That’s Knot Funny
I love being a stay-at-home mom. I really do. But some days, I feel like my brain is eating itself. And it’s severely malnourished. It doesn’t help that Lulu woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

I am all for letting my children have a sense of control and a sense of identity. But there was no sense behind Lulu’s complaint at 7 a.m. that she didn’t want a Princess pullup, she wanted a Dora pullup. Okay, I’ll let you have that one. But then when you complain that you do not want the Dora pullup that depicts the precocious seven-year old chica with a bouquet of flowers, but that you want me to dig through the 34 remaining pullups to find a Dora wearing a yellow dress? That’s not funny. That’s where I draw the line. That’s when you throw a hissy fit. That’s when I draw the sign.

Lulu decided that if she couldn’t crank, she would prank:

Chewing half a pack of gum when I was making lunch.

Not funny.
Then turning lunch into a jelly finger painting project.

At least she offered to share, but still, not funny.
We needed to get out of the house. I promised to take the girls to the park so they could run around and get out the excess energy that was causing them to wrestle and lick each other, tear open stevia packets and dump them on the counter, and take off that second-rate Dora pullup and walk around without pants for nearly a half an hour. She showed me.
Only when we finally had pants on and headed out the door, we discovered it was pouring down rain.

REALLY not funny.
Plan B: expressing ourselves in dough. We’d done this before. I threw together a batch of Soft Pretzel dough and we got to work.

I went with the traditional twist.

Lulu said she wanted to make a “lawn chair.”

And Gigi said she was going to make “Beezus,” as in Ramona and Beezus. I have to admit, I was pretty impressed.

Lulu’s lawn chair didn’t exactly pan out.

Not funny.
We then boiled the dough.

I was afraid of what would happen when Beezus hit the hot tub.

Beezus instantly became “Bob.”

After 12 minutes of baking…

the day seemed instantly better. Lulu agreed.

Now THAT’S funny.

I too am having one of those days, Mama pea. Hang in there!
Ha! My L gets a big belly when she’s full too.
I’m not having one of those days today, but I’ve definitely had them.
Also, today’s warning is that the remote control My Little Pony Rainbow Dash with an airplane is seriously annoying.
I am thinking some cinnamon sugar pretzels are in order at my house!
So happy to hear I am not the only SAHM losing it! I am not ready for summer to be over, but feeling ready for school to start!
wow beezus is SUPER impressive! well, beezubob. not to be confused with beelzebub.
This post? Super funny! I’ll be spending some quality time with my two nieces and one of my nephews in very close quarters this weekend (read: four adults and three kids in a hotel suite). Oh, and that’s after driving at least three hours in one car together. Perhaps I’ll feel differently after that experience. Your sign cracked me up, though. And I think Gigi has some not-so-hidden talents there!
I think dough makes everyday better!
Those pretzels would make anyone’s life better definitely
Soft doughy pretzels make EVERYTHING better! They look so good!! Makes me want to try making some, but my baking retardedness keeps me from it ;P
oh lulu baby!
hahaha you have me laughing out loud at work as I read your post. Your sign was hilarious!!
Plus who can’t go wrong with pretzels..
There’s just something about little kids lifting up their shirts and revealing their belly that always cracks me up. That and the “Beezus turned onto Bob,” comment…I smiled throughout this whole post.
Way to go on keeping the girls occupied even when cranky!
I meant Lulu…not you!
God Bless stay at home Moms. I was a nanny for 9 hours a day and I lasted 4 months, gained 10 pounds, and slept 5 hours a night. If only I knew about pretzel making back then…
I am so impressed with Beezus…have you taken your kids to see the movie? I was wondering if it is okay for my 5-year-old.
It’s just one of those days. But I love pretzel making. Reminds me of my youth in Germany where we got to see monks make them. But you are way cooler than any monk. You let them eat the dough :=)
Oh my goodness Lulu, too freakin’ cute!!
it rained in salem? seriously? dryyyy here. would like some rain so i have an excuse why i’m not out weeding the yard.
So cute to let the girls make their own pretzel shapes! I know I’ve said this before, but I’m taking mommy notes for when my little boy is old enough to get in the kitchen with me. You have such clever ideas!!
Thank you for making me laugh out loud today. This post was so funny that I finally had to stop being a stalker and finally say something. Your blog is wonderful!
Amazing how food projects can calm kids down so much, isn’t it? Power to the pretzel!
Hilarious post Mama Pea.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Oh Lulu – you are too adorable
Haha you are the best!
I just imagine these days for me in the future. Can’t wait!
Soo sweet! I have been home for 14 weeks and would not change it for the world and I am going to be home from now on with Anna. I am the luckiest girl in the world, I know, but I also know about the brain frying thing. I can’t imagine how fried it will be in a few years!
At least I went from teaching 8 year olds to being at home. You went from being a lawyer to being at home – you go girl!
Every time I ready your blog (so daily) I get excited for when Anna and I can do things like bake and make crafts. While I hope that day doesn’t come for a VERY long time, I so excited she is a girl!
i feel like my gum addiction will come back the instant i become a mama some day
i am such an impatient person. i don’t even like babysitting lol
anyways, cute post! love the last pic haha. your kids are adorable
It’s a stress reliever for me too. I realized it was time to cut back again as after yesterday’s chomp-fest, my jaw is killing me.
Can’t decided if I’m nervous or excited about crank days when I become a mom….what’s the adage about the little moments that make it all worthwhile? At least there’s solace to be had in dough and salt.
I like pretzels, those look really good.
Uh oh
Lulu was having a day! Poor Mommy! I’ve been having a WEEK. School starts for us on Monday, and I must say, I’m looking forward to have “me time” again! Sophia’s in kindergarten this year, so all 3 on the same bus!
I’m glad you were able to find the something that made the day better…and your pretzels look yummy!!!
““Beezus,” as in Ramona and Beezus.”–OMG I havent thought about them in a good 20-25 yrs…I need to get that series for Skylar! Oh I loved those books growing up!!!!!!!
For a 2nd I actually thought Lulu had the chicken pox til i realized it was just finger painting jelly random stuff going on
I was going to have her suck on some lollipops and mail them down here. May as well get that childhood illness outta the way now!
Pretzels. Why oh why can’t I eat gluten. I LOVED soft pretzels growing up (craved my allergens, tons!) anyway, great work
You may run into a few obstacles every now and then, but I gotta say–you do a fantastic job of coming up with things for your girls to do! I want to hang out with you guys and make pretzels!
too cute!! Love pretzels!!
Those pretzels look delicious! I have a serious love for soft pretzels.
Dough is a cure-all for restless children. Looks like the afternoon snack and crafts project served as an excellent back-up plan!
Lovely post, and I think your new header looks great!
Can’t wait to try those pretzels! I love the ones at the mall like Annies Pretzels but I am guessing they are NOT on the I can’t believe its vegan list so I am crossing my fingers that these turn out just as good!
Lulu looks like the Pillsbury dough boy…I want to poke her tummy and squeeze her cheeks! What a cutie pie
Heart the Peas and miss you!
I found your blog two weeks ago, and promptly went back and read the whole thing from the beginning. Wow! I love your blog to pieces! It’s so cute, and funny, and inspiring. You have wonderful children, and it is so great to see how you are raising them healthy!
Thank you so much, Nicole! I am so flattered and proud.
HAHAHAHAHA oh man – sometimes, hearing things like this is the best birth control a gal could need. i do not have the patience of a certain mama pea to withstand that – props to you.
p.s. LOVE the new bloggy layout!
ugh, i just said bloggy.
that is NOT funny.
that is the worst word ever.
Beautiful new layout! Your sarcastic tone is so great!
Love the new look, MP!
Ok, the last picture of Lulu is my (current) all-time favorite. Promise me you will post that in a collage on her wedding day.
Awh, your little girl is too cute! She has the biggest smile. Ps- Love your sign you made
love the new lay out!!! looks perfect!!! hahahaah I love that last pic of her! I agree with lara, def in her wedding collage
she will look back and laugh too (hopefully!!
)
Mama Pea, you do have a gift for making me laugh out loud at your posts.
You are a stitch! I hope you like my blog (and my little girl’s antics) as much as I like yours!
Oh Mama Pea I’m so glad I found you again. I used to read your old blog back in the day — in fact, it was one of the first that I loved!
Can’t wait to read about you and your adorable family again and drool over your eats. This has perhaps made my day!
Hee hee! Since I’m not in your shoes, every episode was funny for me…sorry, Mama Pea! But thank you…I needed some cheering up!
would that pretzel dough work with whole wheat flour?
I made them with half whole wheat pastry flour and half all purpose this time and I didn’t even notice a difference!
I love that! Sounds like you had one of my days lol!
xoxo
OMG. This made me laugh so hard I cried.
