While You Were Sleeping

This morning I awoke to hear a cackle coming from Gigi’s room.  There is no better time than 7:30 a.m. on October 17th to try on your Halloween costume.  Again.

Once Gigi informed me that she was in fact her in disguise and not an actual witch, I made a quick breakfast.

  • ~1/3 c. Kashi Go Lean
  • 1 peach, sliced
  • cinnamon
  • ~2 T. Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Granola

I had some coffee with almond milk and stevia, and then headed out to the gym, otherwise known as our garage.  We cancelled our gym memberships this month to pay for this little thing called “private preschool.”  Sigh.

I ran on the treadmill for a half an hour, which sadly was shy of 3 miles, and then did some upper body weights while trying to figure out just exactly how much crack Lady Gaga was smoking when she made the video for “Paparazzi.”

After my workout, I came in and dumped all sorts of chemicals on my head.  A girl’s got to cover her greys and I decided to go with a new look for a new blog.

Dramatic.

A high raw, vegan lunch will cleanse those chemicals from my system, right?

My mess of a salad had:

  • spinach
  • cabbage
  • broccoli
  • carrots
  • pickles
  • 2 Trader Joe’s Soy Nuggets, chopped
  • Sesame Dijon Tahini Dressing from ED&BV
  • Trader Joe’s Organic BBQ Sauce

After lunch, we piled into the car for a fun little outing.

Daddy drove.

I yelled,  “BOOBS!” to get him to smile.

Gigi and her unicorn made the trip.

And LuLu….well, LuLu did this:

Daddy had been wanting to go to a pumpkin patch, because he felt a little left out after yesterday’s field trip.  We went to Hoffman’s Dairy Farm, which didn’t look terribly impressive from my rainy passenger seat view.  Since LuLu was sleeping, and I’d done the whole “tromping through the muddy pumpkin field in the rain” thing yesterday, I sent Daddy and Gigi off with the camera.

Little did I know the potpourri of bizarre photographs that would occupy our memory card upon their return to the car.

What the… ?!?

Is that a camel?!?!

DOH!

I have no idea what happened in those 27 minutes that I sat in the car with my sleeping child.

They did return with a few pumpkins, though.

And I don’t know if Marge or the lion made it, but they also brought some kettle corn.

We left Bizzaro World and visited my parents and my grandma, and then came home to make some dinner.

What do you guys think this is…a pizzeria?

Apparently.

I made my homemade crust, which is simply:

3/4 c. warm water

1/2 a packet of yeast

1/2 t. brown sugar

2 t. olive oil

1 t. salt

2 c. whole wheat pastry flour

I mixed the water, yeast and brown sugar and let it sit for 10 minutes.  I added the oil and salt, threw it in my Kitchen Aid with the dough hook and then let it do the work while I added the flour.  I let it knead for about 7 minutes and then placed the dough in a oiled bowl and let it rise in a warm place for an hour.

I preheated the oven to 425 and made everybody their favorite.

Daddy’s had vegetarian refried beans, crumbled Trader Joe’s Meatless Meatballs, organic cheddar, taco sauce, organic sour cream, homemade guacamole and crumbled all natural corn chips.

The girls’ had Trader Joe’s organic pizza sauce, organic mozarella and pineapple chunks.

And of course, I had to be all difficult.

I topped an Ezekiel pita with the Trader Joe’s organic pizza sauce, some homemade tofu ricotta, and some onions, red peppers and mushrooms that I sauteed in a little tamari and oregano.

On the side I had a salad topped with Bragg’s Liquid Aminos.

I actually ate only half the pizza and am saving the other half for lunch tomorrow.  That leaves me more room for leftover kettle corn, right?

  10. The ‘do is lookin FOINE, Mama! I have an unjust amount of grays myself, mostly sprouting out of the crown of my head, and I used to be better about dying them away, but these days I’m making like that giraffe (or is it the camel?) with the proverbial head-in-the-sand trick: if I can’t see ‘em, they aren’t there (aka I try to stay away from brightly lit bathroom mirrors).

Welcome to our corner of the blogosphere, Mama Pea. xo <3

i noticed you do a fruit + grain thang for breakfast — do you still juice or do all fruit til lunch? i went mostly raw and vegan after reading raw food detox diet and i’m starting to think the fruit-only-alone-for-bfast isn’t gonna work for me. how do you feel about it?
