Pretty Sucky/Still Danged Lucky
This morning I awoke and realized that for everything I could complain about, there are a million reasons to be thankful.
Pretty Sucky: My back pain is back to where it was before my procedure a few weeks ago. I haven’t said anything because no one likes a complainer (unless you put “What’s the deal with ___?” in front of it and your name is Jerry). I’m going to the doctor again in the morning, but today I was painfully aware that while some of our friends are running races, I’m going out for a twenty minute trot on the treadmill.
Still Danged Lucky: I don’t have the trots. And I have more time for 7:30 a.m. tea parties and to make an amazing breakfast.

Pretty Sucky: I’m not going to give you the recipe for these vegan Apple Cinnamon Pancakes quite yet.

Still Danged Lucky: I found this website to show you how to make the hair twists I wore yesterday, and that a few of you sweetly asked for instructions on. I know, I know, it’s fun, but it’s not pancake recipes. Plus, you can’t put syrup on your hair. Well, you could, but you’d just look like Megan Fox at the MTV Movie Awards.
Mmm…Mrs. Buttersworth hair.

Pretty Sucky: We were a few minutes late for church and ended up sitting in front of a very nice gentleman who had the voice of a WCW announcer. He bellowed “The Lord’s Prayer” like he was announcing a cage match: “Our Father, who art in heaven…LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!”
Still Danged Lucky: The Message was spot on today. Plus, Lulu only yelled, “Cock a Doodle Doo, I’m a ROOSTER!” once during the service when she was entertaining herself with “Peekaboo Barn” on the iPhone.

Pretty Sucky: We went to Daddy’s office after church so I could finish working on my writing project, but we had at least four paper jams and I caught another dozen typos. The girls were left to entertain themselves, desecrating Daddy’s sports memorabilia and attempting to guarantee an H1N1 infection by handling, and likely licking, every possible public surface.

Still Danged Lucky: The office candy dish giveth Chick-O-Stick and I taketh away. Plus, my project is D-U-N, done.

Pretty Sucky: I was beyond hangry when I finally got lunch at 3:30 pm.
Still Danged Lucky: New. Sabra. Hummus.

My dad asked me for a list of products I wanted him to order for the store he does HR at, and what daddy’s girl wants, daddy’s girl gets on a silver platter huge salad.

- spinach
- cabbage
- carrots
- pickles
- broccoli
- almonds
- hummus
- organic bbq sauce
Pretty Sucky: I still had a ton of things I needed to do at home: namely laundry, Pilates, hair washing, emails, baking and complaining about the ton of things I needed to do at home. Guess I can check that last one off…along with the baking.

I made Daddy vegan Energy Bars, without the raisins and with double the chocolate chips, per his request.
Still Danged Lucky: While I did my baking and griping, I eavesdropped on Lulu and Gigi playing doctor… in a carseat…in their pajamas…at four in the afternoon.

Lulu: “I’m a doctor!!!”
Gigi (speaking about the reflex mallet): “Grab that thing and come bang me!”
Me (from the kitchen): “That’s what she said.”
Pretty Sucky: I haphazardly threw together a quick dinner, much like I’ve thrown together this post.

Sweet potato wedges alongside:

- spinach
- zucchini
- carrots
- 1/2 a Tofurky Italian sausage
Still danged lucky: The sausage and dinner as a whole was surprisingly delicious and hopefully, you’ve been able to stomach this post. That also means that I’m done early tonight, and there still may be time to play doctor.

Oh, love me some Sabra! Love the picture of LuLu and the bat! Looking forward to the pancake recipe!
I have recently come across your blog and it put a smile on my face everytime
your girls are too cute
can’t wait to read more
I am sooo sorry about the back pain. Best of luck and a great outcome tomorrow at the dr’s.
As for the energy bars…I say skip the raisins and double the chocolate any old day!!!!
xoxo
The back pain stinks. I hope they get it fixed quick. I don’t want you to have to go through any more things related to your back.
I love that your girls can entertain themselves in some funny ways. Kid play is hilarious to watch
Yuck! So sorry to hear your back is acting up again, hopefully you will get good news at the Drs.
All of your food always looks DELICIOUS! I love the big giant salads, that is so the way I like to eat.
I think I might make your energy bars today. Question about the flax + water thing for the “egg”–do you have to let that sit for a while? Maybe that is why it didn’t work for my quinoa crust?
I’m glad you got your project done…and I can’t wait for the recipe for those pancakes!
Those pancakes look incredible. I hope your back feels better!
Ooh may I come for tea next time? It looks like such fun
Dear dear Sarah, please tell your meanie back that you deserve to be treated better.
Dammit why don’t I have a family member who works at a natural food store? Tell me why!
Take it easy kiddo. Hope you get some answers from the doc today.
You have a fantastic outlook on things! I am so sorry to hear about your back pain but I admire how you balance this out with everything else wonderful in your life!
Good for you darling!
You have so much to be thankful for that sometimes, the little mishaps only make us stronger.
Take care and good luck today at the doctor’s. I’ll be praying for you!
Pretty sucky: It’s Monday morning
Still Danged lucky: I can read your blog and instantly get cheered up and ready for the day.
I’m sorry to hear about your back and am keeping my fingers crossed that the pain goes away soon. Glad the tea parties are helping and if anything, Lulu the doctor is on the case
Mm…hummus and barbecue in a gigantic salad. Sounds pretty much perfect to me. Dang girl, you’s lucky!
I hope your doc appointment goes well! Wishing you all the best!
AWWWW I hope the back is an easy quick fix. Don’t like Mama Pea to be in pain although you on pain pills could make for an even funnier post
I love kids they are happy with like nothing…. And yes about everything they say can be turned into a TWSS joke.
I can’t wait to hear about the project.
I hope your back feels better Sarah!
Oh and you’d better be posting that delicious pancake recipe soon! I must make that ASAP!
What a great reminder that we all have minor challenges but as long as we have family and our overall health, that’s the most important thing.
Hope your doctor can figure out something that works longer for you!
What is chick-o-stick, by the way? Is it a hard candy?
I love this post! Finding more to be thankful about always helps me get my head on straight.
As always, your girls are dolls! I love seeing what a happy, love filled life they have. They are SO blessed to have a mom like you:)
Hope your back pain gets better. Good luck at the Dr.
Have you tried Bikram Yoga for the backpain??? My husband I used to go (when we could afford it a few years ago), sad. and It helped keep his backpain at bay (he is a server and spends 12hours on his feet daily).
He actually would run into various professors from his college at Bikram Yoga and they all went because it made their back pain go away.
Plus it burns mad cals – win! Bikram was created by a guy who doctors told him would be paralyzed for life – hes a walking – talking contradiction.
Oh no! Sorry to hear about your back pain. I hope they can do something for you soon to make it go away, hopefully for longer this time.
I LOL’ed at the loud guy at church line
Eek – sorry about your back pain. I hope this appt. is a breakthrough.
Congrats on being DONE!! Can’t wait to hear about it:)
seriously, you, chelsea handler, same person???
sorry about your back! injuries suck. thinking about the positives will get you through though. you have 2 adorable kids and a cute hubby who all love you
and bloggers that you cheer up every.single.day
that megan fox hair is pretty spot on for what my hair looks like if it hasn’t been washed in a day or two… still hate me for my hair? didn’t think so.
I can so relate to your back pain. I have been dealing with knee pain for about eight months now, and I get worried that my knees will stay like this forever unless I get surgery, which usually does not tend to be successful for my condition. I have had injections and physical therapy, and they still ache and hurt at the end of the day. And I want to get back to my hard core exercising and lose more weight. So I understand. I hope you let us know how the appointment goes.
And if you are writing any kind of book (whatever that writing project is!), let us know. I will definitely buy it!
I’m so sorry about the back pain, but you manage to make me laugh anyway. I think Lulu is my younger sisters twin. The ‘stink-eye’ and church entertainment is priceless.
Okay, my heart melted at the sight of your husband with your girls at their tea party! Blessed! BTW he will use that picture against you if you get mad at him…
Lulu playing doctor at such a young age… Definitely your child =}
So sorry to hear your back is acting up again!!! Suck!! Let me know what you need me to do!!
And then tell Papa that I need some hummus STAT!!
I’m really sorry to hear about your back pain. Are you going to see someone about it maybe?
yay for sabra and writing projects
we’re almost out of hummus, and it makes me sad.
Sorry about your back. Hope Daddy is giving you a nice long rub-a-dub every night.
I think the BIGGEST pretty sucky is that we didn’t get that pancake recipe.
Kidding of course (although I’d love to get it) the biggest pretty sucky is your back – I hope it feels better!! Sorry about all you’ve had to go through with it!
sorry about your back lady – hang in there! i am sending you lots of love and good karma. and yes, there is a lot to be feeling lucky about – esp those two cute lil’ punkins of yours!
have a wonderful day!
Greek olive hummus, Um, yum. I just kissed Sabra good-bye in my latest post, but might have to try this new flava if I can find it.
Glad your writing project if finally done, and hope you got in some patient/doctor time last night.
I am sorry your back is hurting!!!!
Your salads always make my mouth water!
Boo about your back
Pretty sucky: Megan Fox.
Still danged lucky: Megan Fox.
Feel better madam!
Ok I’m going to have a little winge(complain, whine in australia) too- Sucky: I can’t even do a 20 minute trot. Lucky: I have legs thats work. Sucky: I can’t eat anything except blended chicken. Lucky: I can at least eat blended chicken! I feel better now
What is Chick o stick anyway? I’ve seen it before but never knew what it was, is it like candy that tastes like chicken? Why would you want such a thing?!!
When do we get to find out about this big writing project missy? I don’t like secrets!!
Love love xoxo
p.s. Crappiness on the back feeling shiV again- praying for you to have peace with God’s sovereignty and rest that He knows why this is going on and that it’s going to be used for good. Amen!
MamaPea!!!! I am so sorry about the wretched back pain’s return! I wish I had a solution, really. Again, I’d be more than happy to babysit so you can chill/blog/play doctor. Whatever
Apple cinnamon pancakes sound phenomenal. I have no idea how on top of a huge writing project, church and kidlets, you manage to make pancakes, bake and make fabby lunches and dinners. My hand would be in the Triscuit box and the new Sabra tub for dinner. Speaking of, that olive flavor is ridiculously good.
You asked what I’ll be doing for Thanksgiving! Well, I’ll be alone in NYC
The family will be in Cinci, though, and I’m sure they’d love guests.
I send hugs and my love! xoxo
Best. TWSS. Ever.
I really hope the doc can do something for your back. I’ll be thinking about you Mama Pea!
um, seriously quit whining about your back.
JOKE!
can i come over and play? Cause you guys have way more fun all day than I do
awww im sorry your back hurts. please dont run if it hurts! do you have a place to swim?
Please share that recipe, they look wonderful.
You are seriously amazing and I really adore your blog. I like that every single post is different and you have such variety and creativity.
Good luck with the appointments and all, I really hope your back gets better soon xx
I hope you feel better darling!!!
XOXO!!!
Is that a Buck Williams glass I spy on on Daddy’s desk???? I do believe I have that one, as Buck will forever be my favorite Blazer!
As soon as I saw that “come bang me” line I thought, “That’s what she said!!” before I read what you wrote. Of course I’m sure you meant for that to happen, but it still had me laughing. I wish I could “throw together” posts as good as these! I also wish I could throw together salads as well as you do that still come out looking pretty and appetizing at the same time. Mind usually ends up looking like a mess but I guess so long as it tastes good!
Please take care of your back…I am so sorry you’re in pain again.
So sorry about the back pain. I hope the doctor’s appointment went well!
You always bring a smile to my face, but I think you already know that!
Ummm, so I read this post in the morning, read this again just now, and the facts are the facts: I am still drooling over your vegan pancakes. Yes, I love me some fluffy apple cinnamon pancakes.
Oh Mama Pea, I hope your back feels better for now. If it helps at all though, it’s an encouragement for those of us (read: ME) who don’t/can’t even consistently do 20-minute trots in the morning, to see how great you are without having to log 10 miles in the morning (followed by hours of weights in the afternoon, etc.). Nonetheless, I hope you’re back in optimal form soon!
I agree you are one lucky mama. I simply love reading your blog- an instant smile comes across my face everytime.
I hope your back feels better soon my lady.
I really like your blog. You inspire me so much. I have a tough time right now and you help me to manage a smile.
A question: do you eat the treats that you create?
Must admit, that is pretty sucky that you didn’t reveal your pancake recipe…but I suppose I can wait;)
Never tried the Tofurky sausages–do you recommend it?
Hey, you are gonna beat this back thing. I know it’s hard
You have a great support system though. ::hugs::
Well my dear, it’s a few mins before Midnite and as much as I cannot wait to see the PB Cups post…I need to sleep. Will catch the loveliness in the a.m.
2nd batch…I am sooo all about it
xoxo
I’m sure you’ve already tried this, but do you currently see a chiropractor? My father is one and I could definitely ask him to recommend one in your area. It really makes a difference who you see and it’s something you could continue even after the surgery. Seems in line with your philosophy. Hope you feel better!
