Pack It Up, Pack It In

Let me begin.

My day was packed, but sadly, not my suitcase. I still have 9 hours. That’s a lifetime.

The hardest part of packing is making a list.

I’m so anal meticulous I think that if I made a mistake I would have gotten out the White Out. They have places for people like me. You will note that there’s no “white jacket” on that list, though. But if there were, it would be in the “Layers” category of the “Me” subsection.

I tend to overpack and ended up paying an extra forty clams for a “big boned” bag on the way home from Hawaii, so I’m trying to be choosy in what I’m packing and what I’m not.

I AM packing generic Nyquil.

The hard stuff because I’m fighting a cold. Generic because I’m cheap.

I am NOT packing my running shoes.

The average Disneyland-goer walks between 8 and 12 miles per day. I do not plan on walking those miles in Shape Ups either. I don’t care how firm they’ll make my backside, they are hideous.

I AM packing super comfortable, slightly mature sandals. Born and Aerosoles, just like Grandma always wore.

It’s the lesser of two evils.

I am NOT packing the leftover cupcakes.

Those must be eaten immediately, along with a 1/2 a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough. I also have 8 1/2 hours to polish off a head of romaine, a zucchini, and some broccoli florets, so in my book they cancel each other out.

Speaking of my book, I AM packing my latest round of edits.

I don’t anticipate having a lot of free time, but “It’s a Small World” is a long ride. It’s a long…long…ride.

I AM packing a Real Simple “Clip and Save” To Go Workout.

It will make an awesome bookmark for the Chelsea Handler book I’m also bringing.

I AM packing a lot of food.

I simply have to make sure I have all the necessary accouterments for the Priciest Produce on Earth.

I have a feeling all our cash will be blown on giant pickles. I have nothing else to say about that.

I am NOT packing the Pillow Pets.

This may become a problem upon our departure at 7:30 a.m.

I am NOT packing any other pet, for that matter.

I anticipate she will puke on the carpet at 7:32 a.m.

I AM packing the most elaborate Princess dresses I’ve ever seen.

They make my wedding dress look like it was made of cheesecloth and Elmer’s glue.

I would show you full-length shots, but trust me, you will see more pictures of Gigi Tiana and Lulu Sleeping Beauty than you will ever want in the next six days. And those dresses make all the other piles of skirts, blouses, sundresses and even Princess nighties I have packed totally irrelevant.

I want to place big red check marks next to all of these things on my list, but that would be a little too messy. I think I’ll just run down the list out loud with Pea Daddy and say “check” after each one. He can hardly wait.

Oh, and one more thing I AM taking with me…

YOU.

Check!

See you in the Hap-PEA-est Place on Earth!

  1. Lindsay says:

Please take Tennis Shoes with you. My mom took comfy sandals with us to disney and she had blisters by the end of day one. Please do not worry about your appearance and take your tennis shoes for walking!! ;)

  2. Michelle says:

Have fun!!!! I am the most disorganized traveler EVER.So once again, I am learning a lot from you!! Paying $40 is nothing! I usually have to buy forgotten clothes/shoes/UNDERWEAR when we get somewhere and then a bag to haul it home in!!

Can’t wait to read/see your adventures!!

  3. Camille says:

Ahh, you are going to have so much fun!
One of my dreams in life is to be able to take my future children to Disneyland in full Disney costume :)

  4. Gliding Calm says:

    HAVE A BLASSSSSSSSSSSSSSTY!! :)

  5. Neats says:

YAY! I am glad you are taking us!!

    Have an awesome time!

  6. elise says:

have FUN!!!!!!!!! i had a blast eating the priciest produce on earth…and i was pleasantly surprised at how vegan friendly it was (as long as youre willing to drop a few paychecks). i want the cookbook NOW!!!

  7. Adam says:

7:32 am sounds about right… I never know when they do it, but whenever we come home from anywhere there are always a few presents for us as well! I hope you guys have the absolute best time, say hi to Cinderella for me, i like to think she hit on me pretty hardcore when i was 16. Wouldn’t have worked out anyway, too high maintenance…

  8. I am so anal about packing lists too. I loved those over-the-top princessy dresses when I was little. The girls are going to have to much fun in those :)

  9. Justine says:

Oh I was just at Disneyland 2 weeks ago (during the heat wave)! You will have so much fun, it is great this time of year :) I insist you take the girls into the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (it’s right behind Sleeping Beauty castle)… they will love it. And Disney is actually pretty veggie-friendly, there are a lot of (overpriced) yummy fruits and veggies and other snacks–plus you can get veggie burgers in quite a few of the restaurants there!

  10. Have an awesome time on your trip!!

I dont actually write my lists, I just keep it in my brain which may explain why I have forgotten a few things that I really need but have plenty of things that I don’t truly need that I remembered. I am of the mindset though that if I have my passport, some cash, a credit card, my child & spouse, our swimsuits, and a little snack food, I can pretty much get by and make due in a pinch. And there have been some trips where literally all I had that made it to the other side WAS what I had in our carryon’s. I remember bringing my hair dryer to Costa Rica. Between the humidity and the no electricity in the rainforest, I didnt use it. Ahhh, travel memories.

    Have a great time!!!!

  11. hehe I always make Mr BBB say ‘check’ as I read out our shopping list when we are grocery shopping together ;) yeah he loves it!

  12. Lauren says:

I’m not sure if I should wish you a wonderful trip or wish you good luck. LoL, I’ll just wish you both! :) Just don’t forget to pack those little peas. :)

    Have an awesome time!

  13. ida says:

Great ‘Jump Around’ reference! People don’t dress to impress at Disney, it’s all about comfort. I say bring the sneakers.

  14. Have fun! Looks like you got everything!

  15. sweetersalt says:

Oh fun! Have a great time!

    Laura

  16. RhodeyGirl says:

Ummmm Mama Pea I think there might be an error because I clearly see PILLOW PETS on your packing list! And wouldn’t they be GREAT on the airplane?!

You know you will end up taking them! Right?!?!?!?!?!?!

Have a fabulous time in Disney and good luck staying clear of the nasty turkey legs people think are so fun to eat. Nast.

  17. RhodeyGirl says:

P.S. Now I have that song stuck in my head.

  18. Have fun and thanks for packing us.

  19. Lacey says:

oh! Which Chelsea Handler book are you bringing with? I absolutely LOVE her!

  20. Erika says:

Gosh, I love Disney. I am so jealous! Have an amazing time at the Happiest Place on Earth ;) . I’m with RhodeyGirl, if you see those nasty turkey legs, run the other way!

  21. Heidi says:

Ahh.. generic Nyquil. I’m on it now and it’s the best thing for a good night’s sleep when you’re sick! I hope you have a wonderful time with the girls and Daddy Pea! I can’t wait for pictures of all of the princess-related shenanigans.

  22. Carrie says:

I really like the bit about using the workout paper as a book mark for your chelsea handler book. Hah!!! We recently went to nyc and with all the walking there my body has been refusing to get on the treadmil. Hmph. Have fun in Disney! Can’t wait to see pictures!

  23. Tina says:

Packing lists stress me out….but with kids they are a must. How do such little people have so much stuff? Excited to hear about everything! I want to go!

  24. i am so excited you guys are going and taking us with you :) seriously though, i love disney…i would love to go!

  25. Nikki says:

Have a blast! Oh, just tried Justin’s Almond Butter……super yummy!

  26. Felicia says:

yayyy! im excited to see the girls dressed up :)

  27. Liz @ Blog is the New Black says:

OMG, you are as neurotic as me with your lists! I do, in fact, use Whiteout!

  28. Tamara says:

The preschooler in me is so jealous of Gigi and Lulu right now! My family lived only an hour away from Disneyland when I was little, but we were never allowed to go because the tickets were too expensive, and the few times we did I wasn’t allowed to eat anything but the sandwiches my mother packed, ride anything with a wait longer than 15 minutes, or even think about asking for /anything/ with a princess on it.

My fiance and I have a pact to remedy that deprived childhood as soon as we graduate, get jobs, and have some spare cash to waste in Orlando at the BIG version of Disneyland :D

  29. mary says:

Oh boy! Have fun!! :) the girls will love it and so will you, release your inner 5 year old :)

  30. Anne says:

I love traveling but haaaate packing. I always bring too much too. We actually have one suitcase that hubby has for-bid-den me from ever touching again. It’s THAT big. :D

Have a wonderful time in Disneyland, Pea Fam!!!

  31. bitt says:

I am curious what you will do with the protein powder–eat it plain? I’m never brave enough to do that!

I am with the other commenter than said: bring tennis shoes!

    Have a fun trip!

  32. emily says:

Ha, I can top that list – I used to make a schedule of which oufits I was going to wear to school … for the next few months … so I wouldn’t repeat any pieces until I’d worn them all!

You guys are going to have such a fun time, I can’t wait to read the recaps!

  33. Holly says:

    YAY for your book :)
Hope you have a GREAT trip!! Can’t wait to see all of the pictures- I have been to Disney WORLD a million times…since I do live in Orlando…but I have never been to Disney LAND :)

  34. Maren says:

Have a safe trip! Your girls will have SUCH a blast! And those gowns are somethin else! I’ll never get sick of seeing those two cuties in their beautiful gowns! :)

  35. I always debate on whether or not I should bring my running shoes and always go with comfy sandals instead. I think you’ll be fine!

Haha giant pickles. I can’t even hear the words “giant pickle” without thinking of disneyland.

Can’t wait to see Disney pictures! Have a blast!

  36. Hope you Peas have a great time! :) Your are not meticulous, you are very well organized and efficient, haha.

  37. Love the what to pack and not pack theme in this post:) Not taking Pea Kitty to see Mickey Mouse? ;) I don’t think I could get sick of seeing your girls wearing princess dresses!

  38. NIkki T says:

I’ve been wanting to go back to Disney since I was last there at age…12? That was 15 years ago!
    I can’t wait!!

  39. Elizabeth says:

    Have a wonderful time! :)

  40. Cynthia says:

  41. Jill Shelley says:

Good you are packing us! Besides your children, the laptop is most important. I will love being at Disneyland with you.
I wonder about the pickles though.

  42. So funny. Have a great time!

  43. Ashley says:

YAy!! Have fun, good luck + be safe :) <3

  44. Maureen says:

Pretty sure those might be some of the fanciest princess dresses I’ve ever seen, my daughter would be jealous!

Your list looks a lot like mine when we travel.

Have a great time! Can’t wait to read (and see) all about it! P.S thanks! Now I’ve got that song stuck in my head.

  45. K, this one made me LOL in Starbucks. :-)

  46. i love those pillow pets! they’re soooo soft !!

    don’t think too much! enjoy your vacay and vacay means relax and stay PEASful (;

  47. Emily says:

I love and appreciate every bit of your meticulous packing list because it is just what I do to keep sane before a big trip (and the term sane is really used very lightly). You and the girls and Pea Daddy are going to have such a wonderful and magical time and I cannot be more excited that you will be taking us along with you…it will be a nice break while I am taking grad classes :) Have an awesome time!!

  48. I am totally working on a traveling tips post! Ha! Have fun Peas! Check in when you can!

  49. Dorry says:

  52. Allison says:

Have fun!!! I have never been to disneyland but i did go to disney world a bunch of times as a really really little kid (aka pointless cause i don’t remember anything!) I am sure that the girls will have an awesome time and you will have a good time watching them have an awesome time:)

  53. I love that NiteTime medicine–and totally packed it last time I went to Disneyland (I was sick, not weird). Have a fun trip; I can’t wait to see full views of those beautiful dresses!

  54. chelseY says:

    Have so much fun!!!

  55. Gwen says:

You guys will have an amazing time! We actually live- well without traffic- less than an hour away but I don’t think I’ve been in at least 10 years. I would bring the sneakers just in case, after the first day you may decide you want them. Have fun!

  56. heh heh another fab post from mama pea! you crack me up every time! glad your taking us with you!!

  57. I wore my Borns at Disney and was fine but sneakers are definitely more comfy. Have a fabulous time.

  58. Hooray! I hope this is a wonderful and memorable family trip! Can’t wait to hear all about it :)

  59. Carbzilla says:

OMG – I can’t believe I didn’t send you my WDW Ultimate Packing List in Excel! Such an oversight! Not that I have any doubt you’ll do jusssst fine.

Those Princess dresses are AMAZING! I wonder how many glitter stencils I can get up before Chris gets home from work?

    Safe travels! S’pea you later!

  60. Meghan says:

    Safe and happy travels!

  61. BroccoliHut says:

I went to Disney World last spring break, and I must say, my stock of packed food was very similar–can’t live without my nut butters!
    Have fun:)

  62. Eeeee! I can hardly wait. I love living vicariously through other people’s vacations online. Also, wow to those princess dresses. Consider my entire wardrobe put to shame.

  63. Hayley says:

Have a safe and happy trip! I can’t wait to hear all about it…looks like you are well-prepared! :)

  64. Safe travels for you and your family! Wish we could join the fun ;) We love anything Disney!! We are kids at heart still, LOL

  65. I SWEAR by my Born shoes, as someone with major foot injuries… and if you haven’t looked at their website recently, they have a ton of extremely cute options!!! If only they weren’t so pricey, but I will buy them no matter what since they are literally the only brand that my feet can put up with that aren’t orthopedic looking.

  66. Minus the kids and the book deal that could have been my post! :) HA!

What all do you use the Liquid Aminos on? I got them b/c I heard such good things and I love BRAGG’s ACV. Any ideas for me? thanks!

    FIToriBLOG.com

I mostly use the Aminos on salads and veggies, but it’s also great on popcorn, rice and anything you would put soy sauce on!
