A Lack of Supervision
The good news is today was a really productive day. My house is immaculately clean. Well, let’s be honest, my house is no longer Child Protective Services bait. Or is it? You see, in order to get things done, my children are sometimes left to their own devices.
After my run this morning, I had a very important phone call, which meant that breakfast had to wait. Don’t worry though, Lulu started bellowing for “Bunny GWAMS!!!” at 7 a.m. this morning. I resisted for awhile, but apparently all it takes to get what you want from me is repeating something 32 times. I told this to Daddy, but I can’t tell you what he then repeated to me 32 times. This is a family blog.
She knew she got away with something.

After I got off the phone, I made us all smoothies. Here’s my SIAB (Smoothie in a Bowl) ala Kath.

- 1/2 c. frozen mango
- 1 c. frozen strawberries
- stevia
- almond milk
- ~1/3 c. Kashi Go Lean
Here’s Lulu’s SIAB (Smoothie in a Blankie).

I was less than thrilled. I realized it looks like vomit, but I would never put vomit on my blog. I have standards. They might be low, but they are standards nonetheless.
But washing the blankie released the cleaning monster in me, so I got to work cleaning the house from top to bottom. In the meantime, there was definitely a lack of supervision.
They groomed themselves.

Lulu obviously doesn’t subscribe to my rule of, “Never let someone with worse hair than me do my hair.”

They dressed themselves.

They held dance parties to songs with inappropriate lyrics.

Gigi turned on my clock radio. I have no idea what station it was tuned to (I haven’t needed an alarm clock in, oh say, 4 years!), but “Ya Down With O.P.P.?” started blaring out of the radio. Apparently that’s a big hit with the preschool crowd because they were totally into it. I think Gigi misheard the lyrics and thought they were saying, “Ya Gotta Go Pee Pee?” because that’s promptly what she did. Lovely.
They did “Lord knows what, but it looks terribly unsafe.”

They fed themselves.

“Frickin frackin jar!!!”

“I GOT IT!!!”

“Alright! Pickles!!!”
I did get all the cleaning done and eventually got us all a balanced and pickle free lunch.

My tasting plate had leftover Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas, Sesame Orange Tofu, carrots, salsa, broccoli and BBQ sauce.
Guess how I reheat my tofu?

Genius.
The girls and I spent the afternoon running errands and came home and threw together a quick dinner.

BBQ Chik’n Salad
- spinach
- carrots
- cucumber
- 1 Morningstar Chick’n Grillers Patty, chopped
- pineapple tidbits
- BBQ sauce
I had some kabocha fries on the side.

Now I’ve got to clean tofu out of my toaster. Wait, who’s watching the girls?!?

I reheat my tofu the same way!
Hahahaha smoothie in a blanket–oh dear! I would die to babysit these two munchkins! Looks like a party
I rather enjoy 10:30 these days because it means I get a good clever laugh from pretty much my favorite blogger of the moment. Where does this wit come from? How did I never know of the old blog? Clearly I was missing something.
OMG the commentary of your day!! From the hair rule, to opp, to the pickles. And your food pics always remind me that I should not read this at 10:30 because I clearly do no need to eat at this time. But the pictures make me hungry! I should save reading this before I make my own lunch!
Exposing them to all the healthy media + letting Lulu cry over spilled SIAB? Gosh what kind of mama are you??
Thanks for the great pics, love your toaster idea!!
“Ya Gotta Go Pee Pee?”
THAT was good. I dont need an alarm clock either. Sigh. Between the sun and a 2 yr old, sleeping past 630am is a luxury from a former life.
Smoothie in a blanket. And you’re so calm rather than cleaning it, you grab your camera to photo it, first. Then clean. That’s True Blogger Status, I tell ya.
I think I am gonna make the chickpeas tomorrow, they have my curiosity piqued.
Today after reading Alison’s post last nite bout hot chocolate and then reading your comment on her post…I made a really cheap bastardized version, but it sure hit the spot.
Nitey nite. I think the sick germs have hit our house……could be a very long (not in a good way) weekend.
I hope you have fun trick or treating w/ your girls. I know the candy fairy will come and take all their candy the next day in exchange for a toy but hopefully the process is fun!
Your SIAB looks really very pretty ~ as immaculate as your clean house perhaps?
Your girls are gorgeous – love the dancing!
Have a good day.
I love Lulu’s face while GiGi is dressing her. It’s like, “Okay, sis…whatever.”
I mean that in the best possible way. Seems like a lot of FUN goes on!
I would love to just be a fly on the wall in your house on fun, random days like this
..scratch being a fly. I want to join in on that dance party!
HAHAHA! I love their dance party and I think the improvised lyrics are definitely new and improved.
I am totally going to put my tofu in the toaster from now on, that is genius.
Your salads always look delicious.
Oh, I definitely thought that was vomit. Glad it’s not.
Productive days are always so refreshing.
Haha, now that’s a real dance party! Move over DWTS, LuLu and GiGi have just invented a whole new level of dance entertainment!
Glad you were able to get a lot done today, depsite the little mishaps along the way!
Have a lovely Friday dear.
I have the same rule when it comes to my hair. Fortunately few people have hair worse than me
The girls are too cute. They’re setting the standards far too high for my as yet non-existant children
I can’t tell you how many times Chris just asked, “What? What? What?” I was cracking up throughout your entire post. I love the picture of Gigi and Lulu dancing and creating a bus (??) in the living room.
The pickle jar face is classic…
I got so exited when I saw you reheated your tofu in a toaster…until you said you had to go clean it out. Oh well! It IS genius!!
You’re so awesome.
Awww so cute! This is why I want to work with kids. They maybe be more safe w/o momma
They look like they can handle themselves. Creative like their mom too. Have a Happy Halloween with the girls! I think holidays are always more fun (and hectic) with kids.
Oh my gosh, that was too cute. Your girls crack me up.
omg that picture of them playing with the barbies and the chairs is hilarious!
“Ya Gotta Go Pee Pee?!” LMAO
LOL! Great post as usual.
Gigi is a wonderful big sis. She does a great job taking care of Lulu;-).
I’ve always been afraid of burning the house down if I ever used the toaster for anything but bread, but you seem to have been successful so I think I’ll give it a try. And I wish my mom had let me highjack a giant jar of pickles at some point. Then maybe I wouldn’t have gone 15 years of my life thinking that I hated pickles. I actually love them a whole lot now.
I am so glad you are back – I just started following before you left the other place so I’m so pleased to get to read your posts again. Your posts really do have everything, but most of all, they all come with full on belly laughs. I love reading every day!
I love the “who knows what” comment. Reminds me of my cousins. But at least they had fun
Oh no! Not smoothie in a blanket!!
Your girls should start altering the lyrics to other raps songs and make them kid-appropriate.
Tofu in the toaster = genius. I’m all for instant gratification so I’m going to have to use that trick.
The pickles picture? I died! That exactly how I look when I try to open salsa everyday.
Oh my…hilarious…between being a veterinarian, a pediatric dentist, a hairstylist/salon owner, and a go-go dancer, Gigi is clearly on to something in this new economy.
Remind me to tell my husband 32 times that I need a new car. If it works for Lulu, it can work for all of us !!!
Your posts always cheer me up and are cute little stories with you and your beautiful girls!
Love the pickle jar, that looks like something I would have done when I was little, I drank the juice though too!
lol siab. funnyyy
i love your food.
i heat my tofu like that too.
Haha, toasting tofu is such a hilarious yet great idea! I need to remember that for my dorm
Tofu in the toaster? Genius!
Maybe the girls are trying to build a NYC subway. If Lulu spilled her smoothie on those chairs, it would be pretty accurate.
how do you get your tofu out of the toaster? that is the question. =D
whoa. that is a damn big ass jar of pickles. DAYUM.
Tofu in the toaster! You should have put some beets in that other slot. Opportunity wasted!
The tofu reheating tip is awesome!
Love the SIAB. We have been having a lot of “strange-colored” juice lately that the toddler insists on drinking while walking around the house. So now I find strange, brown spots everywhere…
I really really needed a laugh and picturing the OPP dance was perfect.
I love SIABS!
Do you have any special tricks for peeling kabochas? Since I’ve been able to eat again- the only thing I can tolerate is squash. Yes, that’s all. Spray tan? Me? No just squash! Anyway it takes me about 30 min’s to peel those damn things!! The skin is so tough. I wouldn’t dare trying to eat it since I can hardly tolerate the flesh but just curious if you’ve got any good tricks!
AHA! Your secret is out! You asked for it:
Request #1: Please come to NYC for a visit.
Requests #2-32 to come.
Freakin hilarious! Yes, I also subscribe to the “never let someone with worse hair than me do my hair” haha but it still worked out great for your girls, I see! Precious!
Love the pickle picture! Awesome
LOL omg i LOST it when i saw the Lulu/pickle picture – I’m crying I”m laugh so hard! You guys seriously need your own show!
(also – every single time I type the girls names – I type their “old blog” names
But I always correct myself!)
Piickles. Mmmm.
I reheat my veggie burgers in the toaster too. It’s genius.
Tofu in the toaster – that’s great.
I’m the same way. As soon as I start cleaning one little thing, I will spend the next 5 hours scrubbing the house from top to bottom.
CD has tried the repeat 32 times thing…doesn’t work.
That was hilarious! I LOLed at the “Ya Gotta Go Pee Pee!” comment. Actually, literally, ‘laughed out loud’, which I don’t think happens very often when people use the term ‘LOL’ anymore…
Your blog is genius. How have I never read it before? Such cute girls and the food — mmm, chickpeas.
tofu in the toaster in genius. so is that snack plate of love. it looks sooooo good.
those girls are just too dang cute..they look so happy and well-adjusted. even if they spill vomit all over the place
You never fail to give me a belly laugh when I need it.
Fricken frackin jar…and it was all over.
THANKS
I can go back to my uber under controlled life now.
(yeah RIGHT)
Think I’m going to save that top photo of Lulu as well as the third dancing picture– they made me “awww” aloud. To myself. In my empty house. And they make me hope and pray I have such joyous, adorable kidlets someday.
I’ll babysit if the girls need some supervision! Love you
I have to tell you – I tried the sesame tahini dressing – OMG – honestly I was literally taking spoonfuls of it and shoving it in my mouth!! LOVE IT! I love the girls dance party, so cute!
Come check out my blog – I am giving away Glo Bars – you and the girls must try them!!!
Have a great weekend!
xoxo
Ah man, that song takes me way back. We actually have a “Generation X” radio station where I live and they play that all the time, ha ha.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO THE GIRLS (&AND TO YOU!)
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
Your smoothie in a bowl looks yummy!
Can’t wait for a Halloween recap
Gosh. I feel like a kid now, because I just wanna jump in and play with your girls! tee hee!
And you ARE a genius! What a great idea to “toast” tofu!
Snuffy loves hip hop too. She hears the first few notes of what she calls “Boom, Boom” (Black Eyed Peas) and she starts to sing along and dance! Why does your Chick’n Salad look ten times more appetizing than chocolate cheesecake?
Yay for pickles!! We salty sweaters gotta keep up our sodium stores;)
Love the idea of toasted tofu.
Can I just say how excited I am to make that chickpea recipe over thanksgiving break?? Well, i am sooo excited
Please keep all of the recipes coming! Since you’ve been back i’ve bookmarked like 10 of your meals (no matter how technical or simple), just to let you know
Toasted tofu?! Genius! I already started toasting my veggie burgers after reading that you did it. Unfortunately, our toaster has broken and that man of mine hasn’t fixed the problem yet!
Glad Lulu didn’t have the real pukes, but too bad for your smoothie!
I LOVE that you use the toaster like that! SO DO I. I always reheat sunshine burgers, corn tortillas, etc. Anything that fits, amirite?
hahahaha I’ve found my new preferred method to read your blog, which entails just pressing the down arrow for the whole page….it’s like some strange, foodie, bathing suit, costumed, food dribbling, cartoon-toddler-devil, naked beckham’s hallucinogenic joy-ride ;D
But for serious, your Halloween week sounded fab, and I hope Lulu’s moodiness is on the downward swing- at least for….8 years maybe??
Love yaaaa!
