Peas and Thanksgiving
Today was full of preps for our first vegetarian/vegan/completely weaned off of breast milk Thanksgiving. Can I get an amen?! (And a boob job? )
I think now is a good time for reflection on the things I’m thankful for this year. I think I said it best tonight as I was tearily and hastily shrieking to Pea Daddy on the phone (the holidays bring out the best in me):
“No, things aren’t perfect. They can always be better, and there are hundreds of things we would magically change if we could, but we can’t. Thanksgiving isn’t about the things we would fix or that we wish were different, it’s about acknowledging the things that are great and appreciating those things.”
Things like:
- Kids that are willing to try new things (like raw cranberries) even when you’re not quite sure that they should.

- A husband that helps around the house,

looks good doing it,

and loves me curly or straight, orange or pasty, right or more right.

- The ability to replace things that are broken,

and the ability to see past things that aren’t.

- Bountiful food at every meal, that I no longer deprive myself of,

and that I’m privileged enough to be able to share with others.

- Access to, the ability to make and an understanding of the importance of plant based foods for my family on Thanksgiving

- Helping hands,

Even if they are skeptical that this is going to be better than turkey.

- Pickles, and princesses to share them with.

- Healthy, happy babies, babies’ mamas and babies’ daddies.

- Leftover grape medicine

followed by my favorite dessert

- Wonderful friends who support me at doing what I love each and every day (namely being a mom, living a healthy life, writing and basically just being a moron).

I wish I had a better segway to tell you…
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

GOB on his segway!!!! That makes me happy!! I’m thankful for my intelligent, loving, supportive, beautiful friend $arah!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to the Peas!!!!!!!
Observations:
New Food Proc. Shiny, lovely. Enjoy!!!
Your twitter button. I had put on *just* like that about 2 mos ago. About 15% of my readers, wild guess, but about that, couldn’t get thru to comment. Especially if they were running Windows, and specifically using internet explorer version 7. Since you have a fancy schmancy web co. to probably help you with this stuff and you’re on wordpress, it’s likely never gonna give you migraines and 4 letter words like it did me. But hey, I figured it out, got a button that worked, and people could still comemnt. Not that you even care but I am just telling you anyway.
Weaned off breastmilk. New development? I’m down to nursing *just* 3 or 4 times a day. But it’s a labor of love and really, it’s my honor. I am grateful I have given her the best start.
The pic of Gigi holding Lulu when she was a little baby….OMG I just started crying Hallmark tears. What a picture. Lovely. Amazing. Beautiful.
And I hope the lentil loaf works. I manhandled Scott’s bird tonite, it’s brining. How a raw vegan girl knows how to brine a bird, I dont know, but I am trying my best
No lentil loafs here, just kale salad. BAsically, same as any other day LOL
Love you and grateful for our friendship
xoxo
Such cute little faces!
I have no doubt that I’d enjoy your thanksgiving meal above most others
Grateful to you for writing such a happy, healthy and humourous blog,
Emily.
Lulu’s cranberry face is a crack up.
I think this is the first time we have seen you with curly hair! LOVE IT! I bet Gracie did, too
I have no doubt that your Thanksgiving meal will be scrumptious. That is my new favorite word. Scrumptious. I’m currently typing my grateful list, too
Happy Thanksgiving, friend!
That was cute! I just LOVE the baby pics, and Gigi..well, she is just a doll face! Lulu too of course!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too my friend!
I wanted to change my tag cuz for some reason it was showing the wrong blog. This is better!
You are so inspirational! You have so many incredible things to be thankful for and the notion that you recognize and vocie this thanks is truly commendable!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
THis post made me cry- the part about the scale hit close to home, and from there on out I was a mess.
I’m also thankful that I’m educated about food and that I have a family that may throw some good-natured jabs my way but still respects my choices. I’m thankful that I was able to start eating the right way early enough that my little sister is getting to see this side of eating, as opposed to deprivation and guilt.
Have a great holiday with your beautiful family!
You hair looks so pretty curly!
That was a wonderful post
Happy Thanksgiving to the Pea Family!
Way to make me cry, woman. So much cuteness. Can I just say that I love you with curly hair? And did you watch Arrested Development? Best TV show ever!
Happy Thanksgiving, girl! As usual, you kids are beautiful. They make me panic that one day I’ll have non-cute kids. That probably means I shouldn’t have any yet.
Happy Thanksgiving Mama Pea!
You always have THE best hairstyles. Love it!
P.S. – Stupid “submit comment” button. I hit it too soon.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
Mama Pea, I’m a little teary! Have a fabulous holiday with your family. Love you guys.

And I am definitely thankful for pickles, even though I don’t have any princesses to share them with. Wait, my dogs count right???

where the green beans have bacon, everyone likes canned veggies the best, and the first thing josh’s aunt says to his sister is “i’m going to convert you to eating meat while you’re here.”

Happy Thanksgiving, Mama Pea! We’ll be having a Pesceterian Thanksgiving, so close (but no cigar…EW…no cigars!).
And that creation in the loaf pan is ……?
Have a very special day (it’s no Christmas, but what is?)!
The creation is a meatless meatloaf made with garbanzo beans and sunflower seeds. I plan on posting all the Thanksgiving recipes tonight!!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
happy thanksgiving to you and your family..You look great in Curls…
Happy thanksgiving to you and all the other peas. You are truly blessed!
What a beautiful post…I’m thankful to have you in my life. You always bring me so much happiness. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!! Love to you and your family..
PS – Your hair looks so cute!! Is that how it looks naturally curly or did you “help it out” at all? I wish mine curled like that..
Love the post, and I wish you the BEST of Thanksgivings. Can’t wait to hear about the turkey-substitute main dish! I’m sure it will be fantastic.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Love your curls Mama Pea!
We’re going to our annual potluck this year. Definitely NOT plant based, but CD is making his famous (at least to me) Brussels sprout stir-fry. You can always rely on us to bring something green…not covered in those crunchy onion thingies.
Love the photo of Gigi holding her baby sister. So much to be thankful for in your life…’cept a Vita-Mix, but I’m thinking Santa might be bringing you one. Are you reading this Chris!?!
Love to the entire Pea fam!
Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving Mama Pea & family! What a wonderful focus on the great things about the holidays
Happy Thanksgiving, Pea family! And that picture of G.O.B. is the best segue you could ever use. COME ON!
Happy Thanksgiving Pea family!
You are loooooved. I love all your pics, the one with GiGi and LuLu as a baby…. sniff. I also love the pic of that PIE? Oh my heavens. Is there any left? I am coming over if there is a hunk left.
Just a quick few thousand miles for a hug and a hunk. OF PIE. I could bring my own hunk? His name is D. He will need some pie too. Yes, he will survive sans turkey. At this point, we are STUFFED with turkey and will be perfectly happy being vegans for a few.
Love you, love your hair, but mostly just love your HEART. THANK YOU FOR BEING MAMA PEA and my FRIEND. XOXO
Ha, your helping hands are adorable!
Enjoy the rest of your holiday!!
You’re girls are so stinking cute! Yes, stinkin..in honor of the stink face.
They really are beautiful! I love seeing your alternatives to traditional turkey and gravy.
Oh and your hair curly looks beautiful!! Do that more often.
