Postcard from the Peas: Disney Day 1

I don’t even know where to start to tell you about all the fun we are having here at Disneyland.

And we’ve only been here seven hours.

I already have more photos than I can manage, and we haven’t even seen a Princess yet.  Now a Playmate…that’s another story.  Don’t worry, I won’t make you wait long for that one.

Eventually I’ll get around to organizing my photos into neat little posts detailing our hotel, our dining options and some of the park highlights, but for now, I’ll just let you in on FIVE surprising things about today.
1. You can watch TV on airplanes.

Even better, you can watch Top Chef on airplanes.

Not so surprising is that Eric Riepert is now on the list of my biggest celebrity crushes.  I get weak in the knees when he says the world “chocolate.”  Excuse me, “shhhoaulklet.”  Shiver.

2.  Hunger > Disneyland.

We quickly checked in to our hotel, bypassed jumping on our bunk beds and pooh-poohed the pool (not to be confused with pooing in the pool) before rushing out to find something, anything to eat.

We’ll be spending a lot of time and money at Jamba Juice.

Unabashed chugging, completely oblivious to anyone and everyone around me.  I told you I was hungry.  Damn you, Top Chef and your tantalizing amuse bouches.

3.  The only person who loves roller coasters more than Gigi is Lulu.

Or me.  Let’s just call this one a three-way tie.

3.  Mimi’s a MILF, even if she doesn’t know what a MILF is.

I was pretty darn surprised when my mom announced to the whole Super Shuttle today, “I had to Google the word ‘MILF’ after reading your blog comments!  And oh my, that’s not very nice!” It took our driver, three passengers and a Wikipedia page to convince her that it was a compliment.  Just say “thank you,” Mimi.

4.  Gigi cares far more about having fun than staying dry.

I’m not entirely sure she’s even my daughter.

I’m intentionally ducking behind Pea Daddy there.  It didn’t work.  I milked Gigi needing a change of clothes enough to buy me ten minutes with my flat iron.  I think I’ve had my fill of Splash Mountain for the week.

5.  I wish Pea Daddy knew more about Playboy Playmates.

We were walking down Main Street when Pea Daddy turned and said, “Look, it’s that girl!” Come again?!

“It’s that girl, from the show with Hugh Hefner?” What?!

“You know…the dumb blond!” Yeah, that really narrows it down.

After about three more awkward minutes, some obscene hand gestures and a snorty laugh, I pieced together that Pea Daddy meant Kendra.  I took off with my camera, but caught sight of only a pair of booty shorts, some platinum braids and knee socks before I gave up.

Okay, Pea Daddy, now that the girls are passed out, you study up with some E! I’ll be enjoying my “shhhoaulklet” from my pillow.

Shiver.

Awww, it’s so nice to know that you guys are having fun!!
    I’m so jealous!
    :)

  2. Thanks for sharing all the of the fun you and your family are having. Although I only live about 10 minutes away from Disneyland, my family and I rarely go. We keep saying we’ll pick up some annual passports but something else to spend the money on always comes up… that, and my wife really dislikes crowds and long lines. I, on the other hand, love it there (and so do the kids). Enjoy the your stay at the HapPEAest Place on earth!

  3. I can’t wait for postcard #2!

You had me cracking up with all the MILF talk. Peas & Thank You isn’t PG ;)

  4. April says:

My mom asked me last weekend if I remember going to Disneyland when I was 5. I told her no. She looked at my dad and said that was a waste :) Truth is, when I was 23 I went there for my honeymoon and I don’t quite remember much of that either.

I’m glad you and your family are having a blast!

  5. Haha! Pea awesomeness all around. Thanks for the early morning giggle :D

  6. Lauren says:

What a great day! So glad you guys are having a fantastic time so far.

  7. Erin says:

These pictures are too cute–the girls both look so happy! This is a great age for kids to go because the magic of Disney is still so real. Just wait until they encounter a Princess! :D

  8. Adorable! I love the photo of Lulu’s piggy back ride, and that she’s basically going for the strangle, and he’s just bouncing along.

  9. looks like you are having a great time!! can’t wait to hear more!

  10. Tina says:

Awww, so fun!!!! :D Did Lulu get to ride the Splash Mountain too? Gigi sure looks happy on it!

I am going to soak in all these posts. I seriously love Disney. It would be a hard toss up between Disney and chocolate though.

  11. Great pictures. I especially love Lulu’s face in the roller coaster one — so cute!

  12. Hayley says:

I LOVE that you’re posting about your adventures in D-Land! I so miss going there…i’m going to live vicariously through you while you’re at “the happiest place on earth.” Way to go Gigi for riding Splash Mountain AND Big Thunder Mountain! I think I was 12 before I went on either of those.

I’m totally cracking up at Mimi’s MILF comment – sounds like something my own mom would say!

I can’t wait to read more! Enjoy it.. :)

  13. I love that Mimi had to google MILF and didn’t know it was a compliment.

Gigi loves the curly hair thing so she can handle the water a bit better. The picture with her and Pea Daddy is precious and worthy of a frame for his desk :-)

  14. great pictures! i also have a huge celebrity crush on eric ripert!!

  15. Evan Thomas says:

Your family is hysterical, please adopt me. I will cook and vacuum, but not dust

  16. Aww, this is so great! I hold a special place in my heart for all things Disney. Disney World (never been to Disneyland) is one of my go to vacation spots to this day because it makes me all nostalgic-y with memories of kissing Mickey’s nose, riding on Peter Pan’s Flight, and getting a ghostly hitchhiker from the Haunted Mansion. I’m so excited you are taking us with you on your journey. Can’t wait to see the Peas during the trip!

  17. Heidi says:

When Lulu smiles with that huge smile and scrunchy face, she looks ust like her Dad. So cute! I LOVE tv on planes – it’s the only thing that could get me through the 14 hours to Hawaii.
Wishing you a wonderful week with more coasters, water rides and princesses than you can stomach!

  18. hippierunner says:

Wow Gigi is so brave! When I was at Disneyland a few weeks ago, I could barely even look at Splash Mountain much less fathom riding it! Congrats! Glad you guys are having fun!

  19. looks like a great time! you and the girls just look so beautiful in all of these pictures. i loved splash mountain, but my face pretty much looked like gigis when i rode it. so jealous – have fun! :)

  20. Kath says:

This post makes me so happy for those girls :)

  21. Dorry says:

Amazing – LOL about the MILF comment. My mom is “Mimi”, too these days. Often a clueless Mimi but we love her. Looks like a big first day! I’d have been elated to see the Jamba Juice. :)

  22. Kelly says:

Yay for Disneyland!!! The girls look ridiculously happy and you look ridiculously gorgeous with those California highlights. Have fun!

  23. Felicia says:

ahahhaha. i seriously love reading your blog. looks like you guys are having a blast! enjoy!

  24. Ashley says:

LOL to this whole post. I remember going on a water ride in FL with my parents and brother. It was in one of those huge circular floats that spins around down a river under waterfalls. My dad and I got drenched but my mom + bro were dry as bones, haha. We have a Jamba Juice right down the street from our new house. I got their steel cut oats the other day and OMG they were the best I’ve ever had!! [and vegan!] I was totally impressed, especially compared to starbucks instant oatmeal CRAP. ;) Let’s see if I can ramble on some more…..hehe…have a great day!!!!

  25. Meg says:

HAHA about the MILF and Playboy, ohhh goodness. You all look like you;re having an amazing time!! I love it :D

  26. Mama Pea,
So glad you guys are enjoying your time at Disney. The girls are so precious, and I can’t believe Kendra was there. Too funny!

Yes, mimi is a total MILF, and your hair always looks perfect. Jealous.

  27. meredith says:

I am the biggest Kendra fan EVER!!!!!!!! I have met her and she is the nicest person ever!!!!
Sounds like a fun day. Disney is the happiest place on earth :)

  28. What fun!!! I’m in college and don’t even know what MILF means, though I’m pretty sure even my parents know. I’m probably better off not knowing.

  29. Fallon says:

Your girls are so adorable! Have fun in Disneyland, hopefully you will see some princesses soon ;)

  30. such a cute family! have a good time over there!! your little girl is not afraid of getting on a roller-coaster! i’m so scared!

  31. Gillian says:

The “shhhoaulklet” and MILF comments are killing me. Love it and glad you guys are having such a blast!

  32. Lauren says:

I’m so jealous you’re in Disneyland! The first thing I did last time I was there was stop at Jamba Juice :)

  33. Carbzilla says:

I believe you that it was Kendra but don’t forget you’re in the land of Kendras (which Walt didn’t even know would be an appropriate park name some day).

You guys are adorable! I’m a dork that I can tell every ride you’re on (and I haven’t even been there for years). That first photo of Pea Daddy and the girls is priceless!

  34. We just told Ave last night she was leaving in 30 days. Perfect time to post since she is beaming from ear to ear right now. She wants to know everything about every detail of Gigi’s trip. Does she like her Jamba juice, why is she so wet, what ride will she go on next, when can she meet the princesses. (etc) You really don’t need to answer all of those:) I’m glad your time is going so well.

  35. Oh my gosh, the girls must be in HEAVEN! The roller coaster pic was adorable of Lulu…Gigi’s was adorable too! I have yet to take my kids to Disney. I’m worried that we’ll lose Sophia, she’s such a wild child, LOL!

  36. Camille says:

Hahaha, oh my gosh, the MILF thing is awesome!

  37. mary says:

Looks like you are the hapPEAest people at disney! :)

  39. chelseY says:

  40. Gigi is owning Splash Mountain!

  41. Maura says:

You can feel the happiness coming out of everyone’s smiles in these photos. Gigi’s smile with you and your Jamba Juices is particularly fabulous! Sorry that we’re not having better weather out here for you this week…at least the girls won’t get sunburned?

  42. This makes me want to be a kid again and go to Disneyland with my parents <3 It’s so nice to see a family so happy :) Love you, Peas!

  43. awwww looks like your having an AWESOME time enjoy!!!

  44. haha that’s awesome you saw Kendra..kind of:)
That picture of the log ride is hilarious!! Gigi looks like she’s trying to fly!!

  45. seriously andy and I LOVE ERIC RIPERT! He is so dreamy. I need to meet him one of these days.

I love that Downtown Disney has a Jamba Juice. YUM.

I only go on Splash Mountain if I am promised time with a blow dryer, hotel and hair iron afterwards. Too many bad experiences.

  46. Espie says:

That’s a great picture of Pea Daddy, Gigi and Lulu in front of the castle.

Enjoy all things Disney…I can’t wait to see more pics!

  47. kate says:

I love the little character chocolates! Looks like you guys are having a grand time!

  48. janetha g. says:

oh man, i wish i was there with your whole fam!!!!!!!!!

  49. I just have to mention again that I absolutely cannot wait for your book. Your recipes have been the stars of our kitchen lately: last week, we enjoyed your vegan zucchini-quinoa lasagna and today we devoured those awesome NutriGrain-wannabe (AKA here as “blueberry cobbler”) bars for a quick and delicious so-decadent-but-so-healthy breakfast. Your recipes are also the only ones — even among vegan cookbooks/recipes — that I don’t have to fidget with to bring the levels of oil, sugar, or “butter” down to reasonable human !levels. The carnivores in my family raved. Thank you! The step-by-step photos help me seem like a skilled cook. ;) Hope you’re having a great getaway.

  50. Aww, it looks like you are having such a blast! Your photos bring me back to visiting Disneyland as a child. Though I definitely was not able to watch Top Chef on the airplane. More like checkers in the backseat of the mini-van! Have a great time!

  51. Hey, so you’ve probably gotten a couple dozen already but I gave you a Cherry on Top award cuz you totally rock.
    http://seriouslysassy.wordpress.com/2010/09/09/cherry-on-top-award/

  52. Sana says:

    Major LOL.
So, in 1997 my parents took my siblings and I to Disneyland. I am pretty sure they had more fun than we did.
Have an amazing time ad make beautiful memories :)

  53. Such a funny post. I love seeing your beautiful pictures of Disneyland…admiring the quality of it because I’ve been to Disneyland at least 20 times this year and my pictures does not come close.
