Postcard from the Peas: Day 2
Alooooo-ha.
We found an incredible beach yesterday and spent the day molesting sea turtles, trying sand infused hummus and hosing off our salty hoo-has in open air public showers.
Since we got a little too much sun yesterday, we headed for a drive up to Waimea today. We kept the girls happy with a movie and personal sized snacks, because if you put dirt in a box with a cute little straw/spoon they’d eat it.
As we headed past Parker Ranch and saw hundreds of future Big Macs munching on sweet Hawaiian grass, I had sympathy pains. Gigi, on the other hand, had stomach pains and promptly vomitted individual sized raisins and mini fruit punch juice boxes all over our car. A $7 can of Lysol and cheap gift shop dress later, we were off to lunch at the Bamboo Palace in Hawi.
Passion fruit margarita? Yes, please. I also had an amazing papaya salad, that was almost worth trying to clean a pukey kid off on the side of an volcano.
We are now taking the least curvy way back to our condo with a not so individually sized $8.50 box of Saltines.
I think it’s safe to say we’ll be hitting the beach tomorrow…and hanging a pineapple scented palm tree from our rear view mirror.

I remember ALLLL the curvy road trips we had around the Hawaii mountains/volcanoes. Whew! If and when I make it back there I will be at the beach–no driving for me!

Poor Gigi! I remember feeling quite queasy on some of our drives through the cruvey roads in Maui. Particularly the Road to Hana. Sounds like she made a come back!

Waimea Bay was beautiful!!, but those roads on the north shore are SUPER curvy!! Not sure if you’re planning on heading to Diamond Head area in/near Waikiki, but we went to an AWESOME smoothie place there… I think it might have even been called “the health food store”. The Acaie Bowls are to die for! oh, and the prettiest beach we went to was Lanikai (sp?)… it was on the east coast… AND the lagoons at KoOlina are awesome, too, because the water is calm and safe to go in!
Love the updates! Looks like a beautiful & fun time! Except for the puke… Blech! That salad & margarita sound like they made up for it, though! Lookin’ hot, Mama!

Poor Gigi! And poor you! My son did that to me in the car once and it was mighty gross! Grape juice, no less. Ugh….

This may sound stupid, but that looks like the exact beach Chris and I went to last year when we were in Kona!! We saw tons of big sea turtles and monk seals. The girls look like they’re having a blast, and you look FANTASTIC!!! That is seriously an understatement….not only are you a great mom, you’re a hot one at that!

I love the margaritas, the fruit, the salsa in danger of getting sanded, the individual baggies of broccoli, how happy Lulu and Gigi look ANNND the vomit! Ok, I don’t love the vomit. But still, every vacation has it’s ups and downs, ha ha.
