A Pea Says Thank You
I’m sure my mother and Emily Post will cringe as they read this (whattup Em-P?), but I’ve always hated writing thank you notes. It’s not that I’m an ungrateful brat, or at least it’s not only that I’m an ungrateful brat, it’s that I abhor the task of sitting down after a birthday party, graduation or wedding and coming up with a creative way to show the gift giver than I know what it is that they bought for me and then telling them what I intend to do with it. Don’t pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about.
Dear Grandma, thank you for the amazing waffle maker. I can’t wait to make waffles in it.

It should come as no surprise to Grandma that a) she bought me a waffle maker; and b) I am going to make waffles in it. Worse yet, many times these notes are just forcing me to lie to people that I care about because a) I already have a waffle maker that is far more amazing than the one Granny picked up at Walgreens; and b) I am not going to make waffles with it but instead hope to return it to Walgreens for a Snuggie and some Scratch Offs.
Having said all that, this post holds a very different kind of thank you note to you, and unlike the forced unenthusiastic recitation for mediocre gifts, I couldn’t wait to write it. Because, you see, in this thank you note, I get to tell you about a gift that you may not know that you have given me and I get to give you something in return. So here goes:
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for the support and encouragement you have given me in writing Peas and Thank You. It has changed my life. Because of you, I have transformed from a introverted, tired stay-at-home mom in worn-out yoga pants to an enthusiastic vegan chef and writer (who just happens to also be a stay-at-home mom in worn-out yoga pants). Your kind comments, warm emails and continued readership have motivated me to tackle a new and even bigger project, fulfilling one of my lifelong dreams:
I’m writing a book.
Sometime in the next year or so, you’ll be able to go to your local retailer and pick up the Peas and Thank You cookbook in all its glossy color, Pea-filled glory.
It’s not just a cookbook, it’s a cookbook” plus,” featuring completely new recipes with a few old favorites. There will be pictures of delicious Pea Kitchen creations enjoyed by some familiar faces and accompanied by the same kind of ridiculous stories that you read here each day. It’s going to be fabulous. And I’ll still be here blogging away in the meantime. You deserve nothing less.
I hope that this book will be a big step toward showing you my gratitude for the affection you have shown the Pea Family, and that you will enjoy the pictures, stories and recipes in this project as much as I’m enjoying creating them.

Coco, we are hoping to launch in Spring 2011. I hope to do a post about the decision to write a book at some point, but I was encouraged to do so by so many readers and it has always been a dream of mine. Essentially it will be my blog in book form, with new recipes, stories and pictures. And if you want to be a journalist, I say go for it…and then announce it on your blog in a few months!

Did you hear that? That was the sound of Giada’s fist hitting her counter, Betty Crocker turning over in her grave, and Julia (whatever her name is) wishing she would have cooked with more veggies! I don’t even have to tell you how cool i think this is, you already know! This is not a book, this is a continuation of a healthy-family movement that you have started with this blog, and whenever this hits stores, brace yourself for a whirlwind day! No one deserves it more MP! And again, any recipe that i have “attempted” so far of yours has turned out AMAZING (taste-wise), if it wasn’t physically appealing, that was all my fault
Even though i was waiting to hear this for the past few weeks, it still came as a surprise because someone like you should have been published long ago! No law school grad will ever have to settle for a position as a lawyer ever again after they hear your story…

I would say that I’m insanely jealous – but I WON’T because jealously is an ugly trait and feeling…I refuse to be ugly anymore….although I’m a teeny-tiny-teeny bit “Oh God I Wish I had this opportunity”…just a smidgen…;).
Nevertheless – so excited for the book! Do you mind if I ask if you contacted publishing companies, etc. about the book and how long the process took? It just feels hopeless to me. Rejection is everywhere and everything I read sounds so negative about the process and even getting a response – unless you have some crazy unique idea. Let’s face it – I am not Stephanie Meyer (Twilight), Rachel Ray…or Mama Pea
