarella.”

Eventually, it took two woman to get the job done.  One was not Bellyanna.

I felt so accomplished, I broke my own “Don’t take my picture on Christmas this year because I’m getting LASIK in 36 hours” rule.

IMG_0725

Pride trumps vanity. We worked our way through eleven steps and eighteen pieces in…about forty-five minutes.  I’m chalking it up to blind luck.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any manlier, and that Gigi and Lulu were going to start “adjusting” themselves and smelling like a combination of old gym socks, cologne and gravy, an awkward situation popped up with their “magic wands.”

IMG_0561

Awkward like realizing that the Jedi knight that you once passionately kissed is really your brother.

IMG_0563

I almost hate myself for knowing that.

I blame Pea Daddy…

  1. Eden says:

I blame pea kitty. Its always easy to blame the cat. After all, he was chased….

  2. Gliding Calm says:

Good luck with your Lasik Surgery!!

I totally have an urge to play with legos now! :D

  3. Ashley says:

EYE want pink legos!!!! Love that last photo..looks like the girls had a blast all day!! :)

  4. lol looks like your girls has a wonderful Christmas! Happy Holidays:-)

  5. Vanessa says:

Haha!! This was an awesome post!! I love the lego picture! Also love how the car was chasing PeaKitty!! Good luck with your Lasik!! Hope you had a Merry Christmas :-)

  6. Lauren says:

Haha, I know if I have girls, I will have the same results when it comes to toys and sports. :)

  7. Gena says:

Dude, I wish my Christmas had involved light sabers.

  8. Anna says:

I’m pretty sure my mom felt the same way about my toy selection growing up. I’m 22 now, and I do love getting dressed up! I just also love star wars. It isn’t just for boys.

    Love the car.

  9. That last picture is really cool with the lights! I am all about photo composition now that my dslr is on order, I keep trying to learn and pay attn to pics like I never have in 3 yrs of blog reading. You’d think I would have paid attn to pictures more, but no, I didnt and am “cramming” now looking at pics :) I digress…

Merry Xmas to you all! The toys look like they were big hits and that’s all you and Santa can hope for!

Good luck on your Lasik. I know you have wanted this and are so happy to finally be doing it…I am wishing you the BEST possible outcome!

  10. This is too funny – see in my brother’s case, my dad was afraid he swung the other way… ifyou know what I’m sayin’

  11. I love legos!! So fun. And it’s about time that the toy companies make pink legos. :D

Best of luck with the lasik surgery! :D

  12. I’m so happy that your boys- I mean GIRLS- had a good Christmas! Hope all goes well with your surgery!

P.S. What was in the Lululemon bag?

  13. Good luck on your surgery!

The hit toy with my family this year? Remote control Helicopters. And we’re 24, 22, and 20 years old.

  14. Haha, I love this post. You crack me up! Looks like a wonderful Christmas nevertheless! ;)

  15. I’m glad there is a picture of you on Christmas, glasses and all. :) And those magic wand pics are pretty cool!

  16. Lulu wanted a Lightening McQueen remote control car and the ONLY thing my little Pryce wanted was a ladybug Pillow Pet. I kid you not. I even asked him about 100 times if he was SURE he wanted the ladybug. Not the black and yellow bee? Nope. Not the brown puppy? Nope. Not any of the other more “manly” Pillow Pets? Nope. “Santa” didn’t disappoint. He got that ladybug Pillow Pet and was more excited than I’ve ever seen him.

  17. Good luck with Lasik!! Aren’t you so stoked to get out of your glasses for good?! And this is really awkward to say, but I’ve always wondered how you teach a little boy to aim…

  18. They make pink Legos now? Good to know as my brother’s Legos were some of my favorite toys.

Will you please send Pea Daddy over to the HEAB household to give CD aiming lessons? Thanks.

Looks like the Pea Family had a very Merry Christmas. Best wishes for a wonderful 2011 Mama Pea! Love you guys. :)

  19. I used to love legos and cars and I am still the ultimate girly girl!! Let us know how you like LASIK!! Ive heard reallly great things.

  20. Ella says:

Hope you had a fantastic Christmas and your lasik goes smoothly!
Boys toys are much more entertaining than the ones marketed at girls. I loved my American girl dolls growing up but nothing compared to the cool air hockey sets and race cars my brothers would get.
I kinda hope I only have boys. I was suchhhhh a brat to my parents in middle school.

  21. Katie says:

Merry Christmas, Peas! Thinking of you during surgery :-)

  22. Camille says:

    Legos are awesome!
Don’t worry, I was a kid who only wore extra large t-shirts and refused to play softball because I wanted to play baseball with the boys. It could be worse! :)

  23. Amber K says:

It’s funny because I have always wanted boys because I didn’t want to deal with girls. No kids yet, although I certainly get plenty of attitude from my oldest niece. Ah…one day I’ll have a boy!

  24. Namaste Gurl says:

Awwwh, what a lovely, tear- filled story indeed :-) Merry Christmas, friend!

  25. Katie says:

After having my baby boy 6 weeks ago, I am still terrified at having to deal with the awkward puberty pop ups.

Glad you all had a very merry Christmas! (I’ll have you know that I consumed no fewer than 10 peanut butter chocolate chip dough balls in the past 48 hours. I both applaud and curse you for this). :)

  26. Shelley says:

Two little lego loving girls here too. This year I got them the bakery and toy store right after thanksgiving and we created a new holiday tradition of swearing daily – those legos are painful to step on (and crazy expensive-wth?). I mean we created a new tradition of putting together the new lego sets each year and enjoying the love, peace and harmony that comes with it.

  27. Ana says:

Good luck with your surgery Mama Pea, I will keep you on my thoughts!
Both me and my sister loved legos when growing up, and still do until today! (I am 31 and she is 22!!)
Now I have a boy (he is 8) and more legos than I would ever imagine, I think I might like the legos more than my little guy! :-)
And yes, we did get a light saber for Christmas… but wait, it wasn’t my son, he already had one. It was actually my husband, who bought one for himself so he could play with my son… I am surrounded by science fiction nerds here!
    Ana

  28. I cannot love legos any more; those are the best toys ever

  29. haha ‘wands’ good one.

Your girls are getting so grown up! Lulu is like a little woman now!

  30. bitt says:

I wanted a remote control car too as a kid. I always had to take my brother’s cars and legos. He thought I liked hanging out with him but really it was all about the toys.

What a lovely Christmas you all had! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  31. Priyanka says:

After my brother was born I would fight him to play with his legos and remote control cars. Girls love toys of all types, we can play with dolls and tea sets and put up quite a fight with the lightsabers :)

Good luck with your surgery girl!

  32. Allison says:

I loved legos:) I use to want to be a architect so i would build these riduclously crazy houses with a ton of different levels!

  33. The Legos are a great, I feel like the are more of a unisex toy… building isn’t just for boys! I especially love the pinky girl colored ones. Looks like Mamapea has a lot more little parts to keep up with. May the force be with you!

  34. Hey, I loved legos as a kid too! :-) Adorable pics with amazing pics, this was so cute!

  35. sherie steinberger says:

thanks for sharing the recipe with ashley for the awesome cookies….we only put out half for christmas and saved the rest for us!!! your children are adorable and we heard they loved the scarves….soooo cute!….ashley is the best
    have a happy new year…
    ashleys aunt sherie

    • MamaPea says:

Aww, I’m touched you left a comment! Ashley IS the best, and I’ve heard such good things about you!

I love the scarves too! And now I have two to borrow.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  36. laura says:

i love the pink lego, thats beyond awesome

  37. bahahahaha…be forewarned. they might roll around in the dirt next…because that’s how i started when I played with boy things….

  38. Love Lulu’s face in that first picture!!!

  39. No fair…they make pink legos now. I had to play with the blue and green legos my brother had to build my dolls’ houses.

So much fun for Pea Daddy to have fun toys to play with too :-)

  40. good luck with the surgery! i love the bellyanna by the way…what’s so wrong with it? ;)

  41. Good luck with the surgery!

  42. Maren says:

I totally wish I had pink legos when I was growing up!! Those are so cool! :) Good luck with LASIK!!! and congrats on almost being done with wearing glasses…FOREVER!

  43. Holly says:

one year, all i wanted for Christmas was boy underwear.

    true story.

    i was 6.

  44. Marianne says:

Legos always seemed pretty gender neutral to me. I still kinda want some.
