What I Learned From My Kids Today
If you run out of cinnamon rolls, it’s just plain fine to eat icing for breakfast.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

- heated Honeycrisp apple
- cinnamon
- Kashi Go Lean
- Pumpkin Spice Granola
Don’t ask Daddy to take pictures for the blog. He will take only one photo, and make it as unflattering as possible.

The only reason to take a shower is if you smell bad or you think you might get some your mom tells you to.

Don’t let obstacles stand in your way: a moving car is a fine place to play hide-and-go-seek…or give yourself a facial???

Don’t be afraid to try something new. Even if it’s not Sabra, it can still be tasty.

Sometimes it only takes two to party, especially if that party involves wearing pajamas in the middle of the day.

If you make a vegan baked good, we will want to help, and a tutu is perfectly suitable cooking attire.

Vegan Energy Bars
- 2 c. quick cooking oats
- 1/2 c. whole wheat pastry flour
- 1 t. baking powder
- 1/2 t. salt
- 1/4 c. raisins
- 1/4 c. chocolate chips
- 1/2 c. nut butter (I used peanut butter)
- 1/4 c. maple syrup
- 1/4 c. granular sweeter (I used NuNaturals Stevia Baking Blend)
- 2 T. ground flax seed + 6 T. water
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine flax and water. Set aside. Combine all dry ingredients in mixing bowl.

Stir in raisins and chocolate chips. In a separate bowl, combine syrup, sweetener and nut butter and mix until smooth. Combine nut butter mixture with flax/water mixture.
Add wet to dry ingredients and mix well.

The mixture will be drier than Sarah Silverman in Death Valley, but just keep stirring.

Press the mixture into an 8 x 8 pan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Bake for 15 minutes.

Allow pan to cool slightly, then cut into bars and transfer to a cooling rack.

We will beg you to take a picture of Ben Dover. We share the same creative vision as Daddy when it comes to photographic artistry.

It’d be funny to pretend we were pouring over an US Weekly, debating if Paris or Kim K. wore it best,

but really we are doing flashcards. We have better things to do with our time than read your trashy magazines.

We will eat anything if you put the word “hummus” in the recipe’s title and cover it with ketchup.
Hummus Veggie Burgers
- 1 can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 t. minced garlic
- 1/2 c. chopped vegetables (I used grated carrots, chopped celery and green onions)
- 2 T. cilantro
- 2 t. reduced sodium soy sauce
- 1 T. tahini
- 2 t. grill seasoning
Combine all ingredients except beans in food processor until finely minced.

Add beans and pulse several times, but do not blend until smooth.

Put mixture in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Coat a skillet with non-stick cooking spray and place over medium high heat. Form mixture into four patties and cook for five minutes on each side.

Mommy’s orange.

Newman’s Alphabet Cookies make a fine snack while blogging.

Even kids like to Shred. It’s not about how many calories you burn, it’s about having a good time.

Hi Mama Pea…I have never commented before, but I just love your blog (and the previous
). You give such great recipe ideas and I hope I have as much fun with my kids as you do. Thanks for the laughs!
Love it! What a great day with your kiddos, I always love seeing their unique sartorial choices. A tutu for baking? Of course!
Those chickpea burgers look SCRUMPTIOUS!
Very cute post!! My hubby would probably take the same pic LOL. Question for you…what brand of Tahini do you use? I’m beginning to think I’m using the wrong kind. I’ve been using the refrigerated one from TJ’s….but I’m thinking i’m supposed to be using a jarred kind. Thx!
I’m glad I’m not the only lunatic, I mean mother who grabs some peaceful screentime when she can get it: 12a-1am after everyone else is quiet. Finally.
Give you a day off and you come at us with cinny rolls and then vegan energy bars & the hummus burgers? Nice! Take days off more often! The vegan bars look done enough without even baking them and I would have just skipped the oven. Set em on the counter in the bone dry air here and call it a day. However I like my baked goods falling apart raw….I guess maybe that’s why I am a raw un-baker, huh! I am impressed with the uber clean cut lines of the bars. You must have a nice sharp knife. A Henckles Santoku 7 inch is my latest knife but it’s just ok. I am always up for a good knife rec.
Tomorrow nite I am posting a tahini salad dressing I think you’ll go enjoy!
Yoga job looking good and I ummmm just built and entire freakin website in a day. Wow. Bedtime
goodnite Pea. Wish we could grab S’Bucks in the a.m. together!
omg ya’ll are too cute! The food looks fab i need to make those burgers!! That video is giving me flashbacks of my sis, mom and i and jazzerize videos!!! omg!!!! LOVE it!!
Ahaha omg the kids doing the shred…they’re adorable!
Also, hummus veggie burgers? Yum!
sooo cute. You should totally tweet that video to Jillian Michaels. I bet she’d get a kick out of seeing your girls crack up while “doing” her video.
Have a beautiful day!
Your vegan energy bars look delish!!
Those burgers look SO GOOD!
OH my goodness, the video is beyond adorable! My sister and I use to dance around to my mom’s old Oliva Newton John exercise records just like that. We had such a blast dancing around to “Lets Get Physical!” THis brought back so many memories.
Great recipes! LOL I Love those hot pink shorts
And frosting for breakfast should be on the daily. Oh and I TOTALLY ate buttercream out of the container in the freezer the other day don’t judge it was yummy!
Hummus burgers? YES PLEASE!!! I’m going to need to try a new kind of veggie burger soon, as we’re too broke to keep buying boxed ones!
Your energy bars look awesome! I am definitely going to be making them soon. Your girls are too adorable in that video too! Love your blog.
Great post, I love the video. I think the girls’ jumping jacks look a lot more fun than real ones!
I think you could put hummus on a coat hanger and it would still taste great, but those burgers look delicious! (However, the coat hanger might require less preparation.)
Gigi is going to be rockin’ the Jillian bod in no time!
Love that your girls like to do workout videos:)
Those energy bars sound very good!
The shots of you exercising with the girls make me so happy – they have the best role model EVER!
Ok, you’ve sold me. I’ll TRY TJs, so long as I can keep it under wraps. I don’t want to hurt Sabra’s hummotions.
I should delete that terrible joke, but instead, I’ll leave it in hopes that its unwittiness at least gets a chuckle out of you.
PS I spy SnackFace action
I have to try some of your vegan baked goods one day! They all look and sound delicious.
Also, is it weird that instead of trying to fall asleep last night, I thought about eating a salad with sweet potato fries and a chickpea burger for dinner tonight? Great minds, right?
My boyfriend takes unflattering pictures of me too. They think it’s “hilarious”….unfort. I don’t. Is your hubby a funny guy?! You have such a great sense of humor!
Ahh! That video is the cutest thing in the world. Little girl giggles are the cutest! And Lulu’s movements are adorably hilarious.
OK, I think I need some hummus burgers in my life!
Have a fantastic Tuesday, Mama Pea!
i was totally thinking of having icing for bfast too.. except mine has baileys in it
haha why are husbands so bad at taking blog pics? the pilot has a knack for making me look like a have a wicked double chin
hope you have a wonderful day!
I’ve been reading your blog for a few days and I seriously adore it. You crack me up and your kids are adorable! Also, the cinnamon rolls you made yesterday? I am dying to try them, they look fantastic. Definitely baking them up this weekend!
hahaha…one quick question however: where did you get that brown sweater you were wearing in the last post? ADORABLE!!!
guys never cease to amaze me with their lack of photography skills, even though most of them claim to be techies
i think i have said this before but i will say it again, if i am ever in your neck of the woods, i will totally babysit for gigi and lulu, free of charge, minus those burgers, which i do want as payment
You should always wear a tutu while baking…isn’t that what we all do! The granola bars and burgers look delicious! I love cooking with my kids too. It seems to make it that much more fun!
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your blog. it is hillarious. Where do you buy the NuNaturals Stevia Baking Blend? Do you order it on-line? Does it have an after taste?
Oh mama I missed you! I’m glad to see that the Peas are still going strong and learning from one another.
But where’s Daddy’s Ben Dover picture? hee
I love your blog! Just found you through Krista’s Kravings.
I just got some NuNaturals Stevia. I might have to make those energy bars
Kim K. wore it best!
Look at your knees! I love it! Olive Oil!! hahaha
~Justine
I’m with Andrea. It’s time to get Daddy back with a Ben Dover picture.
My goodness you JUST learned that’s it’s fine to eat icing for breakfast. I have known this fact for a very very long time
Those hummus burgers look delish!
OMG! That video. Your girls are too adorable!
And today I learned that the Pea family has really nice hamstrings.
what a cute post
I love Lulu’s face eating that icing!!!
There is so much in this post I don’t even know where to begin.
1) I need to find this roasted chickpea recipe. I am on a mission. This will make my night, I think.
2) Those Vegan energy bars are calling my name too.
3) Hummus Veggie burgers? My goodness. Three amazing eats in one day. How DO you do it?
4) Watching that short video made my morning. It’s all about fun and laughing
LOL–my husband loves to take those same shots!
I love the video of you guys–I tend to look more like Lulu when trying to keep pace
Oh man I’ve got to stop doing the Shred when the girls are sleeping. They need to get in on the Jillian action!
At first I wondered how you managed to get a picture of me eating icing in my jammies but then I realized oh yeah, that’s not me.
Yum those vegan energy bars and the hummus burgers look great! Love the Ben Dover pics, too funny
What I have learned from Mama Pea’s kids today:
Life is so beautiful and sweet.
The girls are adorable. I want them to come do the shred with me, maybe I would do it more often if I had a whole team to do it with.
The new TJ’s (almost sabra) hummus is creamy. I like it, did you?
Haha, I usually spice and sweeten my greek yogurt at breakfast so much, I’ve convinced myself it’s frosting
I swear, you come up with the BEST recipes ever. Here’s another 2 that I have to try. Thanks, Mama!!
Ahhhh how adorable!! My little sister used to do tae bo with me, and then get down and do bicycle crunches. It made me laugh so hard I could never get anything done
Your recipes all look SO GOOD! I need to copy and paste them asap.
Love love love the video…more in the future, pretty please?
Hope you have a wonderful day! xoxo
Oh, yummy recipes! The thigns we learn from kids are so valuable–especially the everyday lessons like these
Thanks for the lovely comment on my blog the other day. I was so excited to hear from you and share your thoughts regarding the “good book.” Work it mama! xoxo
Oh my…your and Gigi’s laughs have me laughing…I absolutely love watching them bounce around in that video. Too darn cute..
The shots of all your tushies are cute, too!! It’s obvious you’re a family who takes good care of themselves.
I MUST make those granola bars!!
And yet another of my Disney nightgowns! It really is too bad that I didn’t get to know you two years ago, as I got those suckers for $1!
(Notice the $ sign BEFORE the 1.) I’m so good at grammar.
Hope you’re having a great day!
Your girls make me giggle so much.
That video reminded me of my cousins wanting to do yoga with me. They were falling and giggling all over the place and having way more fun than I was in my plank pose. So funny
I love the video, so cute! I hope someday my future children will work out with me…
I love the frosting for breakfast and I’ve tried your cereal/apple/cinnamon bowls before. Simple and yet so amazing.
Have a great day!
Question about the orange fries….I see you have carrots and sweet potatoes but I don’t know what the half moon shaped ones are. Are they butternut squash? How do you prepare them and how long in what temperature? Do you put oil on them, s and p? I want to be orange! Appreciate everything about your blog!
Hey hey hey, this is all well and good but i think i speak for everyone when I say I can do without Paula Dean in a tutu….
Lots of good lessons learned…and i wish I had those moo cow pj’s.
Hilarious as usual!!! Love the girls doing The Shred with you!
I learned if I play your SWEEEET cute little video with JJ in the room he will make a Bee line to my laptop to see what all the giggles are about!
he said “again” like 4 times!
I was thinking Kim wore it best until I noticed her pedicure flip-flops. Who wears a designer dress to get a pedicure?
I am LOVING TJ’s Smooth and Creamy hummus. So good…I like it better than Sabra. If only I could buy it in bulk.
Hummus veggie burgers…now you’re talking!
P.S. My Chris always tried to take pictures like that whenever I ask him to play photographer. Silly boys.
I’ve just stumbled on your blog and think it’s hilarious! your family is gorgeous, love the costumes!
I have the same baking blend but I’m a little wary about using it… did you get an aftertaste?
So I’ve decided that you are the queen/goddess of awesome homemade burgers and fries. Can’t wait to try these burgers with some tasty carrot fries:)
thanks for the bar recipie!! your family is so beautiful! i love this blog!
Just catching up–that home video is so adorable. Their little laughs make me smile
And you have such an enviable figure, Mama!
I just found your blog through a recipe that NuNaturals sent me! I just made your vegan energy bars and they are fantastic, thank you so much for the awesome recipe, they will be delicious to put in my lunch box.
Oh my gosh how adorable are your girls?! That is like the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!
And I’m totally making those Vegan Energy Bars! They look amazing!
Hello, Sarah! THANK YOU for doing what you do! I just made these bars & they are AWESOME!!
We are recent vegetarians moving toward vegan. Your website is helping me learn how to cook vegan & I am very thankful for that. These are healthy bars that my kids will actually eat & that is an accomplishment. My kids are very picky (a 4 year old & 3 year old twins) & making food that they will eat that is not processed is an every day trick. Some successful….some not so much. Thank you for making it a little easier.
I can’t wait for your book to come out (and neither can my husband…he’s tired of hearing me whine about it!).
Thanks, Diedhre. Good for you for feeding your family right! Stick with it…they’ll come around!
i have found a new staple food for my house! i LOOOVE the vegan energy bars! thank you so much for sharing! i adapted it a little b/c i didn’t have chocolate chips but i did have cocoa powder…so i put in a TBSp. in the dry mixture…& i didn’t add the raisons. OH WOW! it was delicious! the taste reminds me somewhat of those yummy no bake cookies that my mom would make. i am training for a half marathon so i have found that these energy bars give me just what i need before a long run. blessings, my friend! ♡
So glad you love them! Good luck with your training!
