2009: Our Year in Pictures

Wouldn’t it be great if you started reading this post and it was just picture after picture of Jon & Kate, Michael Jackson, David Letterman and Tiger Woods?  I guess they were big news this year. And from what I hear about Tiger, he was really BIG news, nudge nudge. (Did I really just say that in my year end recap?  Why yes, yes I did.)

Really though, it has been a truly incredible year in our lives and today is the 1 year anniversary of when I started blogging (don’t call it a blogiversary…Peas & Thank You has only been around for about two months).

So rather than point you to a bunch of old posts which you are locked out of or that you would have to get on Facebook to read, I thought I’d do a quick photo recap of 2009.  This one is going to hurt kids, but I promise, it has a happy ending.

I started my old blog and became vegetarian/quasi vegan. The rest of the family joined me as vegetarians later in the year.

I ran my first half marathon, the Cascade Half-Marathon in a time of 1:49:55.

We celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary.

I ran the Zena Road Races 10K in 48:21.

We visited a butterfly farm.

I ran the Shamrock Run 15K in 1:20:34.

Gigi got a new tutu, proclaiming “There you are, my pretty!” and also took ballet classes.

I received a new bedside photo.

Gigi met her own hero.

Baby Lulu showed what happens when you hit the juice box a little too hard.

I saw my love, Joel McHale in concert.

I ran my second (and final) half marathon, the Race for the Roses in 1:48:37.

We had our family portraits taken the day after I ruptured a disc in my back.  I had a fun visit to the ER that night.

I had back surgery, a lot of drugs and not a lot of memories.

We tried Kombucha for the first time.

We celebrated my birthday in style.

Mother’s Day proved exactly WHY I am a mother.

Gigi turned 4.

We played LOTS of Pincher Pincher, with the girls and without.

We watched my cousin win the State baseball title (photo credit, Brie Mullin).

Lulu sprained her ankle on a trampoline, making us regulars in the ER.

We celebrated Father’s Day and Daddy’s birthday and pretty much just the best dad around.

I dabbled in a high raw diet.

Mimi proved why she is the coolest grandma ever.

I ended my old blog and we escaped to the beach.

Lulu turned 2.

Gigi started preschool and loved every second of it.

We took a trip to the pumpkin patch.

I started Peas and Thank You just in time for Fall.

Gigi and Lulu dressed as a “witch” and a “shy toddler” for Halloween, and I pushed Daddy in the fish pond.

Lulu’s molars tortured her, and she tortured us, perfecting the stink eye.

I showed you my REAL hair.

We enjoyed our times with good friends.

Daddy met his idol, Bill Simmons.

Our heater broke on the coldest day of the year.

Gigi starred in her first school recital.

We celebrated an amazing Christmas together.

We played in the snow and built a new friend.

What a year.  There were a lot of tears shed, but also a lot of pants peed (out of laughter, not bladder weakness). I have learned so much about being a mother, being a friend and living the life I want for myself and my family.   Thank you for sharing 2009 with us.  I know we’ve got a great 2010 in store!

  3. I can always count on Peas and Thank You to make me smile and laugh everytime I read it.

    Thanks for that.

Happy New Year to the whole Pea family!

    All the best :)

  4. Evan Thomas says:

    Looks like a great year!

  5. What a year, Mama Pea! I have a prediction for 2010 – I actually dreamed last night that I met you. I don’t know what context it was that brought me to your neck of the woods, but sure enough the whole Pea family was there! I think there may even have been an Inflatable Kingdom involved.

Whatever happens, I hope you have the happiest of New Years. :)

  6. Whit says:

Oh what a great recap. I love it, and gah Mama Pea you are FAST! Much impressed.

It’s, “Mama Pea, you WERE fast.” Definitely past tense on that one. At least now I have a written record that at one point I actually was able to run. :)

  7. JillyB says:

I busted out laughing when I got to the picture of y’all at the butterfly farm. Gigi’s pose is nothing less than AWESOME.

  8. ooh I saw Joel McHale this year too. I totally forgot to post that in my own recap. I loved his stand up!

A ruptured disc sounds godawful. You make a hospital bed look good though! :)

I am so glad you started blogging again, your posts always manage to improve my mood and make me smile. Happy New Year!

  9. Tiffany S. says:

    Great wrap up!

The remarkable thing (besides Pea Daddy’s face post-Kombucha) is how much Lulu’s grown in a year! Wow!

But Gigi, there’s a girl after my own heart. I love her happy smug mug. I never wanted a sister – let alone an older one – but I think I’d take her (expecially now that I’m way bigger than she is).

I, too, think you’re going to have a fabulous 2010!

(The Mother’s Day mug – no words. Really)

  10. Babycakes says:

Besides my own, you are quite possibly my most favorite family. Happy New Year! :)

  16. Awww…love this post! I would much rather see pictures of y’all than Jon + Kate :-)

Hope you have a happy New Year’s Eve!

  17. Kristie Lynn says:

Cutest pea family ever! Question – what exactly is Lulu dressed up as in the picture from your birthday? A flying purple dragon? :)

  18. lovely flashback, Mama Pea!
Went thru all my mail….muah! on the holiday card :) Can I blog about it in a card compilation photo? I never wanna do anything that would jeopardize identities or be tacky either :)

    Happy 2010!!!!!

  19. What a beautiful year, Sarah. Thank you for sharing some of life’s most memorable journeys – in pictures and in words – with us. :) I totally also love the post-kombucha expression – my parents tried kombucha for the first time in Montreal, also while Dad was at the wheel. We learned not to drink and drive.

2010 is yours! :) Lots of love to little and big peas, all around…

    xo Aletheia
