Thanks so much for the very helpful response. Those are great ideas and it was reassuring to hear how you balance your diet with your life as a mother/wife. I've never been one who can just eat for fuel so the extra work to make my plate different has been worth the enjoyment of eating it. I think others look at my meals with as much curiosity (and some times discust/horror) as I look at there meals. Normal is in the eye of the beholder I guess. Thanks for keeping a humorous perspective on life and parenthood. Keep it up I so enjoy the daily smiles.

Hi,
I've really enjoyed your blog but always seem too busy to comment. I also am vegan and have a 5 year old and twins that are 3. I admire how your raising your kids so healthy but i had a question. I eat similar in that I love huge salads, squash, and beans as I see you frequently use. My kids can get into some of those sneaky smoothies where they can't tell it is healthy however there meals don't look like mine. My dinner looked similar to yours last night but do your kids have plates that look like that. It helps that your husband is also following a similar diet but how do you go about making meals everyone will eat. Do you make what you want and then something a little more "normal" for them. If your kids have plates that look like yours then you should write a book on how to get your kids to eat like that! Anyway just curious how you balance it out in regards to meals mostly dinner type ones. I think your doing an amazing job. Thanks for the inspiration!

<strong>Hi Brooke! Thanks so much for the compliments. I've definitely changed the way I've fed my kids in the last year. When I first went vegetarian/vegan, I'd cook a meat meal for my husband (like beef stroganoff), a kids meal for my kids (like Annie's mac), and one of my not "normal" meals for myself. But since they've gone vegetarian, it's been a lot different. For example, last night, I had my "weird" kale/squash meal, and I had an opened can of black beans, so I made the girls and my husband black bean burgers with squash fries and pear slices. When I had my Reuben salad the other night, they had theirs on rye bread and with cheese. When I eat spaghetti squash, they eat whole wheat pasta. So to answer your question, yes, they do have a more "normal" version of what I'm eating. If you ever need any other ideas, let me know, I'd love to help!

I love your wit.

I, too, tend to imagine my reality as a fantasty, but then I remember how much I love the inconsistent, unpredictable, free form of my life. Always keeps you on your toes! (maybe not away from poopy.... but still.)

Have a great weekend!

My Christmas fantasy... I find a blog so funny that reading it often makes me spray coffee from laughing so hard. Seriously, I keep Simple Green by the monitor.

Those butternut fries looked utterly and complely DEEEEEEEELICIOUS....
